Nanny2a - If I'm understanding what you wrote the bottom of my lamp shade should be like 20" in diameter? That sounds and looks huge? Did I do that right? I measured from the bottom to the bottom of the socket base and got 22". Hmmm.. Threed - Oh no I wouldn't light them. They don't fit anyhow. I'll have to head to a lamp store with the lamp in hand. Chloe - I don't know that the tea lights would look right. I don't think I even have any to try right now though. Trailrunner - Thank you for those sites! The candle covers sound way better than the folded paper idea. ha I like the look of the candle cover things. What do you put on the top part? Or nothing because it's covered? Here's the ebay lamp I was talking about. I emailed the seller asking about the height of the shade. The bottom of it is 17" the top is 13". Lamp height is 35" I bought this shade just to get an idea. This is made so that you don't have to use a harp so I think it sits too low and it's not wide/big enough. This shade is 14" at the bottom, 10" top and height is 9.25". So I'm thinking I need one similar to the size of the ebay one? I'm going to try and find some lamp stores this week. Hopefully someone can help me and what I need is all right there.

yayagal - you will have to let me know how you like the lamp. I am still considering it, altho, I think I'd prefer a ceramic lamp. This search has been very frustrating and way too time consuming. I was in Target today to pick up a few things and took a quick look at lamps. I came home with what I think is a good size and shape, but I am not crazy about the color. It is a mustard color, despite what it looks like in the pictures I am attaching. Any thoughts on this lamp? BTW, neither of the shades I used in the pictures are exactly right. Both are shades from other lamps here at home. with flash -- the color is showing a little brighter than IRL, but it is a mustard color without the flash -- if the color IRL was more like this, I could live with it, but it's not My favorite is still the 4th one I posted yesterday at 19:06, but it's been years since I found it on line and still can't find it anywhere.

I'm back from the shade store and yes, friends, I've gone completely overboard!! I have yet another shade to consider. This time I brought home several shades to find the right color. Now, I think I have the right color, but the shape is new, believe it or not!! It's a little difficult to describe. Basically it's a rectangle with a bell shape. The shorter sides flare out in a soft curve. I have 4 pics to share, in order to hopefully show the true shape of the shade. Picture #1 Picture #2 (from the side to show the outward curve on the short side) Picture #3 (a complete side view) Picture #4 I think I like how the rectangle shape of the shade works with the rectangle of the piano. So, if anyone is still interested in this saga, which now has really turned into a saga, what do you think of the latest choice? Thanks to all who have responded. I really do appreciate your input.

Thanks for all the feedback. I decided to wait until Jan when my new couch/chairs arrive to decide what to do about the lamps. Lilylore -- my DH loves the idea of replacing the glass on the end tables and sofa table with wood. They are Ethan Allen tables, 20 years old, but in excellent condition. Sounds like a great project for him!
