Maybe I should have said, ”Whoomp, ‘here’ it isn’t!” 😂
That "pant" ... doesn't fit on me!?
I knew the meaning of the French word ... said he ... panting.

Do you have an agile neighbour who might be willing to endure travelling through the crawl space occasionally to help out?
ole joyful
Ole Joyful, when the second leak happened I tried to get my neighbor to help me, it was late at night but he is a nightowl and his garage door was open with the light on. I walked over to his yard and called his name but got no answer, so called him. He came out and told me it's a good thing I didn't walk to his garage because he probably would've shot me, so I won't be asking him for help anymore. He, by-the-way told me to ask if I ever needed anything, which is why I did after not being able to physically close the water shut off in the yard.
Probably not a bad idea to have some sort of smart valve like this. I came home to a flood due a connection for the freezer water line failing. Automatically sensing this and shutting the valve would have saved a lot of cleanup.
And I may have forgotteb the pool fill running once or twice, which has left me with paranoia. Being able to check an app to see if water is flowing would be a nice perk.
When I read it, I thought of the earlier reference in a thread about ginger cookies disappearing from store shelves, and thinking about the huge contrast in issues that we hear about during daily life, I went on to consider the tragedy with sadness for possible hurt to people and regret about the damage and resulting disruption.

I heard that the Maersk Dali struck the pylon with “2 Million pounds of force — 100,000 tons” and its speed was 9 mph.
palisades, I think those concrete and steel reinforcemet ”islands” would not have helped protect the Key Bridge. The cargo ship was massive and with an enormous amount of momentum.
colleen, I saw a video of the Tasman Bridge disaster.

Will we find out that this tragedy could have been prevented? Probably.
Much of US infrastructure is obsolete. How big a tax increase will we tolerate to make the necessary repairs and provide ongoing upkeep?
"Goals" ... as in football hockey, etc.?

Hmm. I wonder why all the posts aren’t showing up for me. This is what I see.
Where’d they go? Is anyone else having this problem?

@ ole joyful - are you okay?
I'm fine, angel - and thank you for your concern, and possible offer of angel aid?
I'm just working on helping a guy, calling himself a joker, who appears planning on robbing a bank to pay his debts, to find a less risky method.
With perhaps offering some suggestions to some other readers with problems managing money to consider some potential alternatives.
Thankful that, despite a recent 50% increase in rent on this rural house, and it's still less than a nearby family pays for a smaller house, not "if" but "when", without a driver's licence at 95, I'll need to move to the city, at more than double my current rate, I'll be able to afford it for several years.

A major competitor to JoAnns, Michael’s (Arts and Crafts), has recently started an alternative to Etsy. MakerPlace - a place for artists and crafters to sell their creations.
https://www.michaels.com/makerplace
Goodness - I teach arts & crafts and have a degree in Fine Art. I also sew, and the only difference between art and craft I know is crafts are things made for use, while arts are for appreciation and entertainment - that's about it. Sewing is most decidedly a craft.
I think the 'junk' being disdained here is mainly 'kits'. Both Michael's and Joann sell basic supplies too, not just kits.
There is a ton of merchandising of craft stuff, for sure - thinking of scrapbooking, for instance, but I find a lot of the materials sold for scrapbooking to be useful for other crafts - paper punches, stamps, paper - types of adhesives too. I'm glad they have such things.
And how would you define the words 'craftsman', 'craftsmanship'? The word 'craft' encompasses a really broad spectrum of things, so I think it's a mistake to define it so narrowly.
@LoneJack Zn 6a, KC Probably because she was always tugging on it :-) If I recall correctly, that was a signal to her children watching at home that she loved them :-)
I loved the Carol Burnett Show and have wished from time to time that it was still going. She and her co-comedians were always hilarious without being crude or demeaning to anyone.
It was her way of saying hello to her grandmother, who raised her, IIRC.
Do you have an inaccessible mailbox inside your front door, so later visitors can't access earlier messages?
How about putting a pad with pen into a plastic bag, with a sign saying "Quality materials, skilfully fashioned! If you'd like to have this piece add to your decor - make me an offer! Drop it, including phone number or email address into my mailbox, please."
After a time, speak of a cutoff date, then all you have to do is accept the best offer.
Hassle-free, no?

If you post this on craiglist or anywhere else online the best thing is to be as descriptive as possible to avoid people contacting you and add key words so more people can search it.
Antique, vintage fireplace mantle, tiger wood. Add all measurements. Take a pic from the side and from the back. Let them know what kind of vehicle is needed for pickup, whether you have stairs, and whether you will or will not give any help lifting it.
My first thought was an architectural salvage place. People are restoring old houses and looking for suitable components to use.
Yep, heart. Never stops until, well...
I haven't the heart to say anything other than those who said that word above ...

Glad that, at age about 16, after 6 mos. or so of using ciggies, liking neither the taste, nor as a tot during the Dirty Thirties' depression learning frugality, the cost ... I had sense enough to quit!
Now, just under 80 years later, I think that my heart, lungs, gut, kidneys and other parts are showing the results/fruits of their gratefulness.

Elmer -- Acknowledged. It's still good PR.
It's also useful if it does even a tiny bit to make drivers think twice about for poor driving habits.
Just heard via radio, " ... 12,000 vehicles were stolen in Toronto last year ...", mainly nearly new, large ones, e. g. SUVs, also pickup trucks.
Mainly in Ontario and Quebec being close to Montreal, from which many are shipped abroad in containers.
MORE bad news for insurance companies.

Is this another instance where a useful invention is misused because its potential for causing injury/damage is not covered by law? It didn't take long for automobiles to be seen to require registration and insurance.
Evidently ATVs are like firearms, overdue for the same regulation, holding owners/users responsible under the law.

I got one the other day saying my debit card (from a local, well known bank) had been hacked and my account frozen so I should call the phone number in the text.
Sounded legit. Except I don’t have an account at that bank. 🤣
I got a message from a collection agency a few weeks ago saying that I owed a vaguely identified entity $40. and some cents.
I replied that this was news to me, please provide full details re name, places, times, reasons, etc.
A few days later, another, rather vague about creditor's name, saying please pay, they'd settle fo $8.?? less if pay within 3 days.
I replied, again asking for full particulars, saying I'd recently had a call from a lady saying that she wanted to discuss my Amazon account, and I replied that I'd never had an Amazon account.
Their most recent request that I pay the amount that I referred to earlier to Freedom Mobile Inc. and I did have an account with them several years ago but no dealings for several years and I thought our dealings were completed fully.
I'm going to reply that I asked you for full details, and all you've given me now is the name of the creditor.
Full details, please. What's the precise reason for the claimed delinquency?

When I was a kid, my mother bought me some earrings for Christmas or some occasion. She hid them. From herself. I knew that they were in dad's sock drawer, because I was putting away laundry and I saw them. Of course I couldn't admit that I knew the secret, and I never did get those earrings.
Would it have been close to aok had you put a flea into your dad's ear, maybe?
Might have moved things along a bit?

Some recent variations of Covid in this area seem to have caused more grave illness, death and long Covid and there has much increased mask wearing and some more emhasis on distancing in recent months.
But, living in the country without a car, I don't get out frequently, but am mainly reporting what I believe to be responsible news.
We are seated distancing in church, and there are more masks, but somewhat less distancing during coffee time after.

In the area I am, all OBGYN and childbirth care centers closed down with only one place to give birth while before there had been half a dozen. Overfilled and overworked doctors and nurses. It was a mess. Everything was a mess during covid.
