How bold are you willing to go? If this were my space I would make the island multicolored. I would leave the solid surface countertop but use Legos below.

After taking second look, I might even explore the idea of making the island countertop Legos as well. Perhaps coated with epoxy to make a smooth surface.

Let the island be the star of the kitchen.
