So lovely! I especially like the softer, creamy, dreamy color.
You grow such stunning specimens, Erasmus. Both versions are lovely but I also prefer the creamier version, so delicate!
Thank you! Some say it's pretty disease resistant but mine tends to get some blackspot. No mildew. I'm pretty sure my plant is grafted.
I was wondering the same thing, Artist… how in the world did the OP get an LEH this past spring?? I’ve been on DA’s waitlist for how long and haven’t gotten a notice that it was in stock. I check the website frequently as well.
If I recall correctly LEH was available for a hot minute and some folks got lucky but I have no idea why I and others that had subscribed to be notified didn't get the notification it was back in stock when that happened.
As for the coloring, the bronzy purple new growth is typical (and one of the things I love about her) and while I have no idea whether the speckles are also normal mine had it too early in thr season and it didn’t seem to be an issue in the 6 years I had her before I moved.
Thank you, Heather for telling me that!
Thank you

I will do some research St Celia now.
How is that I missed this thread ? Yes, as Magpie said (almost two years ago!) I do grow Heidi Klum and love her. Sorry for the very late reply!
She is fragrant, but I would say only moderately so. However she has pretty much every other quality I could wish for here, and is a perfect size for growing in pots.
I hope she'll become available in the US soon!
I loved my Lavender Crush in Texas, and I love it in California.
My plant pics taken today:
Beautiful rose that I have been admiring on J&P since they began selling it exclusively. Your bloom is lovely. Do you think this rose would do better in the ground? How large is the bloom? Please keep posting photos of Caribbean Breeze. Diane
I also have this rose and it stays small. It is is one of my better locations sun wise although the soil could be improved more. I’m trying to be more regular with fertilizing (although I’m pretty sporadic with my other roses and they seem to do just fine) and that seems to have helped some but I don’t think it will ever be considered a robust, healthy rose
“What might cause …?”
ionizing radiation
I’m starting to think that PIP Eden is not a very stable sport. Mine is just getting big enough to start blooming quite nicely and it is giving me some interesting versions of both the original color of Eden, some dark pinks and some mixed blooms. Really weird.
Off if the Grace topic but still about roses that havent come, namely Garden Roses. I got an email today thanking me gor hanging in there and my rose would be ready this summer. Should I hold my breath ? lol Who knows maybe I will
Nollie, I’m having problems with LOTS of my rose buds doing the same thing this spring. All kinds of roses. And we haven’t even had rain recently, so I can’t blame it on that. Many of mine look far worse than what your picture shows… I’m blaming it on a combination of things. That late freeze we had that damaged a lot of buds and new growth, excessive powdery mildew from the cool spring, thrips, and the high winds that rip through here in the spring. My spring flush is getting ruined on many of my roses.
Isn't that SO sad? Anymore the weather has become so dammed capricious; I just don't know what to think. These last few years in Tuscany have been so disappointing: too dry in autumn and winter; only at the end of April and May did it start to rain properly. This pattern did not do the roses much good at all, because suddenly afterwards it became horribly hot, and stayed that way. So, the spring flush was pretty much spoiled ,and the poor roses were also frustrated in their attempts to grow, since the rain arrived so late. Thank Heaven, this year has been great, with lots of rain, but I wonder if I'll ever again get the glorious explosion of flowers that I used to get in late spring. I don't even really consider summer bloom; it's just too hot here. So, so sad..
Probably I shouldn't have "liked" your post Sheila, lol. Sounds too much like the kind of stuff we've been having here in the last few years.
My sympathies, Sheila. We had an incredibly mild winter here too. The weather has gone bonkers and unpredictable everywhere, it seems. The poor plants don’t know whether they are coming or going!
Dianela, because of your stellar review of Vulcano, I have one plsnted in my back yard and it is really thriving.
LEH at your local garden center, Daniela?? I would jump for the chance.
Ah, lovely! That one has been on my list for some time and I keep missing out on it, one way or another.
Feiy, no support
Wow, so so beautiful just lovely
I'm sorry you didn't get what you're expecting. In general, own root plants are much smaller and younger than grafted plants. In the past, I've recieved a plant with a broken stem from a different reputable vendor and was disappointed. But then I trimmed it off and planted it and the rose thrived. I suggest trimming the broken branch off and planting.
I'm going to chime in with some positive affirmations for Madame Anisette. She is very vigorous and healthy and honestly, should be sold as a climber. This plant may look tiny now but she will not stay that way.
She's a favorite in my garden. I think you should find a place where she can get big and give her a structure for support and you'll be happy!
Here's mine in bloom last season, just after 2 years in my garden, planted as an Heirloom own root in spring 2021.
Thar blank space exists only because of the wonderful long cutting stems she grows. Pictures here is just 1/3 of my whole plant.
And you can't tell that I had just harvested several dozen blooms
Bathtub for scale.
Can you tell she's a favorite of mine?
Here's the arch we built for her. Enjoy these unglamorous rainy grey spring photos... hopefully you can see how huge she is! I'm 5'9.
I would never complain about a plant that healthy looking. I don't think Heirloom can be responsible for people's lack of experience. Educating gardeners takes years of experience and time the sellers don't have. This is why we are on here to find out what is what.
Ah, Ben, you grow Scentous to perfection for sure!
