Speaking of countertops, ours went in today! We went with quartz... mostly because I wanted a simple design, I hate the cluster look of granite. The painting is done, the stain is done (and I love it, I thought it might be too light). I still haven't seen the unwrapped vent hood.

Also, I wanted a sink that divided evenly down the middle, I didn't look close enough at the spec sheet, they gave us a 60/40. It's gonna bother me, but I'll live with it. I like symmetry and this ain't it.

🤷🏽‍♀️

They're starting the tile and the propane tank will be delivered tmrw.

Beautiful! I really like the lights under the edges of your island.

@bpath - not sure why it won’t let me tag you - the quirks/issues related to using Houzz on my iPad/MacBook Air seem to be multiplying. . .

I didn’t know that an integrated fan is an option with solar tubes! I hate not having any daylight in that bathroom (even though it’s an upstairs guest bath). I will definitely hire a professional installer who will flash it correctly. Thanks for the info!

The cabinets are not new except for the island and doors, otherwise it was painted. The tile is cloe white and the grout was a very light gray but don’t know the exact name. Not sure about how the tile was installed.

The open burners are much better for evenly heating pots and pans. It's not even close :-)

As for RCS vs RNB, you'll definitely have people tell you that the higher btus on the RNB are worth it. I can't say that they aren't worth it.

But I can say that I've had a 36" RCS for a decade and I've never thought my burners lacked power. I might not get a pot of water boiling as quickly, but searing, sauteing, simmering, are all amazing. We cook a lot and it's been a wonderful range. I highly recommend it.

The data seems very clear on open burners being better for heat distribution, but I was leery of the open burners and cleaning until I cooked on and cleaned up a Blue Star range at a relative's house several times. It's amazing and the cleanup is so much easier than the flat closed stainless cooktop I can't wait to get rid of. Team open burner all the way and have ordered Blue Star RNB for our new house.

I like the green. It seems to pair nicely with all of your fixed elements and is a welcome shot of color. I don't know if it's exactly the right color green, though - hard to tell on my monitor. I'd continue down the green path, bring home more samples and see which works best.

I disagree with Jan -- it's not necessary that your island be green to use a green backsplash. Your floor is brown as is your island, and green and brown always go together -- look out the window and that becomes obvious.

I love the last one with that bright rug! I think if you like it, don’t worry about style. I think it’s psychologically damaging to live in a house where resell value guides our choices rather than what brings us joy!
