Oh sorry, my bad for not realizing that the OP was after a green leafed one, in which case acer sango kaku can be a good choice.
And yes i meant Bloodgood, to me its shape seems more cascading compared to other varieties like Emperor 1. The reason why its a common place is that its just a beautiful Tree.
"The reason why its a common place is that its just a beautiful Tree."
With nearly a thousand cultivars to choose from, why not step out of the box and pick one that is not replicated on every block? And many offer a much broader range of attractive features than Bloodgood. As JM's go, BG is pretty ordinary.
btw, Emperor 1 (aka Red Emperor) is sometimes called "the improved Bloodgood" because the single feature distinguishing it from BG is a slightly great degree of cold/heat tolerance. Otherwise, they are pretty much duplicates of each other.
PNW soils are naturally acidic so blue flowers on macs are pretty easy to come by. And dosing with aluminum sulfate (AKA hydrangea bluing) will assure blue flowers in the ground or in a container.
I’m not in your zone, but for me, nothing beats LQF. It blooms earlier than the others you mentioned and also has better fall color.
Color progression from early July through mid September:
The quick fires are beautiful!!
I'm in zone 8b Oregon. The first Lepidote (they're earlier) 'Bob's Blue' started March 16 and I imagine the Elpidotes will continue until mid May or so.
The question of when they bloom though, is a moving target, considering the climate. Blue Baron started blooming exactly one month later last year.
I am not entirely clear what the intent of the previous comment is but Endless Summer, The Original is NOT the same as Hydrangea Semperflorens. In fact, Hydrangea Semperflorens is not recognized as a legitimate cultivar name by any Hydrangea resource or authority.
Endless Summer, The Original is the first reblooming or new wood flowering macrophylla to hit the horticultural world and be acknowledged as a legitimate, registered cultivar.
And now we have the invasive Box Moth too ...
Taken yesterday. Complete defoliation almost always leading to death.
