After more than 4 years of living with this light trespassing, I did spend $1200 to buy a sewing machine and make 5 layer black out curtains for my 11ft wide windows in my 1920 craftsman bungalow because I couldn’t buy them already made. We have all of our outdoor lighting on motion sensors, shielded, warm white 2700 kelvin bulbs. For the last 5/6 months I have been working with code enforcement and local peace officers. Only one of four neighbors was ordered to cover up the double headed flood light they installed directed into our home, however because that neighbor has openly sent me threatening messages it did not end with happilly ever after. The neighbors then installed a new unshielded light and have abandoned Use of the shielded lighting. The other neighbors infront of us now turn theirs off at night, sometimes. The church across the street hasn’t been ordered to make any changes despite the city outdoor Lighting laws saying that their light needs to be shielded.

so now I am moving forward with filing an injunction with the court on grounds of nuisance. i did buy a roll of Mylar planning to attach it to a 4x8ft piece of plywood and setting it against my house to act as a light indicator so that people can see that the light is reaching my house.

currently the local night time police officers have started belittling me in regards to this issue, despite having laws in place to enforce light trespassibg, the police have said on numerous occassions “We don’t feel that this is illegal So stop calling.”

the fact of the matter is that light travels faster than sound and unshielded light directed at others homes and property is a source of light trespassing and sensory overload. Legal steps include! reporting issue to code enforcement. next if the neighbors have been made aware that this problem and persist then considered a nuisance and harassment. take the issue to code enforcement manager if that doesn’t work go to city council meetings, lastly make an appointment with your Coty mayor. or bypass steps 2-3 and go straight to an attorney to file an injunction. The problem is going to find an attorney who will truly listen, understand, and fight for you!

hopefully win over the code enforcement manager to fight for you and avoid the expense of the attorney!
