Please help me refurnish my LR!
Comments (21)Have you seen deco chairs like that in person? They are really massive in scale. They would tend to overpower anything but a very bulky sofa. I think you can use a lighter scaled pair of chairs, especially if one of them has a small side table next to it. Go too large and you will start to cut off the DR. For end tables I would look at bedside chests and tables if you want something more solid. You used to be able to find simple solid cubes but I haven't seen many lately. Ethan Allen Chest: Here is my LR/DR which is quite large at 25 x 16 x 10 ceiling, and most of the seating is not massive in scale: the sofa is long at 96", My lamps are the same era as yours, and I think mine could have larger shades really. They did tend to go pretty big back then. The decor is not closely coordinated because I tend to add things I like as I go along....See MoreNew LR pillows are not working for me (pics)
Comments (44)The "tone-on-tone" isn't going to happen for about 8-10 yrs. I plan on changing out all the draperies to browns/creams and repainting all the walls a beige color. The red pillows are a temporary fix until I get the rug replaced. I ordered a 9x12 seagrass today and am hoping that it will add the needed texture in the room. I've refocused my energy on decorating the Princess Suite and ran into the exact same rug problem. The rug in there is similar to the LR and my MIL bought us an expensive Horchow bedding set a couple of years back that clashes with the rug. This time, I decided to work around the bedroom rug and ordered new bedding in in blue/cream jacobean bird print that worked off of the rug. The bedding just arrived and I really like it. I'll need help decorating my walls in that room so I will post pics under a new thread....See MoreMy 'botanical print' LR, before and after pics
Comments (14)I love the transformation, and I appreciate the fact you kept many elements and updated what you were tired of. The mix of painted and wood, dark and light is so inviting and warm. I love your room....See MoreLR is painted - pillows & tablecloth ?s.
Comments (34)Oakley - The carpet is somewhat washed out in these photos. Buying an area rug sounds like a good place to start. But then I think how the carpet will still boss around the area rug choice. I'm having a hard time picking pillow fabrics and adding another (main) pattern to the room I don't think will make that easier. I could go with something solid - darker brown maybe. The other issue is back when I was looking for area rugs, I went to every place that carried rugs in a 2 hour radius around where I live and it was slim pickins. IâÂÂve ordered online before but for something this size I donâÂÂt think thatâÂÂs a great idea. I'm not against an area rug, I just don't know that it's going to be any easier for me....See MoreRelated Professionals
