Why oh why do little girls need pink rooms of any shade?

Maybe a cherry blossom color just a idea for the room .. The color not the decal

It doesn't open for ventilation, the view is pretty rotten. The cheap fix is to etch the glass.

We can custom make a shutter in any shape.

Guys, the post is three years old. Can we stop resurrecting it?

Twenty one years ago when we were decorating our nursery we found a great crib bumper in white with navy stars and gold lame moon and stars hangings. We added a navy skirted table and a rocker in blues and greens. Everyone was sure that we knew we having a boy. We knew differently. We just bought what we liked. When the crib gave way to a bed we striped the lower walls in multi colors, added a girls playing dress up border at her eye height and got multi colored floral bedding for the new twin. They suited her at the time. When she outgrew that the walls became pale blue and when she was seven a Mexican weaving went on the bed. Now she has light gray walls and a blue ceiling. Again her choices. The bedding is a Teenage Mutant Ninja comforter with Tommy Hilfiger shark sheets.

We coax our children to follow norms. Girls are not predisposed to pink and purple and to be bad at science and math. Do what your family thinks is right.

I was he youngest of three siblings and the only girl. When I was little, my folks bought for me a white canopy bed with a gauzy white coverlet with embroidered pink butterflies. Painted the walls pink, too. I HATED it! Mom so wanted a girlie-girl, but horses were my thing! Next I got a brown plaid bedspread for that canopy bed.

We consciously and unconsciously tell boys and girls to conform to gender norms from birth. There is nothing inherently wrong with pink walls, it’s just a pretty color. We talk to girls differently, and give them different clothes to wear and toys to play with. You could choose a neutral color and let her tell you what color she likes in a year or two. Or choose a delicate pink and change it if/when she tells you her preference.

Do NOT believe that you can easily paint over them when you want a change. We've had stripes and diamonds in diamonds. To paint over both required sanding of the edges of each stripe or diamond to make it flush with the adjacent wall and in the case of the stripes a serious primer to get a a uniform base color before repainting so we did not need multiple coats of the finish color.

Yes I have stripes in my family room and kitchen- they look great.

Something custom and not too expensive from etsy with a live edge would work well with the hand scraped floor.

The artwork is nice, and adds some nice color. I think the bench needs to be more substantial, with a back or try a longer console table to anchor the art, similar to the very first picture you found. I like the design of the rug, but, again, it should be wider & longer for the space.

Why not treat the media wall as one large apace and ignore the AC? Get a long low media cabinet; wall mount the TV with a swivel mount so you can see it from either end of the room and accessorize the space under the A/C. You can add a sound bar below it You large bowl would be a great start and museum wax will keep it from getting pulled off by the kiddos. There isn't a lot of space for a big coffee table. A couple of cube tables would give you storage and serve as seating for the kids or hold the popcorn and drinks for movie night.

Replace the floods with LED lamps and add a dimmer switch to control the lighting at night and save energy. You really do need to add some sort of blackout window covering to watch TV glare free during the day. Roman shades that extend beyond the window casings would do the job without being perceived as taking up space.

ADD SOME COLOR TO THE WALLS after your project is solved! :-)

Okay, I know you're considering getting rid of the media unit, but how about using as a "wall" room divider perpendicular to the wall it's currently on? You would then move the couch to the media side(could be either side, perhaps away from the windows for better viewing) and move the play area to the "blank wall" back side. Maybe paint it white, but paint the back with chalkboard paint to create a fun playroom vibe?

Seasonal allergies, cats and a dog ===> hardwood. We have four 5 by 8 area rugs and every time I vacuum one of them I fill the canister of the new vac with fur. I cannot imagine what the carpets hid for years. Now if I could do something similar for the sofa...

Oh yea, the master bath had carpet when we bought this house. Tile went down in there pretty fast!
