You could always do 2 large pendants and that way it may not impede your view toward the room that is beyond the island . We’ve got a 9-ft island and are using 2 fairly large pendants. The electrical plan called for 3, but hubby is quite tall and I didn’t want him to be constantly trying to look around the center pendant at the TV in the living room. As for style, it would depend on the overall style of your home, and any other fixtures you may already have in place.

I suggest you choose black pendant lights to match the marine blue cabinets and wooden island countertop, which will be more coordinated. Considering that you want to create a soft lighting atmosphere over the island, you can choose pendant lights with shades to avoid shining too much in the line of vision. Additionally, to coordinate with the other white lights in your room, you can choose black pendant lights with white interiors or white glass shades underneath. This not only provides sufficient lighting but also maintains the overall style of your room. I hope this is helpful! Professional home lighting offers you more choices.

I just ordered and sent back a pallet of Kingston White because it looked pink when we unboxed it. It was weird because the samples did not seem pink at all. I almost went with Emser’s Raku white, but it was just a little off from the color I needed. Such a beautiful, soft color. It’s white without being stark (or pink!). Emser will send you a sample if you don’t have a nearby showroom. I believe Home Depot carries it as well.

I think the bigger risk is to have a "not my problem" mentality.

Because I was not a Communist . . .

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house….

Agree - but is this about coveting what your neighbor has or is it about standing up against oppression?

  • Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others
  • Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause.
  • Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.
  • A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

How did Jesus love us? He loved us enough to die on the cross for us. Most of us are not that good, but that is the commandment. That we are willing to sacrifice for our neighbors.

I’ve been in a bit of a quandary myself with Taj (look at my post history), but it’s in a bathroom so there’s no tile sitting right next to it like your backsplash… Anyway, I thought I’d show you what I chose for the nearby shower walls in case you want to give it some consideration. Here is a photo of the mosaic pickets, but they come in a straight stack pattern too. I went with the pearl color. They look quite different (darker) on the Daltile site than in person in natural lighting, as you can see from the photo. They aren't gray at all - more of an off white or very light beige. Your nearest Daltile showroom should have samples you can see, or you can order them and have shipped to your home.

Andrea, your splash and grout are fantastic with your counters and cabinets. Your kitchen should be an example for anyone searching on how to bridge off whites in a kitchen. really beautiful.

I like the lightest color one. I actually just bought some of Daltile pickets in a ‘pearl’ color for a shower wall. She might take a look at that color also. It’s very light also, and each tile is a slightly different color. There are 3 different shapes offered.

I would look at subway tile in the white that blends with the countertop, and consider either horizontal or vertical for backsplash. Keep it simple and let the countertop be the star since it already has the color and movement to be the boss.

I would never select the tiles you're considering.

I'd even pause at using the Arabesque shape

Instead I would consider a mosaic tile in 12" x12" sheets
