What a gorgeous home! A Craftsman Bungalow with 2 front facing gables and 1 side facing gable. I suggest this design for the fireplace. Holds to the style, yet works in the updated room. Research the two brothers, Charles Sumner Greene and Henry Mather Greene who designed the bungalow on the West coast in the early 1900’s. My guess is they are the original architects of this style and maybe designed your house. Who knows?

Yes, the garage will bring the right side at least as far the left wing, probably farther. I think that left bedroom is probably about 1.5 cars wide, so the garage will be wider. We haven't decided on front or side garage doors but I'm sure my husband would rather have side and I'm fine with that. He also wanted to move the door to the center, but we ended up moving so many windows and walls around that he eventually decided it was too much work and decided to let it stay. It would have been nice for the flow inside to move it, and maybe one day, but probably not. I think if the arches go that it will also make the view from the house better/let in more light. They aren't exactly well done to begin with...

It looks like two of the arches have steps. The arch with the door looks like it is missing a lightbulb on the opposite side to the stair light that is lit up (first photo). If you like the walls' beige color, you could emphasize the arches by painting one side or the other or just the interior with one shade lighter beige. I don't think they actually need any emphasis, but if you are planning to repaint the walls anyway, this would be a good time to map out which walls will be which color.

Normally I like things that are different and sort of odd. But I just can't come up with anything for this or the reasoning behind it when nothing around goes with it. Challenge 1 - find out if there are support posts, electrical, plumbing, ducting or something running though it. That will immediately influence what you may be able to do. Challenge 2 - Do you have any extra floor tile in case you can remove it or downsize it? Challenge 3- Getting enough fingers and toes crossed that this can be removed. If the house and location are perfect enough, then figuring this out may be eased by that fact. Maybe it can be deconstructed to just 2 posts ( if needed ) , less of a foot print, no arch or header between the 2. Then you could set your dining room table and maybe build a sideboard or bar in between the columns. See if you can find house plans from when it was built. Then find someone to strip off all the stone and start knocking holes into it. Good luck! I would love to see the results of this!
