Yes very smart for your delivery date Debra.

lindalana sorry it went lower than forecast when you have so much that is up.

Ann you should be okay but fingers crossed for you anyway.

A couple of nights ago it was -5C = 23F and tonight -3C = 26.6F. My pips are still tight and there is too much to cover so I will just have to hope for the best. The coming week is much warmer but I am not out of the woods yet...sigh.

Lindalana, your poor plants took a hit! That’s too bad. Here they said it was going to go to 28 degrees F. I am sure it did as when I went out at 9 a.m. there was still ice on the top of the water in the water bowl.
But everything in my yard looks good, even the ones I couldn’t cover. My back yard tends to be warmer overall because of the fence surrounding 3/4 of the yard. Out front all the plants seem fine. Looking at the weather now it would appear that we will not have any other frost. Yay!! 🥳

Debra and Sandyslopes, I visited Horbakers few years back with NIHS bus trip, it was a lot of fun.

Sandy, those look like nice plants!

Last year I seen someone mentioned hosta Kiwi Milky way that they got at Horbakers but it was not on their website when I looked. So I emailed them and they took care of me, found me what I wanted and I got couple of others too. Nice way of doing business.

Bkay, how are you dealing with potential of Paul's Glory being infected? I am hesitant to order anything that has high HVX rate.

I bought just one new hosta this year, a large Cathedral Windows from Plant Delights.

I personally like long pine needles both for the looks and ease of water penetration, plus it seems to be naturally slug deterrent because of the sharp points on the needle's ends.

I have used cedar mulch for years but have had slug problems until I started vinegar or ammonia drenches twice a year. That controls slugs well. Cutworms are a different story. Supposedly Sluggo Plus is supposed to help with that so I will be using that as well. I wish I could use pine needles but they don’t seem to be locally available and I don’t have my own from trees.

I also did not find Green Mountain either. They still owe me money.

I disagree. Looks like cold damage or sunburn to me. Remove those bad looking leaves, and see how the plant does after that. The newer, more protected leaves show no damage.

Too early for nematodes, and HVX generally spreads out from the veins. Look at the HL photos to see that.

My metropolis outlawed Air B&B (all short term rentals) in all areas zoned R (residential). There was one of those short term rentals on the next block. They put it on the market immediately and it sold quickly.

I've spent the last few days cleaning up after a storm, repotting all the hosta I bought last year and doing the first steps to a new bed of climbing vines against my neighbor's 8' wooden fence (he's going to love that!).

I took a day off from work and spent eight hour unburying my 200 potted plus hostas. Went through 12 cubic feet of potting soil repotting and top dressing the pots and then moved them into my temporary greenhouse for the next two to three weeks.

Not being in the totality path here in Milwaukee, I didn’t think anything would happen. However, that morning I hit on a link showing all areas that be affected and MKE was in the 90% area. I had a two o’clock massage appointment, right at the peak time. So I called my massage therapist and asked if we could move my appointment time a bit so I could view the eclipse. That was fine with her. So my DH quickly made a box for me. I went to my appointment, arriving 15 minutes early so we could watch together. When she saw my box she said, “oh maybe you’d like to use my glasses.” OMG!! The eclipse blew me away! To see a completely dark sky through the glasses with a bright Amber colored sun and the black encroaching moon so perfectly clear, was just amazing to me. A neighbor of mine who’s quite the world traveler plans to go to the 2027 eclipse in Egypt. I just may join her. There is one coming through MKE being in the full totality, but that’s in…..wait for it…..2099! I will be long gone!

Utog, your photos of the shadows are really cool!

Ann, your garden is getting greener and greener!

I have a few pips but it’s too early here with our last frost date being May 11-20. I remember when it was mid April. I put some dirt on those to protect them. Hopefully we won’t get any late frost. 🤞🏽

lindalana, nice seedlings. Yours are so much farther along than mine. How soon do you plant your vegetable garden? I have to wait until mid-May to June 1, depending on the forecast.

Ann, Indianagg, that's a lot of water! How much rain does it take to flood your yards like that? I don't know if I should give it a "like" or not?

Well, it’s Wednesday now so I’m behind everyone. No much going on here! It’s cold and rained all day yesterday and it’s now it’s starting to flurry …… can’t seem to make up its mind! My hellebores and Heucheras are waking up but I haven’t started cleaning them up yet. It has been too cold and wet for that. I’ve been planning for the bathroom remodel. We decided to take out the tub and just have a walk in shower. Yay! We also went and bought all the fixtures for the shower stall which includes a rain shower head. Since we are in WI, Kohler is local (About an hour’s drive) so we bought all Kohler fixtures. I think I have selected the paint color I want and made a decision to tile the room’s walls halfway up from the floor using white subway tile. My new neighborhood cat, “Blueie” hasn’t come around the last 2 days due to the weather. I have a plan to trap and neuter him with the aid of a neighbor! No more girlfriends for him! 👍🏽

Something tells me that "staircase" is just the frame for the staircase to come. If not, it would be the basis for many lawsuits from injured guests.

I am late too. Beautiful start for many, sorry about all the rain for some.

Heavy winds with snow took out power in my area. Out from approx. 8:00pm Wednesday to 2:00 Thurs.

More damage to trees but not even close to the damage caused by last Aprils ice. I did not get nearly as much snow as they were calling for but wind was the issue. I am so tired of this lol!
