I've not used Kitty Gray, but now I want to because it's such a cute name and I love the idea of a house painted Kitty Gray LOL. Actually I do try hard not to let the names of the colors influence me too much but sometimes I just can't help myself! ETA - how big are these "swatches"? The bigger the better - if you can find a few large 4 x 8 pieces of old panelling that someone is getting rid of, that would be ideal. If you have any left over shingles -Ive taken those and my paint samples somewhere away from the house just to get a sense of how the two colors interact without the distraction of the color the house is currently painted - similar idea as the interior design sample board, only using your exterior materials. Just look at the colors every which way, under different lighting conditions and maybe one will start to look like the better choice. Or not!

Thank you Debbie! I know! It's a cute name isn't it? It's really a pretty color in person - gray with green in it, and reminds me of a house color one might see on a historical house or a Williamsburg paint color. Thanks for the advice, too, about the panels and such. Unfortunately I didn't figure out to paint on poster board or shingles before I already painted on the siding, but it's fine and I have shown it to my painter. I am not painting any more, as I have narrowed in on Grizzle Gray or Kitty Gray - both lovely colors. For reference here is my house with the old color on it.:

No, surprisingly we don’t have approved colors for the neighborhood. All the houses are custom. Most of my neighbors have 3 materials on their facade- some combo of stone, brick , shake; or brick , stucco, stone, etc. other 3 sides are usually all brick. For whatever reason my house is just all flat brick !

Actually its the contrast with the blue of the blue-gray roof which is throwing it into the realm of "pink". Too bad. Browner grays and/or earthier colorsfor roof/trim - would have given it a whole different, more harmonious context. Actually what might help, without having to paint brick, is to switch out all the white and black for warm brick-friendly grays. Looks like youve got some variegation in the brick, might help to look at a closeup of that and see what color relationships you have there.

I would want to harmon ize with whatever they have on the other side, and also lessen the disconnect between the bright yellow siding and the brick. Maybe the brick isnt "too dark" so much as the yellow is too bright and high-contrast? If the siding can be painted, maybe look at earthier soft gold-brownss that harmonize better with brick colors.

Yeah, that yellow is a misfit with your home. And I also agree with changing the color of the shakes in the gable, or maybe even removing the shakes to put siding there. (It is typically advised to have no more than 2 different types of surface on a home, and those shingles make 3 for you. That we can see, anyway.)

The brick looks good. I’d pick a soft cream color for the siding but make sure it isn’t yellowish.

@Jennifer Hogan, I understand where you're coming from, and I know it's not for everyone, but I actually like the levels of pink combo - neon with dusty, or icy pink with red, etc

And I'm sorry, none of the pictures you shared bear any resemblance to my inspo, definitely no floral bedspreads, I like block colours, stripes or textural patterns.

Can you post close up of brick - I would take a dark or mid-tone from that for your siding. Blue or other contrasty color chops it up too much visually. You have all the variation you need with the different textures i.e. brick, wood siding, etc. Reserve accent color for trim, windows, doors - which btw I think could be white as there is white in your brick pattern. Id make it a softer, earthier white though. Paint the garage door too - with it and the trim around it being the same color - the current almond color doesnt relate to any other color on the house.

I assume those are white vinyl windows so those and the brick are fixed elements. If so I would stick with white trim and get a warmer neutral color for the siding- roycroft grey from sw could be nice.

A nice gray would be a good color for the house. Whats on there is too blue. I too, am confused as to how you get in and out of that house. Looks like someone removed the front door at some time or another??? If so, can it be put back. The house needs a front door, and it should be in that front entry area, probably right where it was originally.

I think your house already has immense appeal, and agree that the dark bronze (or any dark) is the way to go with your windows+ trim (should be same- skinny trim not worth emphasizing imho). Re the landscaping, that IMHO is just a matter of taste - I myself like the lush overgrown look while others prefer very manicured. The main concern of course is that branches not be touching or too close to the house so as to not trap moisture or be pathway for insects and other critters.

The azaleas are fabulous. Gorgeous. Wonderful. They can be pruned. If you absolutely want to remove them, transplant them somewhere. If I thought you lived near me, I'd rush on over and dig them up for you.

Thank you, all! So it sounds like the consensus is bronze windows and trim, no window grids.

Do I keep the gutters/ soffits white? And should we keep or remove the shutters?

I like doors/windows/trim all the same color - otherwise looks too chopped up visually.

A skylight and tropical plants that like humidity might be nice. Well it's a thought!

If you’re going to remodel the whole room, I would just leave it unless the paint is so dirty you can’t stand it. I also have very high ceilings in my house, and in my small powder room (10 feet). I will be remodeling it using wainscoting with wallpaper above it AND on the ceiling to try to “bring it down”visually.

If you’re up for a weekend project, then try using one color below and a darker color above and see how that feels.

How are you applying the paint? I have similar set, was thinking I was limited to spray paint.

Have been doing some reading about how to paint the wicker. We'll be buying a paint sprayer.

I think your cabinets are beautiful, but the result is probably due to the original color/variety of the wood.

I'd go to a cabinet maker and ask if he can provide new doors finished to match the rest of the cabinetry. Maybe not, but might be worth a try.

Agree that a skilled finisher should be able to modify colors/tones to a certain extent .... while still leaving plenty of variation as you would expect with natural wood. Other instances where this might be done incl. tweaking color of new floor boards to blend into old 100 yr old wood floor.

Good example imho of seller wasting time and money following a fad and trying to anticipate whims of a buyer... and then the buyer doesnt like it. There have been a few buyers here trying to undo their painted brick exterior as well.... which unfortunately is pretty much a lost cause.

OP - first I would try to see if it scratches or sands off easily. With any luck they did a poor prep job and it wouldnt be too difficult to remove. If there is a good layer of clear finish under the paint then youre in luck - should be able to sand and get to good wood underneath. If paint has gotten into pores of the wood then its more of a PITA to remove. If you do resort to stripper, do a very thorough painstaking job completely masking off stair treads so stripper cant possibly drip on it. Be sure to use good quality painters masking tape that forms a good tight seal. And then just take it very slow in small sections, being careful not to do dumb things like getting stripper on your shoe and tracking it around the house (been there, done that LOL).

Agreed, ship lap might be worse. There's no ship lap or barn door anywhere, so I may have dodged a bullet there.

Part of the time, it is realtors that advise the seller to do this stuff.
