It's a charming house. I think the door color is fine, though any blue or green would work well.

Shutters would be a problem as your windows are close to the corner of the house.

Do you have a budget? You may have a lot of other expenses associated with moving.

I think a porch rail would look nice, and would be safer for you and your guests. Also once you get some plants in place it will make a big difference. Just talk to your garden center about the growth habits of anything you plant, you want to keep it low so as not to hide your home.

If you add a photo from further away you may be able to get more ideas.

If any of those trees behind the house have fall colors, I might paint the front door to complement them. If not, I’d select a door color based on the landscape plantings.

I like to see a porch added over that or a little rough over the door area and flowers or low shrubs they can flower or not in front of the house and you could add a Blue Door but it doesn't have to be aqua it could be a different shade of blue or you could do that rustic red color that looked kind of nice I thought if the trees are falling in the background or you could do a green door if you want to but get like a spa type of green potassium or a lime green

Continue to accessorize and bring home different items to test (return what’s not suitable) and suggest a larger/higher table for both visual and practical reasons.

Lift top coffee table and folding chairs might work for you. They come in various configurations.

Without an actual to scale plan of the whole space there is no way to help. IMO in small spaces less is definately more since clutter just adds to the small feel. Do the plan on graph paper that makes it easier show every window and doorways where those lead All measurements clearly marked posted here in a comment in jpeg format. Right noew my advice would be finding some way to control all the clutter and really the fairy lights just add to the mess. DO NOT start another post.

Second in from left, or second in from right, which would be my own preference.

Flooring is not the ONLY element in any design.

There is wall color, there are rugs and furnishings. The obsession of late, with negating every speck of warmth from natural select red oak is insanity.

I redid a home last year, with a natural cherry kitchen. The ridiculous hand wring of a month? We finally said wth, did a clear coat over the old and new flooring.

The house is fabulous now - Plenty of art much of it re framed, super great old and time worn rugs, new paint everywhere and completely kicked in the rear end transitional/traditional.

Don't wring a hand. You've already witnessed the DEATH of "gray floors rage", or am I crazy?

Ditto - smaller pictures, consider a shelf. I appreciate the need for a seat but the pillow isn’t necessary.

Yes, rotate the bed to the other wall. Use all off-white bedding. Hang mirror on wall across from one of the windows. Turn on the bedside lamps, it's easy to add plug in outlets with a remote control. Get a light color cushion for the chair seat, maybe with off white/green/brown in the pattern.

Then rotate the bed 180. Headboard in front of window is not working.

So in a vacation lake house where kids will be sleeping, you can change the paint color to have the current bedding and accessories work for the cost of a gallon of paint, or buy all new stuff $$$…..

Down the road if you change your mind, just go with a softer green (and your new accessories will still work).

Found these on Etsy and thought they would be a great addition to a lake cottage and your room in particular.

I would leave it empty until I found exactly the right thing to put there. I do like the idea of a wall sconce, though wiring it could be a pain. I have a snake plant that would look fabulous there.

For me, you have one finish too many. All this is personal choice and something that the next owner can easily change.

I would not do mirrors in black or anything else in black. It doesn't matter that your door hardware is darker, that is part of the house and doesn't have to influence the bathroom.

I like having the towels bars/rings in the same finish as the faucet.

When you start doing too many mixes it ends up looking like you found good deals on individual items, but no deals on complete sets, so you just bought what you found.

Yes we need a budget.

Are you willing to replace the vanity? The lighting? The wall/floor tile?

Do you use the storage under the vanity?

It looks like you don't use the wall cabinet or the shelves over the toilet?

Just cosmetic changes can do a lot, even if the vanity and tiles remain.

There's no reason you can not do a lot with $1000 or less, if you are willing to DIY some of the work. Do you have any interest in doing any work yourself? This would include removing tiles, patching drywall, painting, installing tiles, moving the door to the hallway side etc.

The flooring you select will be very important so I would wait until that is selected to make any other decisions. Ditto if you are planning to replace the door with a pocket door.

I see some water damage on the ceiling, do you know what caused that? An unsolved leak will cause misery down the road.

@njmomma Thank you for chiming in and your suggestions. The whole renovation will be a years long process. But i wil update, so stick around, if you have the patience. For now, i may even just hang a pic where the visible wall shelf is.

P Banos commented on a discussion: Where to position fold up shower seat?

It depends on how you plan to use it.

Is it going to be used by a person with limited mobility? Does it need to be positioned for access from a wheelchair? There are guidelines if this is the case.

Do you want to be able to reach the water controls and hand-held attachment easily?

It is essential the seat has proper blocking behind the wall.

When designing our tiny guest bathroom for my parents I watched this OT's YouTube videos on grab bars. (She was better than the OT/designer I hired to come to my space.)

While this video is about a specific chair you may not use or find attractive, she talks about positioning in a very useful way. Check it out.

Here is a link to Ponte Giulio - the company she recommends for shower chairs. I like that some of them come in colors and have a slightly more decorative vibe.

Thanks for all the comments. I did find guidelines from the National Kitchen & Bath Association. Their commimittee of experts review modern building code requirements and design trends.. From their list, Building Code Requirements : Shower seat must not infringe on the minimum size of the shower (900 square inches) The shower must be large enough for a disk 30 inches in diameter to fit inside the shower walls and not touch the seat. So that takes care of the minimum space requirement. I've seen seats placed on any of the walls depending on the personal preference of owner. Another thing to be aware of, besides ease of using a seat when a person is older, is to take into consideration the space needed if an aide is helping a person shower. I've done lift assists for elderly relatives for bathing. Having an open shower, without big glass doors and panels in the way, is a big help. I'm not at that point but know to think ahead about it.

  • Add drapery panels to the windows to add texture and color. It will help with acoustics also.
  • Your room needs larger art or perhaps multi piece wall decor
  • Eliminate the torchier and replace with arched floor lamp that will add sparkle to your area
  • Place a small floor lamp near the recliner for reading.
  • You don't need end tables as much as you need drum tables to hold a drink etc.
  • With all the rectangular bulky seating, select round tables to soften the appearance of the room.

I think the self backsplash looks much better.

You can barely see the schluter trim, I wouldn't risk paint on that.

Once you have a shower curtain it will really be hidden.

I agree the silver Schulutter is a mistake and looks bad. Hang your shower curtain. Use the bathroom for 3 months. If it is still bothering you, paint them.

I’d go with no vanity splash. I’ve never had one. Clean the wall the same way you’d clean the splash.

Paint the schluter, use the counter match splash and put a less dreary color on the walls : )

I'm trying to figure out how a human fits between the vanity edge and the tub?

I think the saddle is nice with the blue chairs. The chairs bring up the blue in the fireplace, and the sofa balances the floor and mantel. The rug is a good bridge for both.

Try to keep the furniture a bit off the walls and especially off window treatments.

A neutral-colored sofa will provide versatility while allowing your chairs and rug to stand out. Nice rug, by the way.
I think a soft gray or beige could blend perfectly while offering a sophisticated look. You can look into customizable sofas because you can choose their size and color. A few months ago, we bought the Anna sofa from this store with custom sofas. It cost about $2100. It's a good price, compared to other stores where for such a sofa you would pay more than $3000. And they have fabrics in many colors, so you should be able to find something that suits your tastes.

Also, consider floor-length curtains made of light, airy fabric like linen or sheer cotton. These will allow natural light to filter through so it will enhance the space's openness.

For lighting, forget the wall sconces. A floor lamp and maybe some desk lamps would look much, much better.
