May already?! @2rickies we have the same exact fridge and my cabinet guys also said that it has enough room to vent but I definitely plan to double check. We are supposedly 2-3 weeks away from the finish line. I’ll believe it when I get the green light to book the moving truck. Our builder found some “forgotten invoices” that pushed us waaaaay over budget so my husband has been dealing with him all week. Fun times!

I went by to make sure our house was still safe from water... it's been raining like crazy here. Aaaaaand, we have power‼️ I kinda wish I'd gone darker on the wall color, it looks like the White Flour trim in some rooms, but oh well. 🤞🏽 Hopefully my photos attach 🤞🏽

Haha worthy I also wish I could operate the heavy equipment, but it’s probably for the best that I can’t… I think we spent just under $40k to build our gravel driveway last year, it’s approx 800 ft long and winding uphill through forest. The cost of septic was pretty shocking, with clay subsoil we needed to bring in something like 20 loads of sand if memory serves… yikes.

I am looking forward to soon continuing our ‘terraforming mars’ project because we need to finish all the grading around the house which is built into the hill.

Question for you Kelly M - what is the best way to haul big rocks and boulders over to the house to position for landscaping? We have many big rocks around our property but the distance to retrieve them is far, and they are heavy. We were thinking to ask our earth guy to ‘grab’ them and bring them over so we can build a couple retaining walls/rock gardens against the house. We don’t want the huge machinery driving all over the land compacting it and tearing it up, plus they are very slow so for instance driving to the bottom of our hill to get those rocks might be a slow endeavour.

I must say, the earth work has been one of the most confusing parts of our build because it’s so hard to wrap your mind around unless you are there in person. I have a 3D model of the house so it’s pretty easy to see and understand exactly how everything will be for construction, but when it comes to the complex topography it is almost impossible to accurately do the landscape design remotely from home. The first challenge is hauling rocks closer to the house, the second is carefully positioning them. We also want to build another retaining wall (only ~ 1ft tall) with small dry stacked rocks for the garden area, I thought we might as well get the guy to haul some over and pile nearby for us so we don’t have to manually fetch them which sounds quite tedious.

What exactly did they install? Just the carpet? Or the light wood AND the carpet? Why the metal between the two woods? who put THAT there?

Who let three months go by.........with no pic from mom as I assume you are in a miles and miles away situation?

Not that they need to but they come just close enough to lining up with the skylites to make them look like a swing and a miss as well. Symmetry is overrated but all of this looks like it was not planned or laid out well. Or like I already said a swing and a miss.

If this is not moved, trim that bridges the gap and goes from window to window may make it less noticeable, treating all three windows like one unit.

What is the dimension of overhang? Which looks too deep and also looks unsupported!!

If it's 12" and no more? Do as above......otherwise, take more and cut the whole thing back.

Call them back to do as above.

Was all the trim in place when they came for the template?

What's with this?

It’s was out a bit prior but it’s hard because the actual flooring isn’t in and our fridge was leveled with the tiles. They told me they’ll level it once the floors come.

"where I assume they’d put the handle."

Assuming was/is the whole problem here.

......"they" don't decide where the pulls go. YOU tell them where they go. If you need help, tell us.

Leave them nothing else to screw up. It's a drill in their hands : ( and drill nothing on the pantry doors until all is decided /resolved.

@ Rebunky ....unless my eye lies? That missing fridge panel is 3/4 : )Look bottom of the cad you clipped.

yes, we talked about this and he said we could put a panel here so it doesn't come out like your picture with the gray counter and wood cabinet. I said it looks better if it comes out not connects fully. I wish he had any knowledge about putting a darn panel next to the fridge. If he put a panel next to the pantry there would have been an awkward gap as well. I said do it just like yours in the showroom, coming out is fine. But here we are..

Yesterday I almost lost my son to an anaphylactic reaction at one of our safest places to eat. I need the kitchen done already and just want the kitchen done and functional. If the pantry will not open they will need to fix and if swapping the sides works (including roll outs coming out fully), good, if not they'll have to put and filler all on their dime.

i think there is a yellow undertone.....problem becomes the counter then reads peach and the slight yellow is more so w the counter tone. I actually like the one with the gray boundary around the edge. with your hardware and a warm gray grout I think that would be a nice detail and the white doesnt seem to read yellow in that tile. what we see on our screen may not be the impression in your space.

Conestoga is one of the largest cabinet component manufacturers in the US. They supply smaller manufacturers. Get a quote from a local supplier who handles the product you want. Give this to the lumber yard guy with the instructions to beat it or you'll have the other contractor do the cabinets. His choice. He signed the agreement to supply a product. He has to perform, or he is not honoring the contract.

