I did not fertilize my plants growing roots. If Savannah is still green I would wait longer.

Artist - have you read Ann's ebook? She's our resident RRD guru. If you have a specific question, I'll get her attention back to here...but you should probably read her ebook first. :) :) I'm sorry you're going through this. It seems hopeless right now...but you'll move through this with a bit more knowledge. Hang in there. <3 <3

For me, it's the ericaceae family. Rhododendrons, ericas (except Erica verticillata) , enkiathus, vaccinum, all die quickly. It took me a while to figure out my soil is not acidic enough to grow them, although my neighborhood has some grand old rhododendrons around so maybe it's just me. Enkianthus cernuus is the one I spent a lot of money on to watch die slowly.

Contrary to many in this thread, I seem to have the perfect conditions for lavender. It reseeds itself almost too aggressively and will grow happily alongside roses. Lavandula dentata popped up under a magnolia and is growing fine in a shady spot.

I had a monster Lillian Austin that was my favorite of all my roses. One day I noticed that it had RRD & I was heart broken. I started chopping it down & during the process of getting it out I noticed a shoot from a root that looked just like yours. My DH pulled out the rootball of the original rose & left the root with the new shoot. Within a couple of years I had a decent size Lillian Austin with no RRD. I was so thrilled!!!

“Bubble-gum/cool/romantic” - so it sounds like Peppermint Pop is out.

Especially considering what Diane B. reported:

And what the UGA people by you said about it:

And the breeder is from Wisconsin. So it’s not a rose you would want.

Jim has shown his pictures Hair extension. I believe it was 1 rose he is growing at his new house. If I could call him up here he might respond. I believe he has a recent post on it if you look through That was from the past couple of months. Mine is rock solid. It shows nicely from far away also. I planted it in my friend's garden and his does well as mine. We have high black spot pressure.

I have never seen nodules like those before, I hope you get a good honest answer. Edmunds doesn’t bake their own Raspberry Cupcakes, they get them wholesale from Star like most everyone else, so I hope they can get to the root of it Such a shame, those plants llook robust otherwise.

Do not plant those roses under any circumstances. Could be rose root knot nematode damage, galls of various sorts, etc., just keep them on hold for now. If you are instructed to keep the roses after a refund is given just wrap them carefully in several layers of plastic and put in household trash. Any tools or utensils that have come in contact with any parts of those roses need to be sanitized. That soaking water needs to be flushed down a commode. Do not spill into the ground anywhere where it can contaminate your land.

I don’t know what rose it is, but it’s an excellent shade of yellow.

Bloom diameter?

Where did you see it?

Just so you know that isn't a definite label but one you can use that's plausible. I am sometimes fine calling my roses by an "adopted name" even if it wasn't the one they were "born" with, if I don't know the real name.

Happy to help pick an adopted name! Have fun with your rose.

Some charity is in order.

Please consider the revelation of 8/eight belittling and constantly criticizing (or words to that effect) older sisters.

No, no no, no no, no no, no BMG.

I’m in agreement w/ you, RiC, Ben, Sandy, judi, Robert and Josg.

I was referring to this:

‘“I grew up with 8 bossy older sisters who constantly lectured or put me down, and I resent it. I bought way more roses from GardenRoses LLC than the ones who criticized the facts from links.” If you scroll back, you should see it.

It’s probable none of us endured what she did. That’s a lot of older sisters.

“Geez rifs....my goodness what a strong reply to a simple question from a newbie!”

Yeah, Robert, you’re right.

The evocation of Claude Rains was over the top. And the exclamation mark - most distressing.

Had no idea she’s a rank beginner.

Sorry Andrea! (ouch - !)

Andrea, let me explain my response to your post. The soil will have a myriad of good things in it: good fungi, microbes, good bacteria, planaria, all kinds of good protozoans, earthworms, pill bugs, etc. They will g to work on the chicken manure which by itself is very strong, and they will break the manure down to be wonderfully beneficial to your roses and do then no harm. Still, chicken manure, all broken down is very high in its potency which is why a pint per bush is enough, unless the bush is huge or an established climber. Young bushes take feeding in lower doses, giving them just enough to kept them in optimal shape.

So mix in good garden soil from a place that has been relatively untouched. For every gallon of manure, only a pint of soil is needed. Mix it in thoroughly, then store in an old plastic feed bag with holes punched in it where rain can IIhit it and forget about it until this coming fall, just before Thanksgiving. By then it should well mellowed out and safe. Just scratch the prescribed amount in the soil around the bush in a ring about 6" away from the rose's crown minimally, no closer.

My sister-in-law is an Andrea, and she is the matriarch, 'in session,' of my family of 20+ loyal subjects, who love her immensely. She loves almond trees for their very early blooms, which young tree II gifted her some years ago bloomed for the first time this spring, 2024. She was delighted. Thought you might enjoy this anecdote. 😊

I'd use it without reservations. I'm making the assumption that the only reason that you are asking the question about bagged chicken manure and rain is that the bag is heavier than when you bought it.? Rain soaked inside and outside? If that's true, some of the nitrogen may have leached away making it less valuable as a fertilizer but still useful as a soil conditioner. If it is stinky it might contain some anerobic bacteria but that will not infect your roses.

Roses are just plants. I bet if you treat them like your veggies, you will have great rose plants.
