Love the iris. Emvy being able to see the peony blooms. It is always so good to see the season beginning.
kay
The irises are all so pretty. I just wish they stayed in bloom longer.
The Iris take the prize. I just wish they bloomed later. Right now I'm so busy stuffing another plant into a pot that I don't have time to fully appreciate them.....I smelled one at a nursery the other day that was so fragrant. I forget sometimes just how powerful that scent can be..........Maryl
That is a lot of rain but a 5/5 warning is rare and I was quite concerned that you would be okay again. tornadoes usually do not cover huge territories but the damage can be so terrible. I am glad you are okay and that you responded quickly.
kay
Maryl - So glad the tornados missed you. Seven inches of rain is excessive.
Debra
Nice early season blooms! So glad the season is starting in earnest for you
Sherry
Beautiful blooms and I can see you have lots of scapes and buds yet to open. Love that rose color.
Very Pretty!! Brad
C. Moonstone is a pretty bloom. Gorgeous roses again. Your gardens look really lush now!
Sherry
Beautiful! Colorado Moonstone is lovely. I also love the irises and the the roses.
Nancy
Why can I not find Colorado Moonstone on the NGA database? It is a sweet looking pink............I always enjoy seeing roses. They were my first love and I wish I could grow them again but I can't .......Look forward to all those buds of yours popping. You always start the season off with a big bang for the rest of us.............Maryl
Those are pretty and very different Sherry. Neat!
kay
You give me hope Sherry...................Maryl
Love those epimedium.
Those are beautiful Brad! I have only a few blooming this year due to neglect last year.
kay
I like that NOID too. Reminds me of a fuller form of a Dutch Iris.........Maryl
Brad, you summarize my experience with irises also. Very attractive, but a lot of work for a short blooming time. Add to your notes the fact that many, if not most, require division every three years or so. And they are disease prone.
Yeah, Fernstone blooms! Keep em coming, Kay!
Sherry
Just gorgeous. And look at all those buds. Does it rebloom for you?.......Maryl
Gorgeous Kay. I always look forward to the start of your bloom season. Hope your doing okay and getting some relaxation and truly enjoy your garden.
Julia
I'm glad you're fine. Poor kitty, though. Those straight-line winds can be just as destructive as a tornado. I'm glad you didn't get the worst of it.
Nancy
I Had been worried when I saw the repeated storms that just hit and hit. I am so glad you stone cat was the worst victim...Hopefully you can find and fix his ear. And I also hope you don't have any more of that bad excitement. I can commiserate about the lack of rain an summer has well begun a few too cool mornings aside.

I triued the Shredded hardwood, but I was not happy with it aand went back to shredded pie mulch. It seems to add to the soil, and as Kate advised us, I put cardboard under it and it is much more protective against weedws.
kay
Sometimes the hardwood mulch breeds termites. Pine mulch doesn't. I use pine straw.
Debra
Kay, when you put down new mulch with cardboard, do you lift the old mulch first then put it back down with the new mulch, on top of the cardboard?
Your roses and clematis look great! Hopefully we will see some scapes from your gardens soon.
Sherry
Fernstone is looking good! The roses and the clematis are so pretty!
Debra
Lovely roses! And good to see the start of your season. Wonky spring weather probably set my start back again but at least scapes are up!
Those are lovely, Nancy. It ios a cheerful yellow> if they are perfect like yours.
kay
Hooray for the start of your daylily season! The iris an cactus flowers are so pretty!
Debra
The blooms are starting! i enjoyed the cactus flowers. Relatives in Arizona send photos occasionally of their saguaro blooming.
Sherry
Beautiful first bloom, Maryl. So happy when you and Kay start posting blooms. I have not been out this morning, Dumortieri looks like it might bloom any day. Buds are fat and showing color. I have scapes on Martin Blondeel, so it is going to be an early one. Fern stone does not have scapes yet, but Fern has not been happy for several years. I tried moving her a couple years ago, the plant looks better, but not blooming like it used to. I suspect she would like a bit warmer zone. Still, I will be watching for blooms for our southernly members and enjoy those til I have my own.
So sorry about your shingles, Maryl. I have known a few people who suffered with them, hope yours clear up soon
Kay - I actually found two this afternoon - one on a seedling, and the other on Kiss of Paradise, which many years is the first to bloom. The end of April is when I usually start seeing the first scapes.
Debra
Anticipation is a feeling you can't imitate!
I spotted scapes on Dumortieri a couple days ago, and look like it will bloom any day now. This is about its normal bloom time, and it has bloomed earlier. Still, I am surprised it bloomed at all. Last year my neigbor offered me a scoop of soil to fill in some holes I have in the yard. I pointed to an empty spot in my flower bed. I knew the soil landed on some of my seedlings, but no big deal. Apparently Dumortieri got a good bit of it, and still managed to plow through at least 8" of soil to bloom. Those species daylilies are survivors.
Beautiful! Texas Carnival Dance is really pretty and you all know how I like Geometric Wizard. Mareilles Watercolor has such delicate coloration. I love the clematis photo too.
Nancy
You have some here that just sing to me. Texas Carnival Dance has that corduroy texture along with the vivid colors that make it so appealing. Nice FFO for sure..... I also like the pastel delicacy of the old Munson. One of my favorite daylily colors. Unfortunately that soft color can have trouble holding in our heat........Finally there is Roman Cohort. One of those "If I had room" daylilies.........Maryl
