Berry, it's good to see your post. Are you feeling better? I haven't got any new plants to put out yet, but my friend Elaine is bringing me snapdragons tomorrow that she started from seed. So I'll be planting them soon, since she hardened them off, it's warm here with nothing cold predicted, and my snaps from previous years are big and getting ready to bloom. As you can tell, I'm happy with everything. I got one of the drip stations and all the little sprinklers up and running today, and though I got a little soaked, at least there were no geysers to hit me in the face. What really makes me happy, is I finally wrote Grace Rose Farm about two hours ago and I've already got a response telling me my rose will be shipped April 20-30. Finally. Of course, I had to threaten them with the Fair Credit Card Billing Act and having my cc cancel the transaction. That's a first for me. So, my two new roses for this year are another Angel Face and Ashley. My Brunnera are blooming away with their tiny blue false forget me nots, and the awful violets are blooming, too. I've even got some lily of the valley, whether I like it or not, getting ready to bloom.
Kitty, you promised us no more rose orders. And here you will be ordering Black Baccara, which I admit is tempting. I've known of it for years, but I finally checked it out on HMF, and it's a gorgeous thing. I'll have to settle for The Prince, I guess. Don't you have Munstead Wood? Diane

Mr Prince 2023
Thank you, RoseCanadian!!
Diane, your Prince is stunning. I had it on my Garden Rose LLC order too as well as WS2000 same as Kitty. The Black Baccara is gorgeous. So velvety.
I wonder what the 2024 new varieties will be for all the rose hybridizers. Very curious about the new DA’s. I’ve heard some comments that they have all the light pinks and yellows figured out, surely it will be different.
Thanks, Echo. The Prince has grown in my garden for many years. He likes to go two tone quite a bit. Munstead Wood, I have two, is my favorite dark red. Ascot, a Tantau is another favorite of mine. Purples are my most favorite of all with Twilight Zone at the top of the list.
Carol, there's a new zone 3 forum member getting her first Austin rose. You need to give her rose growing tips, and she needs to join us where we'll feed her addiction. Check her post. I think it's about getting her first DA rose. More later. Diane
The Two Tone 2023
I didn't intend to get own-root roses when I placed my order with Managerie, but unfortunately, some roses were only available in that form. I was expecting roses looking like 'Heirloom' roses, so you can imagine my surprise when I received roses that looked exactly like own-root roses in the picture :
@elenazone6, I also just wanted to give a shout-out to Menagerie. I ordered a Bolero own-root from them and the quality and packaging/shipping were excellent. The bare root I received was robust, with awesome roots, though Bolero is of course a smaller variety, so it wasn't as big as what you've pictured.
I feel like Felicia of Menagerie really knows what she's doing and runs her business very smoothly. I think there were some kinks with collection launches in the past (maybe it was too much website volume -- I can't remember), but she's addressed that. She's also curated a very nice assortment of varieties.
They are running some great deals on bare roots right now before they stop selling for the season.
i got a madame anisette from heirloom about that size last year and was quite happy with the vigor if not the price!
Teasing Georgia is a good one actually, I've had that too, grew quite large.
kama11,
Well I don't know about privacy, if that was a concern I'd want a large evergreen or something like a big Buddleia I suppose. Rise Up Lilac Days or 'Lilac Bouquet' as we call it here, is a bushy rose but worth growing for its rose value rather than anything else, so I'm not best placed to advise on the privacy issue.
This is it right now, the top part is almost height of the fence - 6 feet or will be in a few weeks time. It will also grow as a rambler if given suitable support. I'm aiming to go sideways with it.
If your goal is fast growing and coverage you may be better off getting a climbing rose on the larger side like New Dawn and keeping it in check rather than hoping a smaller one will fill in the space exactly.
I have had some good experiences with DA climbers, they can get big but tend to be easier to manage than the Hybrid Wichuranas like New Dawn or house eaters like Cecile Brunner. If your space is small you might also consider a thornless rose like Raspberry Cream Swirl, I have this one next to a small gate and its quickly becoming a favorite though you have to be okay with stripes 😄 Lady Banks is another one thst is a large fast growing once bloomer but can be kept in check and is almost evergreen in my zone, not sure about yours, someone else may be able to chime in.
with any rose it will take a few years to take off, as they say - first they sleep, then they creep, finally they leap. It generally takes about three years for any plant including roses to take off but once they do they will really take off. So even a fast grower will take some time to give you full coverage.
Oh boy I can’t tell you enough how much I love my blush noisette ! I think you’ll love it too . Mine gets a lot of shade , yet grew quickly To the top of my arch and blooms a ton . Once it starts here it won’t quit til December. The bees love it . It smells great. You’d never know it’s sun is so limited!