If it’s not too late, have them fix it. It will bug you/your parents every time you look at it. Our contractor installed our moulding the wide direction instead of narrow, and it bugs me every time I look at it - it doesn’t look “bad” but it’s not what I would have wanted had he asked (and had I known better to tell him ahead of time). He was an A$$ and we just wanted him out of our house…

Baseboards before finished floor is just pure hillbilly with the exception of carpet.

If you'd like your tile to tent, grout right up to your baseboards. Awful.

Here is my 75" Samsung Frame TV from 2022. Do they even make an 80"?

I also added an aftermarket picture frame, which adds a few inches in all directions.

We have an even larger TV in a media/bonus room, so I wanted this one to look less TV-like. No sound bar on this one and we just use the built-in speakers. My DH does complain about the picture quality once in a while, but I tell him to go watch the bigger TV, with higher quality picture, that he picked out for the other room!

So the new boards are parallel to the old boards but the tongue and groove are opposite? This happens all the time and should be invisible. If they installed it 90° I would push back to the contractor.

Yes, the new are parallel to the old with tongue and groove on opposite side. The hand-scrape is heavier than existing, but it’s a different crew and I’m trying very hard to be reasonable with my expectations. The overall look (scrape and stain) of the new is more bold. The hand-scraping is heavier and created vertical stripes that the existing doesn’t have, but I’m hopeful it will soften or I’ll get used to it. The stain is a mixture of 1 part special walnut and 2 parts weathered oak that was left from original install. It looks different as well. Sounds like maybe I need to give it time. I’ll get some pictures tomorrow in the daylight. Thank you both for your input.

There is NO waterproofing on the walls. None at all. Ditra on the floor is an uncoupling membrane, not a waterproofing membrane. Post additional pictures. But this guy does not seem to have a clue.

I’m not a tile contractor but there are two kinds of permabase. The regular is water resistant. The product itself is not affected by water but the water can pass through. It would need a waterproofing product applied to keep water from wicking through into your walls. There is also a permabase wp that is waterproof but you don’t appear to have that. He may have done plastic behind the permabase which is the old fashioned way of waterproofing. Ditra is not for shower floors because it can’t wrap up the wall. You also will have no manufacturer warranty because it’s from several manufacturers. But you’ve been told it’s fine by the contractor.

I’m in the midst of purchasing new appliances including a 36” range. In my research I saw Wolf has noted the chipping and grazing issues in its specs:

“Porcelain is made from natural products and, therefore, can chip or develop fine lines and cracks due to the expansion and contraction that occurs as oven temperature fluctuates. This can result in cosmetic imperfections, such as a cloudy, dull or scratched appearance. Cosmetic imperfections may be more visible in a colored oven cavity.”

https://www.subzero-wolf.com/wolf/ranges/gas-range/36-inch-gas-range-6-burners

The fact that Wolf is advertising a known problem instead of fixing it is mind boggling.

Agree that what's black now should be white. But maybe paint the wood black to draw the eye to the front door below. Perhaps someone here can illustrate that.

This color blocking of gables in black and white is a trend in my area as well, and I just can't get on board. It looks like multiple different dwellings stitched together, as @chispa said.

Is your entryway finished? Or is there more to be added there? If so and you really want wood accents, maybe do columns (if you have them) in wood. Or the soffit of your entry. Maybe flower boxes if you like those and plan to do them.

But I would absolutely ditch the black and paint everything the same color. It would be much more cohesive and less trendy (and this is not a good trend IMO).

This massive island in the living room thing does not work. The kitchen was meant to be a single wall kitchen, without that continent. It compromises the living space.

What is the island for?

If it is mostly for storage, I would probably get a piece of furniture to go there instead. Shorter than countertop height so it will feel more like a console behind the sofa. And could be moved if needed.

marmiegard_z7b

It is not an island if you are backing a piece of furniture up against it. And you would use it for food prep when the sofa is right against it. Why not a free-standing piece of furniture?

So I guess I don’t understand what you are trying to accomplish and how it got manifested as “ island” and a fixed feature as well.

Maybe give some more insights into your design goals here.

"This is 100% a fabrication issue, not a manufacturer's issue."

Minardi:

You can't make such a statement from internet pictures. The pits could very well have arrived in the slabs from the manufacturer and the fabricator missed or ignored them. It's kind of moot though because once you touch a slab you own it, according to the manufacturers.

3 FAILED fabrication attempts does say that the issue is the fabricator. Does the money trail go through the kitchen designer or general contractor? That’s a pressure point. If paid direct, dispute the charges.

@2rickies Here are a few shots...yes, now and then we get a water marl, small, like nickle sized. It is sealed with a high quality sealer, but I guess it needs another coat. Nothing has been permanent, and the two I have had were hard to find... But sealing is obviously imperative. I love them so much, it is worth it.

Pretty sure you don't NEED to have the slab backsplash at 2cm. I THINK you just need to make sure your walls are prepped accordingly (and you lose a little counter space), but lots of pros on here to confirm or not.
