I would go to a showroom to see exactly how much light is blocked and how the shades can be positioned and how they stack when fully open.

I have Hunter Douglas shades and I wouldn't want room darkening in my living areas. I have the opaque light filtering versions, in their standard white color, and those work well to keep the FL sun/heat out.

My parents used to have HD shades with the two materials option and they didn't love them. If you like to open the shades completely at certain times of day, you end up with twice the material to stack at the top and it blocks part of the window. The shades were also prone to issues with the pulls/string due to the added weight of the second material.

The best thing I did in the new house was to power and automate the blinds. I use the HD app and a schedule to close/open the blinds based on the sun. West facing public rooms open automatically at 7 am and then close at 2 pm as the sun starts to come into those rooms. Love not having to go around the house opening and closing blinds!