My other side of the arch is renea . smells even better , bees also love and blooms a ton !! Please give that one a look !
I also just bought rise up lilac and it looks pretty ! I planted it in a raised bed and it’s against my fence so I can’t get in there to smell it yet . But it’s a gorgeous color !!
I had lavender lassie in Tennessee, own root and it was fantastic. Love that rose ! I have one here too and it is a baby but I know it’ll be super.
Lastly one I bought from palantine to maybe keep your eye on is called lavender siluetta .
Just my humble note here I tried buff beauty and it wanted to grow wide before it would grow up and I just didn’t have patience for that rose . I wonder if I jumped the gun but maybe someone else will chime in on that one .
Also new Dawn can tend to black spot a bit just fyi , not sure your plan for diseases. I’ve seen a naked new Dawn with blooms on it 😂 My lavender lassie did in tn but leaves never turned yellow and fell off . It appeared fine far away . If i remember correctly renea stayed clean for me and I’m not sure about blush noisette as I’ve only had it in California.
Renea
Blush noisette
Blush n on the right . it now is just about at the top. this was last may . renea is on the left swalloweed by a clem but happily blooming on the back side of the arbor
I have a Royal Jubilee and Desdemona. RJ was growing in the ground but not thriving, so I potted her up, so they're both growing in pots. I overwinter them in the unheated barn, they come through the winter that way just fine.
Rosecanadian, aka, Carol, lives in Calgary in zone 3-4 and overwinters her many roses in a heated garage. They are all potted and her husband wheels them out to join the rest of the plants in her garden when it's warm enough. They are outside until the fall at this point. You should join us on the spring seasonal thread which she hosts, and her posts are all over the forum.Good luck with your new rose. We're all plant addicts here. Diane
Yes, I have three Bliss bushes. My only complaint, a very small one, is that the Bliss bloom when viewed in profile is flat, not high centered or cupped. Otherwise, I sing its praises. Such robustness and bold presence of the bush itself is ponderous.
Moses
Thank you Moses. Since you and the Rose geek seemed to really like her I also ordered 4 from home depot and I am so glad I did. I don’t mind the flat blooms even tho I do prefer chalice shaped ones like Earth Angel. Thank you for recommending Bliss I think she will be a favorite. Do you grow earth angel? Her blooms are gorgeous and the plant is healthy. I would recommend her grafted from palatine.
I just got my hands on this one a few weeks ago and can already tell it is going to be a STAR. Huge, squishy, old fashioned blooms that are highly fragrant and last for a LONG time. Starts out creamy with apricot undertones and fades to white. I can’t wait to watch this guy grow, it might become my new favorite!
This last photo is a bloom that is 12 days old. 12!
Twelve days old and very fragrant? My heavens...we all need this rose!! What a beauty!!
Bart, you amaze me! Truly. Searching for the Supergardener emoji…. 🦸 It sounds like Tradescant is a GREAT rose for you, too. Our climates are so different, but it seems like our Tradescants may behave similarly in the garden. Paul and Jeri live so much closer to me, but their experiences are very different from mine. Go figure, right? Crazy (but wonderful) DA rose!
John, WOW!! That is exactly what I was hoping you’d post. I’ve never seen a lovelier Tradescant. EVER.
Sheila, I must have Diablo Hawk! Like, like, like,….
Carol
I have one flourishing in essentially full shade with a ton of buds. It is under open sky but the sun beams never really directly hit it due to the position of the building next-door. I didn't have space for it in the fall so just stuck it in a pot in a holding pattern until spring, and am really sort of amazed it seems so happy in that spot (so it's staying there). Very few roses would seem to bloom like that with so little direct sun? I feel that both my own root and grafted ones are taking off with little effort on my part. (In Europe, there is different rootstock than in the US). For the moment, they are short and bushy, so good for the front of a border (or a pot).
I had one once, but it died over its first winter. I am in zone 7, but we have occasional late frosts.
Greenville, SC here. So in love with my clearance rack Strong Heart rose.
Be funny if it was something like True Endearment, temp branded for a sales line.
Sometimes when a brand new rose comes out there is not a whole lot of information avaliable. But if it has been out for a while and there is no information on it, be suspicious of the quality of the rose. you might find more information on a site called Help Me aidentify. pick plants then roses. Then type in the name of your rose.
Thank you Diane! Nuts, I was hoping it was
I think you have this variety of Japanese origin.

The text is in Chinese, but Google Translate is your friend. Buried in the text the name translates to ’Royal Palace’. Your plant looks very healthy and full!
Thank you so much for finding that Ben, super helpful! Fingers crossed it's winter hardy and not a disease magnet
