First, you’ve done a nice job on your kitchen up to this point - I love wood countertops! I was planning on a walnut island countertop - until I decided to have stained wood cabinets for my island a few years ago (my renovation has been delayed - but about to start!)
I don’t know if the counter stools are new - but I agree with a previous post that they aren’t the best for your kitchen. Also, it looks like you need to have one less stool for the length of your island - looks too crowded.
I love the idea of using color - I think that a kitchen backsplash is a place where you can install a beautiful tile - and don’t have to play it ”safe” vs. a shower/tub surround (much easier/less costly to replace a backsplash if/when you get tired of it - no waterproofing to damage = full replacement = $$$). Plus, you and your spouse/partner/SO have the ability to do the work yourselves = even easier and less costly to change in the future if you decide to.
I love tile - it was very difficult for me to narrow down my choices for my master bathroom because because I found so many beautiful options.
You’ve been given some nice suggestions above - do you like any of those OR is there a particular shape/style of tile that you like?
Maybe @Beth will see this and offer some suggestions. She is an ABSOLUTE GENIUS when it comes to tile suggestions. Plus, she appears to be bored with ”safe” tiles - so, maybe if she has time, she will be able to offer some suggestions. She has helped so many people on Houzz!
The cute house just needs a few tweaks, so, yes, all white, even the front step. The large tree in the back ground...consider painting the front door that green. (Paint the blue panel in the Craftsman post white.)
You have a front porch and faux plants would look good and relieve you of the care.
I see landscaping is a problem for your location, but, consider this idea. Lay white pavers for the walk way.
@Mae Day Yes, they're lovely. Thank you so much!
@Nature by Design. Thank you for getting back to me. I sincerely appreciate it. Best Wishes. MAE
The experienced tile installers I have used usually have the pattern flow in one direction. I prefer that look also.
Some people like it totally random and that is their personal preference.
My guest bathroom with marble-look porcelain ... pattern flowing from top left to bottom right.
Ugh, hate what the phone camera does to the colors! The wall paint is definitely not gray! The tile is a calacatta gold look and has some warm brown/gold veining.
Thank you for the kind words, @chicagoans!
Here’s my soapstone galley kitchen, with Celadon green tiled backsplash:
