Test on a small area:
- Windex or ammonia based cleaner, let in sit on the surface for several seconds then wipe
- citrus-based degreaser
- MAYBE mineral spirits but I would contact the cabinet maker first to ask about the paint and topcoat
It seems like you've only done this once, not tons of buildup so hopefully one of the gentler steps will do it. Put the Pledge in your local household hazardous waste pickup.
Try simple green in a small area
Pledge ruins cabinet finishes.
Sorry to say, he is right, it is disproportionate especially on that single cabinet! Maybe this will not bother you, only you know that, but you can probably see what he is saying.
I'm not sure what it means that the installer signed off on the design...not his responsibility to plan the kitchen, no? And there is no crown in the drawing at all.
I can understand why this would be driving you crazy at this stage, but at least the crown issue he's bringing up is something that you can still change if you want to.
In my kitchen, I had ordered simple crown that we ended up not using at all for Reasons when the install happened, so I guess I don't think it's completely wild to troubleshoot certain things when you actually have the materials in the real space.
SM: Your kitchen color is stunning!!
The easy solution is raise the cabinets up and have avery simple fill to match the cabinets . I never like crown in a kitchen when the rest of the house has none.I often do wll cabinets 21" from the counter to the bottom f the upper it allows for tall appliances to fit better too
I would trade the open shelf/wine rack situation for stacked ovens, easily. For me I would prioritize cooking function over the cocktail area and find a different place and furniture for the bar stuff. But maybe for you this entertainment aspect of having the bar stuff to hand would win.
I see room in the area within the left segment of yje range run. I'd delete the pantry full height cab anyway for counter and add the oven stack next.
Is that a corner pantry? not sure if layout is up for negotiation but having the fridge and pantry in way of prime prep space would be irritating.
i don’t mind undercounter ovens (we have one and 70+ year old relatives use it with no issue), but if i had your space i’d do an oven stack instead of bar area or full pantry cab. i can mix drinks on an island just fine. ;) i also really like having pans directly under my cooktop - so convenient!
How frustrating. Fwiw I can see the difference in the middle of the run, the cabinet with the cutting board(?) but not the one on the end.
I think I would try to live with them and get a healthy discount from designer and woodworker for my trouble. Your kitchen is gorgeous.
Oh, I’m so sorry! How frustrating! I would live with it for as long as it takes your designer to get matching cabinets in from the original maker (on his/her dime). That would drive me crazy. But it seems others would be OK with it.
It would drive me crazy also - but I think i’m a little OCD at times. I would want (expect) my cabinets to all match - so, I would want it fixed.
Unless the discount is significant 😂
What is the table made of? can't see any detail in the staged pic. Despite its color and apparent texture, the table is neither beachy nor farmhouse, it's very contemporary and may not vibe your shaker cabinets IMO. You might love it though!
It’s hard to connect what is going to be there with what’s there now - I would wait on tables, pendants etc until the new surfaces are installed and then decide. Otherwise it’s easy to go in circles and that’s exhausting/overwhelming
Thanks everyone. the house is not finished yet but we will want some things there before we move in so im just trying to plan ahead. also not really trying to go with a theme of farmhouse or beachy but moreso trying to explain my taste :) i dont read magazine covers either, but maybe I should start so i can get some ideas 😆
sorry I meant 4! In general I think keeping the traffic path to the exterior wall is the move.
Is it possible to put a beverage fridge and some cabinetry along the wall that slants into the new living room area? It would be like an extension of the kitchen, but would function more as a home bar (or coffee bar) setup. When guests are over, drinks are in the fridge, snacks are set out, and nobody has to walk through the kitchen area because it's accessible from the living room.
Actually, that slanted wall is where the entrance to the master bedroom is.
If you installed full-depth (or even extra depth) cabinets, you would be able to put away the appliances currently on the wheeled cart, and have your coffee gear on that counter. Is it working for you to have the coffee set up over there -- away from water and fridge?
To be honest I would be looking to redo the closet situation and go from there.
I agree with kandrewspa. It's worth it to rework the closet. Here's a quick draft. I'm not sure if this works--your diagram shows a 60" wide door, the door in your picture does not look that wide. But I think this could be adapted to fit a shorter wall.
Hmm, you're right that the door isn't likely to be 60". I will remeasure.
Edit: 59" included my sidelight so I ended up counting it twice. The picture has been updated with the fix.
