I noticed some are having issue with Stainless steel finish. When I purchased my appliances back in. 2017 I received a coupon when I registered my products and purchased this SS conditioner from them. It is the only thing I’ve used on my appliances outside of dawn dish soap and a microfiber cloth. The conditioner is great on the stove as things don’t stick making clean up easy on the SS stove top. Key is to spray on the cloth and then wipe in direction of grain

As the shrub is pushing new growth in spring - like now - is a fine time to fertilize. However, hydrangeas rarely require much in the way of fertilization. I have only ever mulched mine with compost and they've thrived.

I usually wait to first fertilize until my average date of last frost (mine falls in March; yours will vary) at full strength. Then I fertilize again at half strength 3 months before my average date of first frost. You can fertilize similarly too.

Organic compost, composted manure and cottonseed meal work fine. A general purpose, slow release fertilizer with a NPK Ratio of 10-10-10 is fine too. If your soil has no nutrient deficiencies, you could even skip fertilizing in some years with no symptoms as hydrangeas are not heavy feeders.

I recommend calling or emailing the university with an agriculture program nearest you for specific advice about when to fertilize. I am in zone 6b also. I did this because the weather has been so hinky. It was recommended to me to wait a couple more weeks to fertilize my hydrangeas with Holly-tone.

There are cold weather issues that could result in no or fewer blooms old old wood hydrangeas. You could winter protect to ensure spring blooms. You can also do a soil assay to see if after 50 years, the soil is nutrient deficient. If the shrub is very large and producing smaller blossoms, you can use rejuvenation pruning to encourage larger blooms. Avoid pruning leafless stems before the end of May in the south or the end of June in the north. Stop fertilizing 3 months before your city’s average date of first frost. Monitor the area for deer, squirrels and rabbits. Begin fertilizing in the spring after all danger of frost has passed.
