A wood bench could look good in your room. (Maybe a not a big one like that).

I would keep your cameras for sure but I find you have too many little objects in clusters such as the frames, the photos and the items in the tray on your desk. I would remove some of them and make combinations of large and small objects together.

These cabinets are lovely and will look stunning stained dark and with a bare cinderblock painted white, I think, will create an interesting mix of textures that will look classic and timeless. This looks like a great project! Looking forward to seeing pics as the project evolves.

There are so many variables of white. Monterrey White has a tinge of the color you will find in your stone. I recommend you check it out for kicks. As for the red door, it will look excellent, I assure you, but you've got to get the right red. Don't go for fire engine or candy apple red, rather a warm Tuscan, Spanish or Moroccan (all pretty similar in tone).

The white looks good in the shade of the porch. Be sure to paint a sunny wall as well.

What a difference! I like the window shade - it looks like a piece of artwork. And, I'm partial to blue - love the shade you chose.

Would look good if you also have a frameless glass shower. I think location is key. There should be nothing distracting on the ‘wall’ side of the tub. Don’t want to look through the tub at ground level and see ugly white baseboards. On the photo the tile has been extended to meet the floor.

Oh! Genevieve, Re your "narrow" entrance remember prints, paintings, mirrors take up little room & can be interspersed with art of the "found" kind....signage, wheels, clocks, whatever! Also adding some panelling or tongue & groove can lift even the narrowest spaces & allow different depths of paint or wallpaper to create interest. I love rug runners too that take you into the house on a wave!

What is the best lighting for a laundry room? Fluorescent is not great for being able to see stains/grubby. What colour/warmth gives the best results?

I don't have a tablecloth for the table in my formal dining room, but I use one for formal dinners.

for our everyday breakfast nook ( two or three meals a day), I tried without for few days for a more modern look in the kitchen, and within two days, the wooden table had scratches. So now, I am back to a tablecloth, and we put placemats on top to eat

I agree with laurakdesign. If the kitchen is small it breaks too much the flow with the cabinets. I have that problem at home. I bought a stainless over the range microwave but now I need to replace my white range. That was not well-thought when I bought the microwave. Now I have to buy a stainless range that will break my galley kitchen in 2. :(

Oh really? White the "new" trend? I remember when most appliances were white. You could get bisque and black, but they were special order. And stainless? Only for professional kitchens. Maybe stainless became popular when chef tv shows started and everyone wanted a kitchen just like their favorite chef, and stainless made you feel like you knew how to cook. Who knows? White is the all-time classic. If you want a sleeker look, go for a model with no handles sticking out.

I would stay with stainless just so much more versatile. As a designer I hv not had anyone ask for anything other then that. High end commercial appliances like Viking and Wolf for example are stainless....it also gives you much more versatility for cabinet colors if you want to change in the future. My opinion is white will limit you...good luck!

This is not about solicitors knocking on your door but my brother-in-law used to give the phone to his 2 years old boy when he had a phone call from a saleperson. That little boy did not mind to stay on the line and talk.

tw123456, if you live in the United States, there's something called the National Do Not Call Registry. If you register your own phone number, it takes about a month or so, and your number should be getting less calls. If someone violates the no call list, you can also file a complaint against the caller. https://www.donotcall.gov

Thanks for the info Penny V. ;0), I have in the past, and because the govt. does not enforce these laws, these people keep calling. Also, these pests just change their name, and ID, and have calling centers from different states. Now, these annoying callers, get an ear piercing whistle blown in their ear when they call, some have recording telling you to press a # and an operator will come on to help, after I press the said # and the person gets on I just blow the whistle a few times.
We also tell them to hang on, so one day a guy calls and I tell him to hang on, he says to me, "your going to make me wait aren't you?"
Another time, after I had said hold on, the guy starts saying while I am putting the phone down, "please please don't ", after a while I came back, and he had already hung up.

Wow, spring cleaning has really changed since my mother was a kid. [g] They had feather matresses and had to cut them open and wash and hang out to try the mattress cover and then fill them back up again every spring, in addition to scrubbing every inch of the house. 'Refreshing the mantle' really wasn't on the list. [g]

frenchy, you got a lot of great ideas, but you haven't said what's your style. How's the rest of the house decorated?

I did a set of tree panels for a client who had 25 foot ceilings.

If you go with a free standing tub, the floor on the back of the tub might be hard to clean if it is too close to the wall or the window.

I love the look of the free standing tub but the tub in a deck is far more practical and can also look beautiful when artfully designed.
