You might consider doing a cream rug or a jute rug since you have so much brown already. Please take a moment to look at the rugs in the designs below.

Brea - we are going with soapstone. will be installed next week, fingers crossed. I still think the Quartz is really nice and would go great with the chloe tile. We just decided that it didn’t really fit our house or style.

A great look is soapstone on the backsplash too, perhaps a 4"-6" splash.

Cabinet parts arrived on 13 pallets. Started putting them together on monday. 32 cabinet boxes put together in 6 days... I will say this company does a good job covering installation of every type of cabinet they offer including REV a Shelf products that get integrated into their cabinet boxes. The only thing I don't like is how the face frame attaches to the cabinet carcass. to get a tight seam along the face frame I had up to as many as 10 clamps on a cabinet (floor to ceiling). If they attached the frame with pocket holes there would be no need for clamps. That being said no damage to any of the parts and order provided close to everything necessary for assembly. You'll still need to pick various screws and I would highly recommend a narrow crown stapler for assembly over an 18ga brad nailer. You do get into a rhythm after building 3 or 4 of these. I needed help on a couple of the floor to ceiling cabinets that needed to be assembled standing up but otherwise everything was easily accomplished by one person.

This is my 1st experience using an RTA cabinet that doesn't include Ikea. The quality is definitely there and aside from the mountain of cardboard to get rid of I would 100% do again considering the money saved. If you're capable of putting together Ikea furniture you're capable of this type of project, albeit a few more tools will be needed.

I would try to lighten it up. Something like this

Take the lightest colors out of the tile . Keep it a simple pattern. Even go with large format tile so that is stays " quiet" since the travertine is so busy. You could even do the floor in the same tile like shown here.

Good luck!

^^^ I think she can pull that together after painting the cabinet trim the color of cabinets and changing the wall color. Those elements put things off. After adding the hardware to cabinets ( by the way what's planned for that?). Also applying grout in the color of tile will diminish all those busy lines. I think it will be OK at the end.

Somebody did familiar project. Here is the picture and the link describing project.

And here is a picture from one "houzzer" who used the same tile as OP with grout applied

^^^she chose frost grout

My cabinet maker is making a cabinet something like this over my counter depth fridge- for things I don’t use everyday. Cookie sheets, jelly roll pans, wire cooling racks, etc. I have a bunch. I hope it works for me! The lower cabinet next to my stove will have cutting boards which I use constantly.

I would go to IKEA and buy a cheapy narrow table that is approx. counter height maybe 3' long and try it in the middle for awhile. If you find it works and is not in the way, then you can look at getting something nicer looking and more stable.

Years ago, I bought components from table legs dot com to make myself a custom small-ish island.

I think your issue is really that the fridge is so far away. I get that it would work for some people so kids can get snacks without disturbing the chef, but I agree with others who have said that the fridge and long counter on the other side of the range would probably be better switched.

but as others have said, it does look great and I'm sorry it's not working functionally for you.

All the siding in the world, wood, trim stone whatever......isn't going to help until you have a driveway and landscaping plan in place.

It looks somber, forbidding now, and will look more so in a very dark color. Consider some structural /cosmetics on the exterior

I would suggest a slimmer piece there, and a mirror. And I wouldn’t worry about the vent; places have vents, it’s a part of life. The good news is... if any visiting guests happen to notice your vent and comment on it - they are very close to the exit. :)

Some thoughts:

--Match your wood flooring to what you have.

--Pull all your colors from the beautiful stone fireplace--warm white several shades lighter than the lightest stones but very warm. You have a lot of trees out there, so it's going to be shaded in that room when the trees leaf out. You also have dark floors already. So walls and upholstery should be light and warm.

Choose a very light butterscotch for your upholstered furniture as below. Sofa echoes the stone. Don't pick a color like Macedemia just because it avoids discussion. You have new "givens" You can pick up warm tones in upholstered pieces, rugs, art--again by echoing the stone.

I'd move the corner sink and dw. A corner sink restricts use by more than one. Also delete the cabinet to the right of the frig, you need counter there. All wide drawers for base cabinets.

White cabinets are a changing design choice because the tone of white has changed over time. You can choose an off-white that is current like Benj Moore White Dove or Decorators White. You then choose floor, counter and backsplash material to coordinate. Instead of a blue island you can use pale white oak or European Oak, if you can find it. You'll have no trouble finding European Oak flooring.

Ikea Vedhamn.

I think the white cabinets (tho not my personal favorite) probably will remain popular for a long time. What I think will date your kitchen (besides the blue island and the waterfall - which you mentioned you've ditched) are the gray veined countertops. Look for something different to go with your white cabinets. Soapstone is classic or pick a different quartz or granite counter. Tile is making a comeback and there are some nice larger format tiles that really cut down on grout lines. Epoxy grout is much easier to maintain than the older style grouts.

Keep the existing floors. Do not downgrade to vinyl. Paint the cabinets. Put the money into a counter and backsplash. You can be under 10K for your changes if you shop smartly for those things.

Lots of people mix their wood tones, and there are many articles on doing this well online. The basic guidelines recommend you DO mix light and dark woods, but DON’T mix warm and cool tones. Your predominant wood is a mid tone warm red oak, so that would mix well with walnut (darker) or maple (lighter). In the images I’ve seen this is almost always done with white cabinets.

If you are worried about wear and tear you could choose oak for your lower cabinets and a warm white for your uppers. Good luck!

In that case I think your plan is smart as you will be wedging the laundry in a space that already has a lot of plumbing. What about having the laundry where the powder room is now (but a little larger), and a door from the laundry to a small powder room where the porch was supposed to be? To me that makes more sense, but if this is the primary bathroom of guests, you’ll want to design/ build out the laundry to easily hide messes.

I think for the place you are in life, this is perfect. It reminds of the gray sectional I had when my children were young. And, it was in a smaller space than yours.

You have a lovely cozy home.

Whatever, sort of not great a plan? You aren't showing what surrounds the bath.....but I'd not want it as designed.

Yes the chase is missing here. We know its there....exact dimensions mia.

Not seeing bedroom, so no clue there, either. Just seems a lot of convoluted, to me, with too much want/need for the space.

Pocket to a bath is a noisier venture in the wee hours, a swing is better.

We have Rubio oil on quarter sawn white oak floors for the last 8 yrs. 5 kids 2 dogs 1 farmer husband and I have never felt they looked clean. Sure they don't show scratches but they always have a hazy film on them and washing the floors ( even as Rubio directs) makes them look worse. Wish I had just gone with a reg finish and at least they would look clean. Now I have to find a refinisher that knows about oiled floors. So so disapointed.

We used WOCA wood lye in extra white with the diamond coat finish on our 162 year old fir floors. The pic on the left is an upstairs bedroom that still needs another coat of the diamond finish, and the right side is a pic of the original flooring (all I could find)

I’ll update in a few months. This is a farm and we are hard on our (162 year old) floors.
