Are you installing crown moldings and/or having window treatments? If so, go with the 8’ sliders and no transom.

What do the other windows in the house have, transoms or no? Will they go up to 8'? The shorter sliding door will generally be lighter and operate smoother.

How much sun will come come through? Is this installation where your TV is? If it's southern face of the house take your time on your decision there will be a lot of light and heat coming in and unfortunately you might end up with blinds or a curtain which will block the light you are desiring.
