Your drapery installation requires three brackets for support. The diameter of the rod will likely not make much difference since the span of the support will not be very long. However, since this is a sliding door, you must decide if you want your panels to stack clear of the opening. That may lengthen the rod.

They do stack clear so the weight is at the ends. We have a shade that we pull down at night. My only concern is whether 1 1/4" looks too skimpy. As of now, we plan to go with these rods.

The rod on this window is 2 1/2" . I don't think what you are looking at will be proportional. Yes, good rods are expensive.

Yes, that's thick.

I did see this in 1 1/4" for under $100. It screws together instead of telescoping.

Da Bird! Mine love it! Don't let him catch it because he'll "kill" it immediately. I put tape around the swivel because I was afraid that it could catch a claw and tear it out.

We use Feliway and it does help with anxious cats. The other thing is - have they checked his blood for allergies? I had a cat that threw up every time she ate. We tested allergies before anything else because she was so young. It turned out she was allergic to sugar beets, corn, duck, and cow milk. And dust. Go figure. I have had cats with thyroid issues too - but wonder about allergies.

It's too bad you don't have many options as to vets. When our elderly little kitty's health began to fail, we were fortunate to have an emergency vet in town that's open 24/7, and a cat hospital just down the street - one of the vets was a specialist in geriatric and palliative care. Such a vet might know more about what may be going on with your guy.

If you add an egg, you're getting more into buckle territory.

If you like your berries sweetened, use a biscuit-type shortcake. If you don't sugar the berries, use a sponge or other cake-like base.

My understanding is that it made with short fats such as butter or lard and that is why it is called a short cake. Butter is usually cut into the flour such as is done when making a biscuit, thus, it is basically a biscuit, but usually sweeter than a biscuit.

Strawberries and cake can be any kind of cake that you want, but it may not be shortcake. People call anything with berries and cream a short cake, whether it really is, or not.

I dont much care for the real short cake version of it.

Thank you. :) I know that a big part of triggering his appetite is whether or not the food is eye candy for him. He loves to see color on his plate and lots of food choices with a meal.... and he loves all forms of comfort food. Yesterday he said his "low sauce light" was on, and he wanted spaghetti w/ sauce, Italian hot sausage, and a garden salad. I'm thrilled that he's eating like this. :)

Since he loves milkshakes, try Orgain protein shakes for between meals. My son drank them last summer. They are whey protein, not soy, and also have twenty vitamins and minerals. He liked the chocolate fudge. Sold on A-zon and at Target.

“Scrambling to put together“ our wardrobes is right, RubyClaire. In another month there won’t be any decent swimsuits left!

Funky, the same thing happened to me—-with a Banana Republic order. I think the mistake was FedEx’s fault as they still had our old address on file instead of looking at the label. We haven’t lived there for four and a half years! The company rectified it, though getting the item took another couple of weeks. And I ended up returning it as it was a shapeless unlined cotton knit jacket that I knew would look tired within a few wears.

My skirt arrived from RTR today and I LOVE it! It’s a good fabric, thin but lined with black so if any of the underside of the wrap skirt shows it looks intentional. The pattern is like a larger version of a man’s tie or ascot. Very different from my usual style and I think it looks good with the big tortoiseshell earrings and bangle bracelet. I am wearing it with brown boots and can easily wear it with black ones.

From the side you can see the wrap— it’s a true wrap skirt with no closure except ties, but

they are sewn in the right places.

adding… Sue just saw that your blazer arrived and you love it. it looks like you could wearnit with anything— dress, slacks, shorts.

And a steal!

LoneJack, did the 3/8 make it?

Nope, it got trounced 58% to 42%. Now the teams will have to figure out their plan B. They both still have leases at the current stadiums until 2031.

The company I work for has the naming rights for the KC Current's new stadium.

I just saw this post and sorry I didn’t see it yesterday! I too serve as an election judge. We live in a very rural area and had a turnout of 39 voters in the precinct to which I am assigned (out of a possible 259 registered voters) yesterday. Minor issues on the ballots including school board elections and a countywide tax initiative.

For sure a very long day. I got up at 4 am to get the polls open by 6 am, closed the polls at 7 pm, and then traveled to the county courthouse to deliver the ballots, voting machine tally tapes, etc. We judges do not leave the polling place at all during the day.

My pay is $125, no meal allowance and no mileage. Every election I tell myself I’m not doing it again, but then I do.

Today is for resting. Following with interest the defeat of the Kansas City tax issue regarding the KC Chiefs and Royals stadiums.

What a presumption. My pastry is neither burnt nor tough. It's frozen unbaked. Once baked it's like freshly made and I know exactly what is in it : flour and butter. That's all.

This is what's in a well known supermarket crust:

INGREDIENTS: Wheat Flour [Wheat Flour, Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin], Palm Oil, Water, Rapeseed Oil, Concentrated Lemon Juice, Salt, Preservative (Potassium Sorbate), Inactive Dried Yeast, Flavouring, Emulsifier (Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids), Acidity Regulator (Citric Acid), Colour (Beta-Carotene), Flour Treatment Agent (Ascorbic Acid).

Making extra for the freezer is no more work than making one batch. And it means I can get a top quality fresh baked quiche or pie on the table in 40 minutes.

