I listened to a really interesting podcast with Mark Hyman and someone named dr tyna about GLP-1's. She minidoses them from a compounding pharmacy and had a lot of interesting things to say about how many different issues they can help. It was a really interesting conversation and her account seems to have a lot to say about the positive use of this type of drug. I don't know anything about her, just thought her take on this was an interesting addition to the conversation that is mostly going on.

I did great with pickleball last week, but no weight training and had Mexican both nights this weekend with way too many tortilla chips and a margarita both times! So, I need to get myself back on track. Plus I was playing in a tournament, so I ate more carbs than usual to make sure I was ready to play. I'm traveling again this week, so weights probably won't be in the picture either. I should try bands or body weight exercises so I can be more consistent. It really does seem like a missing link for me.

I like my new blanket, and I got a great new fan which actually does seem to blow cool air - of course we'll know more when the weather really heats up. But I have been sleeping better with these adjustments.

Feathers, your comment about healthy habits in children to offset the pathophysiology early on is interesting to me. It makes sense. For me personally, I was always a fit (sometimes skinny) active child who was taught to eat when hungry and eat what was needed to feel full. Certainly we focused on eating healthy foods and talked about that, and honestly that continued for the most part with the exception of some bad choices in my 20s. I was never obese, but definitely overweight during periods of adulthood, and it feels like a constant battle to fight my body wanting to return to being overweight, even when exercising regularly and trying to eat healthy foods. I wish I had a good explanation why it feels like a constant battle for me and some of my other friends tell me they just lose their appetite as soon as they start to put on any weight.

Which reminds me, ”Wonka” was a sweet film.

Yuck on those changes Funky. That's kind of a bummer. I know a lot of people really don't care about their actual birthday, but I always like to have some plan, so I'm sorry your work is hindering your celebrations!

kswl- that is some seriously impressive tracking! Good for you.

I don't track calories, although I think a couple weeks of tracking would be good for me to see what my maintenance calories are, so maybe I can lose some more weight one day. But I do eyeball the protein and fiber throughout the day, mostly just trying to incorporate my meals around them in some way. @feathers - with all those veggies, I bet you do get to your goal!

Sounds like a great week, GS .. just love your mustang (even if it is red LOL)! Don't do too much work this weekend... make sure to give yourself breaks/walks, etc.

I had a good birthday in the sense that it was a non traumatic transition to 60 lol. I did spend the entirety of my birthday (and a portion of the next day) working on a deadline-- a submission for a national award for my last project. It is exciting but it was a LOT of work and the deadline was moved up. The good news is that the executive reviews have gone super well-- only minor edits-- so I feel good about what I was able to accomplish. Still-- the official submission is a month away and it is a highly competitive award so all this work may not result in anything ... but still, it is an honor to have made it this far.

I will be celebrating with my sisters and some of my nieces this evening -- and with SO (from afar) this weekend (and then again when we go to NYC in May). I am all about celebrating Birthday Weeks .. and Months!

I held on more or less this week-- nothing great and I did have some indulgences: sister/niece had thai food delivered to my doorstep while I was working on my deadline .. and I had half a lemon coffee cake to eat over the week. Still, I did fairly well given the way the week played out.

Kitschykitch & Kswl,

thank you for thinking of me . things are getting a bit better every day. there are times i can go a few days and manage quite well and then for no reason I go to pieces.

but that said i do see more light at the end of the tunnel.

i realize now that i still have a daughter and grand daughter that need me so I am working hard on trying to stay strong for them and i guess myself.

i am lucky to have them and am trying to be positive and count my blessings.

i know my DH would have wanted that.

Sorry, no personal experience. I have not, but a lot of my friends have. I am 53, and whenever I comment on how good someone's skin looks, they almost always tell me, "botox." I think they all look good, although I am probably not informed or observant enough to really critique the work. I just noticed they had less wrinkles than me and we were close to the same age :) I know younger women - in their 30's - who do it regularly, saying that way the deep lines don't get a chance to form.

I have considered it. I have a lot of crows feet - smile lines, but oddly I have gotten used to those. What's bothering me now is my upper lip. I look like a smoker - but really it's from too much drinking out of straws. The lines on the side of my mouth bother me too, but that is a filler issue and I think much harder to get to look good.

DH was a teeth grinder and had some jaw pain. He did Invisalign and felt better within weeks. I'm sure it depends on what is causing it though.

Tina, yes, my PT also did dry needling for my foot. It didn’t bother me although I also hate needles! I am mostly a weenie about needles drawing blood 🤢 … I can handle other types of needles OK as long as I don't look.

Gscience - no fat readings at all. I really should have done more research before getting it. They only scanned my hips and lower spine and gave me a Tscore and a Zscore which basically just said I was in good shape as compared to women my age and weight. So, OK? I don't really understand those types of comparisons for health issues as they don't seem to say much. I'm going to look around in the bigger city a few hours from here and see if I can find the full dexa scan with the report done privately. Although, honestly you can kind of tell with your weight and waist size about the visceral fat issue, so I can pretty much predict what it would say.

I'm going to look at other sleep masks. I like that mine is molded so your eyes can open inside it, but it's foam and kind of hot now that the nights are getting warmer. I did like my new blanket though :)

legomom, you got the kind of dexa to check for bone density/osteoporosis/osteopenia. I have to get that one every two years to see if my osteopenia has progressed to osteoporosis. I think this is the kind you were wanting: https://www.questhealth.com/fitnesity-dexa-scan.html or this one: https://www.dexascan.com/

Yes! That is what I want to get - my fault entirely for not asking enough questions before hand. But it's good to know no osteoporosis or osteopenia as of now :) We just don't have any of those type of places locally and I wrongly thought I would get more info from any Dexa scan.

I just ordered a pair of the Gentle Souls boots in a light gray suede, great sale and I have a gray cable knit sweater dress they will go with. I have a few pair of shoes in that brand and they are very, very comfy and I’m hoping the boots will be too.

@Kswl I had a very similar pair to those that i actually purchased from Jjill. They were very comfy as well as two pair of wedge type (gray and a black ) which are also …no break in time needed.
