People often blame covid for any and every vagary of life today. Kids were already addicted to screens before we knew covid existed and American test scores fell well behind the rest of the first world some time ago.

I think it simply pushed a lot of changes forward more quickly. With powerful computers in just about every home why were people driving to work anyway. People were already buying on line. Having your groceries delivered is something people went back to.

With something like 70% of covid deaths being people over 65 (one of whom was my brother) there are a lot of families missing a grandparent. Over 1,200,000 people died in the US over a period of two years and that was with all the lockdowns and closing and distancing's.