And I can make them cheaper too....

I cut most recipes in half so I sometimes weigh eggs for accuracy. One large egg in its shell weighs 57 grams. Without a shell, 50 grams. I'd shoot for around 200 grams for four eggs, cracked into a bowl.

I have a friend with free range chickens who gives me eggs- I give her cake :-) The eggs are random sizes as she has bantams as well as chickens and often I get a duck egg or two. I just use my judgement as to how many eggs to use- I've been baking for well over 50 years- and it all works out.

sleevendog, the only "peewee" sized eggs I"ve ever encountered have been from the Bantam sized chickens or when I get new laying hens. They lay "beginner" eggs that are sometimes pretty tiny.

I'm thinking that with flocks being destroyed due to bird flu, maybe there are some young birds just starting to lay, and those are the ones providing the peewee eggs. Or not, some people like the little Bantam chickens as pets and they still lay eggs, even if that's not why the people have them.

It is delish! It's been a few years since I've made pavlova but I'm going to make it when our wonderful Oregon strawberries are ripe in June. I top the pavlova and strawberries with whipped cream, just like shortcake.

Reporting back! Everything went off without a hitch. Except for the cookies lol. The night-before-prepped salmon is an amazing recipe. Recipe universally requested. The salad is delicious, and so pretty plated with the salmon—pistachios across both.

The Cookies. Piled high on a pedestal. Gorgeous. Martini glass filled with berries and piped almond whipped cream set on a pretty dessert plate, cookie on side of plate. Delicious.

But they baked up a bit crispier than the test batch (weather?) and crumbled when bitten into. Also, in my exuberance I sprinkled more chocolate on the top than on the test batch, and it was coming off on our hands. Luckily I had employed my trick of tucking a real-feel paper napkin inside my cloth napkins, rolling them together into the napkin ring. All around me I saw linen trousers and white dresses, chocolatey hands, and thankfully chocolate laden paper napkins carefully resting on top of the barrier cloth napkins, keeping the chocolate off the pretty outfits.

Still, everyone ate their entire cookie, right down to the crumbs. We all eyed the pedestal. We all thought about it. I ate a few more after everyone left. Not sure I'd serve them again like this. They were amazing in the test Modified Eton Mess. I would go that route next time.

@mtnrdredux_gw, they taste more pistachio than cardamom. It's a simple recipe so I think it's worth trying. They'll be a staple for me, but I'll only sprinkle pistachios on top, no chocolate.

As a recipe note, I used half the amount of chocolate called for, and instead of chips I grated a 60% dark chocolate bar. I used a heavy hand when measuring the pistachio.

I whipped the cream early in the morning, filled a disposable piping bag and stood it in a glass in the fridge. Right before serving I snipped the bag, put the tip on, and no muss, easy peasy filled the martini glasses.

Thanks for playing along everyone! Wish I could send you all a care package of Forgotten Cookies!

I started window boxes last year and will be following this! I have this irrigation set up and it helped last year, my first year. It does makes for a heavy box though.

I don't really like yellow or orange flowers either. First choice is shades of green and white, blues and purples are good too. Pink in landscaping is borderline but in a bouquet it is fine.

Same! I do pots on my deck each summer. Only whites, greens, blues, purples and the occasional pink.

In my home, I tend to only do white flowers. I can do blue hydrangeas, but otherwise only white.

Well, not until October! Dutch Wood is really in demand so they have a 12-week wait even for local projects. And they are coming up from PA to FL to put my cabinets in, so I had to wait even longer until they were able to work that into the schedule. It is well worth it because the cabinets are so, so much better AND cheaper! Esp. since we don't be back in FL after April until November anyway!

I would think that any home that sells for three-quarters of a million dollars would be a winner, or at least have some winning features. Even here on the west coast $750,000 will buy you an executive-style home. It'd likely be a large home on a small lot though.

Demand - The NAR affordability index* fell from 148 to 98 from 2021 to 2023. But, in recent months affordability has improved pretty markedly, from 91 to 106. That's largely because mortgage rates are down 1% from the October 2023 local peak. So demand is picking up not just because it is Spring but because of marginal improvements in affordability.

Supply - About 85% of all homes sold historically are existing homes. Today, on average, homeowners' mortgage rates are 3% below current mortgage rates. So many people are unwilling to sell because they would be giving up that attractive mortgages (about 70% of all homes are mortgaged). As a result, supply is very very low. And new home supply is not that helpful, because NIMBY practices make it hard to add homes where they are most in demand

Low supply, increased demand -------> higher prices.

* essentially, when the index is 100, a person earning the median income can afford to buy the median priced house. When it is 150, they can afford 1.5 houses. When it is below 100, the median earner cannot afford the median house.

Loved the exterior of the PA house! As someone who lives in the South, I am always surprised at the lower ceiling heights, even on large houses up North (generally, ofc.) It would be hard for me to go from living with 10’ ceilings to 8’ (or less…I have seen some on This Old House that are under 8’.) I didn’t care for the kitchen, and thought the checkerboard tile foyer was too cramped for that floor treatment.

I liked both the Maine loft and the NOLA house (I just love NOLA , and that part is great shopping!) The exterior of the NOLA house wasn’t my taste, but I could tweak that. Thanks for sharing!
