nwduck, I like your suggestions for armygirl, especially the new carriage lights and house numbers. Good call! And you are right about the garage looking off centered. I wonder if that hedge on the right side were eliminated, it would look better?

LB, good call on the garage door. Most painters recommend the garage door color to be the same as house color. And at first I was think the semi-transparent but I do think you are right about a solid color. And I like those color bands, really different look for a driveway.

armygirl, whatever you do on the driveway could go along the walkway to the front door as well. Do you still want to paint the door?

Those pots of yours have really filled out beautifully. Good choices in your pots! ; ) Good times we had with that! LOVE THEM! What is that super bright green plant? Do you know the name?

Did you get a liquor license yet? Food handler's license? Tsk, tsk! Those take time, especially liquor license and there is a quiz for the other license too. In the meantime get that place in order!! Lol

Where are all the pics? You know Houzzers like their pics!! Is this just a garden bar? Locals will stop by and do some Jell-O shots? How much are you willing to spend on keeping the liquor supply flowing? So many questions!

Darling room. I voted to keep the window bare but I do think it will need a roller shade at the least.

Edithsmom, no I still can't decide. I need to get a slipcover for the chair and ottoman on the desk side of the room. At that time I might just do it all at the same time. There is a window by the desk. I might have to wait until summer when I'm off. Just can't decide. I want to coordinate both sides.

Yes, can understand wanting the same treatments on both sides of the room. I will be patient. Thanks for the update.

That's almost within 75% of the dresser's width so should be perfect. Hang it 5" above the dresser's surface.

What! No cinnamon/nutmeg color?? Just kidding with you as that is my go to color for a front door right now if applicable. Lol

Have you considered an olive color? And, btw, your home is lovely.

I really like those paint colors you posted. But that will be when you paint the entire house, correct?

I must say that yellow and gray are two colors that look really good together. So much goes with gray, you know? If you went with gray for right now, I think a dark gray would look nice and a good contrast with the pale yellow house color.

It has been cleaned , its that the color combination of paint lacks contrast for my tastes. The just sort of blend together and look dull. I would like it to have a little more curb appeal...

I think your olive color suggestion for the shutters would look nice. For the door a rust color.

Is it just a cream color now? Would you be able to find that green color(darker one) in the bedding for an accent wall?

FYI, I ordered the Gardenia lamp through Houzz and it's poorly made. I went online and checked reviews and lo and behold, many people rated it poorly because of construction. Unfortunately,it is not easy to return through Houzz as I'm still waiting for directions on how to return this defective lamp and we've had multiple emails. Should have ordered through Amazon!
The bedroom is shaping up. The blue seems bright but I think once I get the pictures and some curtains, it will all come together. Thanks to all.

I think chain link would be the least expensive and have the least maintenance but it isn't very attractive. Privacy slats can be put in as well but I do not know how well they stand up over time.

Forgot to mention. If it matters, the above fence is painted pressure treated wood. Paint used had primer already in it (2 coats, 2 years ago) The Pro's may recommend otherwise. I would go with they say, for they have more experience

We have a landline with three other extensions throughout the house. We do not have a smart phone, just two regular old-fashioned cell phones.

Landline phones are important for hardwired burglar alarm systems. I personally don’t trust battery alarm systems. Satellite cable can go out on cloudy or stormy days, so they are not reliable either. Of course, things are changing and improving every year. Front door and other exterior camera systems can communicate with the homeowner and the security company.
For now, though, we will keep our land line.

Hi. I thought I better reciprocate and comment on your thread Margo. You know yours are always too fast and furious for me! lol I am on the s.l.o.w.e.r. side if you get my drift.

bubbasgma, when I got the houzz app back in the summer, I spent ages looking at photos, photos and more photos and trying to figure out the ideabooks. I finally went to "discussions" and read those for awhile before I got sucked in!!

I think maybe it's not so much the stone itself, but the lack of variation in size and flow. Right now it just looks sort of like a diagonal strip of rock through the yard with some other rock around the wonderful plant. In the Pacific NW, where Japanese gardens are a big influence, rock streams are meant to mimic nature. At the end point (which in your case would be at the left side house edge), you create what is called a "vanishing point". For example, you do a planting, anchored with a large "signature" rock at the left corner of the house. The stream begins there. Then, redo the stream bed with more of a winding look across the yard toward the right with wider/narrower areas, using a large rock (or group of three) to punctuate a slight change in volume or direction of the stream. The "stream" could end in a seeming pool around the large plant at the driveway. If you look at some Japanese gardens, and ignore the whole moss-and-plants-that-don't-grow-here bit, you'll get a sense of what I'm trying to explain!

I meant to also suggest using garden hoses as an outline on the yard when working out a redesign of the stream shapes and pool. Makes it much easier to visualize, and get a notion of how much stone you may need.

Electric. I am a tea drinker but my hubby uses it too for his coffee, a one cup drip Melitta that uses #2 coffee filters.

my daughter spent a year in england and come home extolling the virtues of an electric kettle. so, if its one mug i do it in the microwave, otherwise use the electric kettle. ours certainly does a rolling boil before it toggles off.

That is good to know. I really enjoy learning new cultures. Your absolutely right it can easily be misunderstood if you don’t get the full story. I find it refreshing how real the Aussie slang can be. It’s much more casual or informal than America but that’s OK, it’s real and it’s fun.The term going to the bathroom in America is very informal & generic. The “proper” thing to say is I’m going to or I need to use the restroom, or ladies room. It’s like toilet is a dirty word. We also still use WC on floor plans. I also agree that too much “Americanisms” are creeping in...be Australian & be proud! I came here not to see American stuff, I want to see 100 % Aussie.

I like how UK property shows use the term Utility Room. The very old places still have separate laundry (wash house) outside, most have squeezed a washer/dryer into the kitchen but the newer or bigger places have a separate Utility Room.

This seems to be a hybrid of Laundry, Mud Room or Boot Room + part Bulter's Pantry, bulk food storage or dog area too.

I think this suits Australia very well & would love to adopt the term Utility Room. It's in the Ute mate!
