I do renovations that I like, AND increase the value. Mostly I tackle expensive labor jobs as I put more value back in.

My bathroom vanity is custom

The pros are that aesthetically it is exactly what I wanted - wood species; stain color; design of doors

Functionally it is also exactly the way I wanted it to be as it all contains very specific configuration and the drawers and pullouts were designed to be exactly how I wanted them to be.

I guess the con would be the cost potentially although the cost of my custom was probably no more than high quality ones that had upgraded interior features.

Another con is the stress of designing something when it can theoretically be exactly what you want :-)

Where can I buy pre made vanity online?

Many places.... to name a few:

Prices and quality vary drastically.... read reviews carefully.

What are pros/cons of using premade vs built

Biggest con for premade is size... e.g. if you were hoping to fully fill your vanity-alcove that has a 53.5" width - it will be practically impossible to find something pre-made in that exact size, let alone something that you like.

If you are flexible with size and some finish choices - pre-made may be less of a headache (as you wouldn't need to coordinate too many things - cabinets, top, sink, pulls/knobs, faucet, ...)

" This is our first time ever redoing anything so not sure which route to take."

You do not want to hire individual tasks out. That's the route to a train wreck in slow motion - not to mention the added costs of marriage counseling. Try that with a kitchen remodel and you are looking at divorce - seriously...not kidding. I've seen couples who knew what they were doing and have been together for 25 years almost end it over kitchen remodels.

Your general can do "as-built" floorplans - no problem. We did them all the time for an entire house. If nothing is really changing, they may not even need to do that. They should do to a tile layout to show how floor / wall tile will go - it avoids a lot of surprises. Same with an elevation showing a bathroom sink / vanity if that's changing.

Drawings can communicate a lot of information that avoid assumptions. If there are changes being made, don't be afraid to ask for a scale drawing - even if it's with a pencil and an architect scale on grid paper.
