Do be aware that black may show dirt and water spots much more than other dark colors might. That has been my experience with my house which is a dark blue gray with black windows and a two sided black wall to the left of the door. Keeping the black siding looking good is not easy, though I do like the look of it.

Glad you love it! Please post pics. BTW, wondering about your comment about new deck, no railings. I think I see a raised deck that would not be safe without railings.

I don't know if you seen these yet, but I got a Horchow catalog today which made me think of your dilemma. It had a two page swivel chair spread including this square style.

Ann, I have Edgecomb Gray on much of the main floor of my home. I like it a lot and do not think it looks at all lavender. It is a neutral with some character, and looks quite different on the various planes of the room.

Hi, Ann! What color did you decide to go with for the main walls in your house? Please post some pics. I love the way you decorate!

I am going to pop in for a moment as Ann is traveling right now, but she went with Accessible Beige and loves it in every way. Gosh, I know she has lots of house pics on here, too......but where are they?

Here's a list of dangers in my new Arizona yard so far: mountain lion, bobcat, javalinas (small wild pigs), rattlesnakes, scorpions and coyotes. Oh, and I've managed to get painfully stuck by all manner of cacti. I should add that we love the beauty and adventure of living here!

When I lived in Southern California, they were warning joggers about the mountain lions/cougars because after they banned the hunting of them, the mountain lion population started to grow. However since they are solitary creatures that won't allow other mountain lions in their territory except during mating season, the older stronger mountain lions were keeping the "good" territory away from humans, while the younger less experienced mountain lions were being driven into the suburbs by the older ones. The way a mountain lion hunts is by ambush, they sit up in a tree till a deer runs under them and they drop on it and kill it by breaking it's neck. Unfortunately, the younger ones will do this to human joggers and the last time I checked (a few years ago) there had been more attacks on humans in California in the last 30 years than there had been in the 200 years before that. I'll have to remember to check the figures again and see if the problem is still bad out there, or maybe someone who's living there can tell me?

Living in Alaska, we have had moose and caribou come through the yard ... Watch out for the momma moose ... And have had brown bears in the neighborhood. You should never walk outside without taking a look around just to make sure the coast is clear. Our cat kept my husband from going outside at our remote cabin ... Large brown bear in the yard. I wouldn't live anywhere else!

My sister and I liked our parent's simple brushed stainless flatware from the 1960s so much that we each got the same pattern when we got married. Many of the spoons went down the disposer, but we combined sets and I am still using them today.

For our new winter home we are using my husband's grandmother's sterling flatware from the 1920s. I love using her beautiful pieces everyday, and I know she would be pleased, as well.

My original basic stainless flatware is 53 years old and looks almost new in spite of everyday use. I have had a second set of stainless flatware for 12 for dinner parties for over 30 years, also like new. Good quality lasts.

I left my good stainless steel with my ex. I've been using some mix and match silver plate mom found at a yard sale for almost 20 years. The plate is worn off in places and the edge of the knife blades are rusty. ick!

I found a very tarnished set of silver plate in otherwise perfect condition and paid $35 for 71 pieces. A steal! And that will now be my new everyday cutlery. (See pic)

My question is, what do I do with the old set? It's really not fit for humans at this point, so the thrift store isn't the answer.
