In case any of you ever get an itch to disassemble a hat, this was fast and easy. I didn't use standard hot glue. My hot glue is for heavy duty projects, not arts and crafts. It all appears to be pretty sturdy.
The last photo is a closeup of the seam and glue.
So very sad.
Carol, yes, she’s still around.
I am thinking about both sides of this, because there is some discussion surrounding turning my neighborhood into a historic district. There are already many historic designations within the neighborhood, but no blanket designation of the neighborhood.
As with most things, this could be good, and it could be bad. On the one hand it could stop people from doing overbuilds or hideous modifications of their houses, or from tearing something down. On the other hand their would be a great deal of trouble if you want to replace windows.
So often in this city this seems to play out that a lowly homeowner can be requested to remove and replace a brand new but non-complying basement window, but if you are a developer with enough influence, you can be granted permission to tear down an entire row of 18th c. buildings by claiming it would be a hardship to redevelop them in a historically sensitive way.
Oh she is lovely, obviously very smart and presents so well on the screen! I agree that is a very cool job. You must be so proud and happy for her!
Indeed!
Wonderful! Your daughter is very well spoken and does know her stuff. Congrats on a talented daughter.
Thank you all! I had a nice day! ❤️😎
I won't be celebrating until Friday but then I am a Birthday WEEK kind of gal!
I hope your day was filled with love and joy!
Hi, I did pick up my new wheels a little more than a week now and it has already amassed more than 500 miles even with a super busy work week. Had to spend the weekend cleaning out the garage so I could fit two vehicles in there. Boy did we have a lot of stuff in there that’s just been sitting for years taking up valuable parking space. Facebook market place worked out great for giving it all away since we are not on a street where you can just put it out on the curb. Here’s a few pics of my new ”Lady friend."
Teeda, I’m going to have a hard time choosing a color. And they go up to size 15!
😄
Pics from the refinisher’s Instagram. I figured the table could be helped but never dreamed it could look like this.
We had a long-planned trip to Kentucky and then to Ohio to see some of DH’s childhood friends before we realized it was the week of the eclipse. We really got lucky and saw the total eclipse in a small town that was celebrating big. As science geeks it was really neat to see and observe what happened around us. The town set off a few fireworks in the distance when it got completely dark.
This was my best photo with a filter i ordered especially for my phone. I didn’t take many, we just observed and yes, we saw the diamond ring effect. DH had a welder’s mask which was cool to use too.
We were right in the path and got 100% coverage. There were big watch parties in several towns and cities, and it was a really festive atmosphere. The community of Hartland, just north of me, is usually home to about 1,000 people but yesterday they had huge crowds and even a news crew from the Weather Channel. People from all over the world - - I saw there were long line ups at the border on Sunday/Monday.
I was working but went outside to watch with some of my coworkers. We couldn't have scripted better weather with just a few wispy clouds that only appeared for a short while. I took this picture of our parking lot at 4:35 pm. It got dark enough that our streetlights came on.... but it was a different kind of dark. Then a few seconds later it visibly started getting light again. It was both eerie and spectacular. In the map picture I work in the area under the orange dot.
My husband and I decided at the last minute to go to Oberlin, in the path of 100% totality. We had just gotten back from Spain, so weren't sure we wanted to tackle the trip. We were so glad we did. We had gone to the 2017 total eclipse (also in 100% totality) but this experience was different, as we were in a large city square instead of my niece's suburban backyard in TN. The curtain of darkness fell with such suddenness, it was eerie. One can sympathize with those who were ignorant of the mechanics of the event, and thought it signified the end of the world. The birds went silent, dogs started barking and howling, a sudden wind came up, and the temperature dropped by about 15 degrees. Splendid and beautiful.
Oh wow, everything is gorgeous. I love, love all the drapes. Phoebe Howard is one of my favorite designers so it's no surprise I'm drooling over your rooms. Looks like a magazine spread. Enjoy!
Beautiful rooms! Perfect blend of elegant and comfortable.
Very nice! Love the new bed & chaise.
I steadfastly avoid anything that is not inspiring, uplifting, funny, or lighthearted. I require a book/movie/show that resolves itself nicely. If I wanted to feel unsettled, I could just turn on the news...
ETA, agree @teeda. Also Sherlock Holmes on LibriVox.
ETAA Also Jane Austin read by Karen Savage on Librvox. And maybe this is highjacking, but A Way with Words podcast is a great late evening listen.
I love reading all these posts. Disclosure, I am a data scientist that studies health outcomes and the effectiveness of campaigns that are meant to influence health outcomes. I was also part of the superwoman generation and have spent a lot of time supporting women's rights and other forms of civil rights and equality movements.
I see all the comments about how work is shared evenly in your households, but when couples are surveyed and time studies are done generally the workload for unpaid home related work is not nearly as even as the survey results show. When we have couples that earn close to the same amount women spend more hours on house work, take more responsibility for managing the household, spend more hours performing childcare, do more multitasking (watching the kids while doing the housework) and have less leisure time. Men spend more hours on paid work, but not enough to make up the difference.
Studies also show that female children spend more time on household chores than male children.
Why is this important? We see that young, single women earn slightly more than young, single males, but when we get married and have children women earnings drop about 4% for every child they have, while men's incomes go up by 6% when they become a father.
Men are more likely to be groomed for advancement in the workplace, will get more promotions and higher raises than women because they are viewed by their managers as being more focused on work and less distracted than women
If we want parity in the workplace it has to start at home.
Thanks to this, I just ordered some that are supposed to be delivered Sunday. We have a couple places to stay that are in the path of total eclipse, but may just stay put and see what happens in our neighborhood.
I would swear I posted on this last night, but don’t see it. I don’t think I used a trigger word, I was just saying ours came last night.
It’s supposed to start at 12:20 here. I‘m getting excited! We do have some cloud cover, but the eclipse is still going to be fun to watch. :)
ETA: It might be my imagination, but the light outside seems a bit different right now.
Heading to the beach for a late lunch: picnic … 65 and not a cloud in the sky… should have 95pct cover
I'm in CT, but didn't feel it. However we had guys on the roof rebuilding the chimney so I would have attributed anything unusual to that. My mom, who lives an hour north of me did remember feeling something once I asked.
Yes, in the Philly suburbs.
Outdated makes me think I might go the other direction. My mother's, her mother's, and maybe even another generation before. They're empty, but maybe it would be better if they were used?

Use them!
I have my mom's circa 1950 aluminum canisters in the pantry. They're used. Same with some of her pots and pans.
I have my grandmother’s Ransburg canisters, c. 1950s. I remember there being four in the set; I’m not sure how the smallest one got separated or where it is.
They’re mainly just for looks, but sometimes I’ll store non-food items in them, which I promptly forget about. I’m not a baker, so don’t have the need to store flour, sugar, etc in bulk.
They do make me happy to see every day … she was a wonderful baker. :)
I really like the wood ones you’re considering.
ETA: Meant to add — my kitchen is quite small, so I have these in a corner. They aren’t ever in the way at all, plus help hide my lamp cord!
