Please take photos showing the other end of the room and clearly showing its overall shape. You should research rug on top of carpeting because I think that may be a problem if you are concerned about the delicacy of the rug. Silk is actually quite strong.

Nevertheless, you cannot arrange your furniture off the rug. That is visually all wrong. The framed tapestry over the fireplace is much too high.

Everything in the room is still spread out far, far too much. Rethink the placement before you buy anything else. Your coffee table should be something like 18 inches from the sofa.

Do not try to achieve symmetry relative to the rug. That is not going to work. Don't obscure the fireplace with chairs and a table right in front of it. I think your rug needs to be parallel to the fireplace and only about a foot away. Your room is an odd shape. You are not going to get symmetry no matter what you do. You have to aim for balance. Notice that your rug is breaking the line of where the windows meet at an angle. That is very off balance and not attractive. You may need to pull up the wall to wall carpeting if you want to protect the silk rug. Call a rug specialist. Is there hardwood under the wall to wall.

Without seeing the other walls of the room, it is impossible to give good advice, but I am thinking placing the sofa parallel to the fireplace and using two purple chairs to each side might be a place to start.

Also, three round tables is at least one too many.

Very nice couch and purple chair.

Take one more picture of the wall of two windows opposite the fireplace. In other words stand at the fireplace and take a picture outwards.

The rug in your entry should not be at an angle. Your home is very traditional in its details but this room is asymmetrical. You will have to arrange carefully within that asymmetrical space.

Take a close up of the rug so we can see the colors.

I would be very surprised if you didn't have hardwood under that blue carpet. You may need to remove the blue wall to wall to preserve your rug. It will also look better in my opinion.

You can mix modern with traditional but it must be done very deliberately and you must be careful of colors. I am assuming there is green in the rug.

I love wicker inside. My kitty unfortunately loves them too although she has stopped scratching due to her illness.

You want aged. Put them outside in the rain and sun for a week. Frankly, I wouldn't want them aged. They will age just fine inside over time.

Main issue is proportion, so I would study measurements closely. They are a good buy and very unusual.

Hi Wendy, I was wondering how you like your white rhino countertops? We are planning to use it on all counters -- island and perimeter -- in a busy kitchen, two kids, lots of cooking etc. I love it and think I'm ok with it not staying perfect forever, but I'd love your report. Thanks!

I think she meant a couple with good taste would choose subway tile. Personally, it leaves me pretty cold although I can appreciate it in others homes.

For me it’s maximalism. Lovely in a quirky cafe or boutique hotel but at home it would give me a headache. I like a restful house and so yes quite a lot of it is grey! Not battleship grey or anthracite but bluey or greeny greys.

Concrete floors. Depressing, cold, ecologically not great, look unfinished.

Plants very high up. How do you water them?

Walk in wardrobes even if it means the bedroom becomes tiny. I’d rather have a bigger bedroom with wardrobes in it, than dress and sleep in tiny spaces.

Uber industrial. There’s a reason we usually hide cables, conduits, vent ducts...because they are ugly.

Buying new furniture and accessories very often to have an “up to date“ look. I see all these instagram pictures with everything brass, mid century, wood, rattan, green (today’s trends) and I wonder what has happened to all their grey, painted, silver, shabby chic items from 5/10 years ago. And what will they do with today’s items when the look swings round again...

LOL I bought a house with 'cultured marble' plastic bathroom counters - yeah, they're considered outdated but I love the easy care - no hidden dirt/grime buildup around undercounter sinks. Same with my kitchen, stuck to the traditional stainless sink. Didn't change out to stone counters either, my LH was noisy enough. So for me, it's the easier and more practical answers... I'm definitely not the person targeted in marketing tho LOL. I do hate grey however as i grew up with it. have neck problems and hate TVs over fireplace, don't want to have sit in a recliner in order to watch anything! I guess getting older makes some decisions easier.

Pardon me, but what is your reasoning? Unless you were both sick at the same time, I don't see the need.

@nikkisiera40 I just saw one yesterday. It's two separate water closets. https://www.facebook.com/152808912118218/posts/1005663353499432/

Add a shower so people don't come out of that area all dripping bathing suits. This wouldn't be a small project to do it right. What is your budget?

What are all your options? Could the rest of bathroom be moved to the shower area? Whatever you do, think it through carefully.

Jayne--I am so glad you have not done anything--I think it is great as is. I would update the faucet with a sparkly new hansgrohe bauloop faucet and add some industrial towel hooks from restoration hardware on the concrete walls. Hang some fun beach towels, put a plush, comfy floor mat down and you are good to go! I LOVE the CMU walls and keystones 1X1 floor tile.

I know this is old but I had a friend that used an old parachute as a ceiling in their basement. Maybe some neat fabric to cover the ceiling. They paint it white and the pipes black to play up the industrial.

Actually both options are great. However I like how the white gives it a more fresh appeal and is lighter in stature. Great job.

Wow, quite a discovery. I think you could go either way, but don't destroy it. You can cover it carefully. I don't think it determines your decorating style, just influences it. It is neutral, so that is good.

I would consult with some pros here who could maybe explain how to work with it without allowing it to dominate.

Well, you said you like neutrals and I was looking for runners with right/left movement because I couldn't find stripes which weren't just blah or very intense. This way, the pattern gives you a horizontal stripe, but you stay in the neutral range. Remember chandies can be hung flush or short so you don't have to limit your search to products labeled flush mount.

Where would the two chandies go? Two in front area on either side of door? She needs about a 12" chandy because the ceiling is not high.
