So far I have had better success with my herbs surviving a freeze better than I have had perennials survive it. Soapwort, mexican tea, dill, bronze fennel, virginia stock, rosemary, self heal, have all germinated and looking good. My stock is already growing its first set of true leaves and it germinated before a freeze not a frost moved in. Take some soapwort to this class with you. I have never grown it before now but from all that I have read this little plant is a very useful plant. It blooms all summer and the leaves you can use to even wash your hair, I even think I read somewhere that a few seeds can wash a couple loads of clothes.

I grew Ramona for several years and it's gorgeous; in fact, I love it so much that when I moved out here I spent two years looking for a source. The new one I have here in the NW is planted on the west side of our house; it gets afternoon sun (and heat). I have the roots well mulched to keep them cool but I'm going to be curious about how it does (especially the color of the flowers) in hot afternoon sun. I have it planted near a climbing rose ('Polka') so the two can twine together. I see from comments I may have made a mistake with that but time will tell. The one I had in Indiana was planted on the north side of an old milkhouse that I trained around the corner to grow on the east side of the building. It got sun to about noon every day, then full afternoon shade, and was incredible -- very full and about the height of the eaves (8' or so). Covered with blooms (I can send you a photo if you're interested). Interesting what has been said about pruning. I never cut in back in the 15+ years I had it but I wonder if the winter cold did enough pruning that my lack of attention didn't affect it adversely. Nice Mother's Day presents! Enjoy!!

Thank you everyone for the nice comments. Celeste and Nancy, I got Westbourne Piggy Pen straight from the hybridizer, Mary Jane Meadows. She is still not a very well known hybridizer but she has some great daylilies. They grow like crazy here and even though I don't have a lot of hers yet, I haven't found one that I don't like or one that does not do well here. She also sells on the Lily Auction from time to time under the seller name Bubbles. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with her daylilies. Dianne

FLSeaDog, ideally, the temperature should be adjusted precisely for each person. However, realistically, no. Hopefully all the preferred bathing temps fall within about a 10°F range ... so perhaps adjusting the unit between a lower bathing temp (perhaps 108°F to 110°F) and a higher household use temp (120°F to 125°F) would be a workable compromise. Ten to 17°F difference doesn't seem like much, but for a tankless that must heat a flowing volume of water on-the-fly, it can be enough to justify. Of course, frequent adjustment certainly can be an inconvenience to the point of being unworkable if the unit isn't easily accessible. This is where remote controls come in handy. My unit is in a broom closet in my laundry room. I leave it set on 104°F as the "normal" setting, raising it as needed for washing clothes (open the closet, punch a button a few times, it automatically drops back down after 30 mins) ... or sometimes lowering it a little for a cooler shower in the summer heat. I don't raise it for dishes, as my dishwasher has built-in water heating. Maybe I've become accustomed to my tankless and using it efficiently to the point of unconscious habit ... but I have no complaints. I have to wonder if the folks having trouble just are unwilling to modify their usage habits accordingly, or if there's something wrong with their installs, or the units involved just don't work very well.