What do you mean, you have no more room, Carol? Just buy another big pot for Scentous. Diane, I think she is your kind of rose. She’s all full and ruffly and would look gorgeous with your other roses. Yes, I think I have a few photos around, but none that even come close to Ben’s photos so I might feel inferior posting them. Nevertheless, if I find a few, I will post some.
A few from last year. Mine is just coming into bloom this year and I don’t have any good current ones.
Carla, yours lasts much longer than mine, which last about 3 days. i wonder if it is climate related?
Hi Nose
We've mostly been in 70's, so I will have to see what 90's do!
Ben lives not far from me, his Scentuous last summer would be a better barometer.
Carla
That is incredible, Ang! That is one gorgeous rose. Can you tell me what the bush shape is like for you?
That’s a luscious bouquet of Top Cream, Echo. Thanks, Ang. I’ve had my eye on this one for a while but I don’t really like the tall, stiff hybrid tea shape of bushes, in general. So, I’ve been holding off till I see more pictures and reports of the bush habit.
Echo, Princess Charlene can have that growth pattern a bit here too but I’ve found by pruning her front canes more I can get blooms all over. I try not to fight her too much though and let her back canes get big like she wants to
Sweet Madamoiselle doesn’t seem to want to be as giant as PCdM and has blooms all over more consistently
Carla, I’m near San Antonio, Tx so we had a 105 summer last year too and we get all that moisture from the gulf. Hot and humid. I’ll have to look into those. I think I may do a shade cloth this year, we’ll see. I just kind of go into gardening knowing the Spring and Fall is where most of my plants will perform.
OurSteelers, my SM is currently larger than my PCdM and blooming less. but SM gets a less sun. I just gave them Miracle Grow Bloom Boost and am waiting to see what they think of that
I love the name so much and a really beautiful rose to go along with it
Judi - thank you for posting this rose !! I have two from rvr . One potted one in part sun ground . They both are only 2 years old so nothing great yet but your pics give me hope !! Here is mine today .. the ground one . Which is covered by a vigorous pincushion flower . I love those plants ! But I cut some the other day and realized they are aphid magnets . Like insanely covered in aphids . Not sure if that’s good ( keeping them away from my roses ? Or are they a breeding ground? )
Your photos are so lovely !!!
I don’t think it looks like it’s dying. Personally, I wouldn’t give it any more fertilizer just now. Just keep it moist and give it good sunshine and I think you’ll soon see new growth. It’s probably working at putting on root growth.
Thank you for comments so far. I'm in central ohio which they say is now zone 6 but i still consider it a 5. I guess my main concerns were the brown cane and the brownish streak on the larger cane. I do see a few bud eyes on the rose so maybe there is hope yet.
I might prune the brown cane off. I think it should make it.
Diane, im glad that you had a day to enjoy your yard. Those sunny days are pretty special.
Magpie, im so sorry that you are have been going through dark times. Being a woman/mother is challenging isnt it? It feels overwheming and thankless, we have all been there so we will he sending you love and encouragement and prayers. you are a strong and compasionate woman with such a generous heart, take time for you.
Thank you everyone for your kindness. It'll be okay, I'm pushing myself through with lots of positive affirmations every day. Things for really rough in early March when my family went through a huge change, and I kinda slipped into "nothing even matters, what's the point* mode. But even so, even though I'd stopped caring about the garden at that point, luckily I had the prudence to plant seeds anyway, and go through the motions every day to tend them inside. I know one day they'll bloom and give my spirit a lift when I need it. Seeing all the trees flowering is so lovely, I know the garden will grow and remind me that there is always renewal and beauty if I just have patience and a little care to give. I'll tend the garden, and it will nourish me.
Yes it will, Magpie. My garden was a huge help to me when my first husband died of cancer at 37. My 6 month old and 3 year old and my patients all made me feel life was worth living. It will get better.
That is an exceptionally lovely rose! I wonder how good the rebloom is on that one?
Judi, too early to tell but so far it has been continuous. I'm sure it will slow down once the heat comes.
Artist
My Olivia was planted in the ground more than a year ago , it has grown nicely into a 3x3 shrub but unfortnately does not bloom at all .David Austin's Boscobel is near it and was planted at the same time , and blooms constantly . Some European roses require cooler temps to bloom . My climate in central FL is almost tropical with high heat & humidty .
What a difference a day makes!
Rose bed today.
Flowering plum tree.
Phlox survived the snow.
Tulips are reopening.
My favorite that blooms all the time, smells good, disease resistant, & gets big is: Spirit of Freedom! She loves the deep south too.
She leans towards lilac pink and sometimes gets really lavender. Might not be as bright as you want but very romantic. Quick Silver and Bathsheba both bloom at the same time, every flush here for some reason so may be good companions. She also looks really good with a single white rose growing up a trellis with her..it could be a clematis, even. She would prob look good with a blue clematis as well.
What Ben said. They are the ultimate low tech small mom'n'pop operation, even more so than RU, but now that they got mentioned as a source in the recent discussions, I'm sure they're completely overwhelmed. They've always required patience, and even more so now :-D
Oh Susan, I’d say K&M and RU jointly win the gold medal when it comes to Low Tech Roses! RU’s website, where you have to keep hitting ’older posts’ to see additional offerings should probably win some ’ least intuitive user interface’ award, too. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to explain to folks how to view all their offereings. (And this is their reveamped and ’improved’ website!) But they are my two favorite vendors for hard-to-get roses!
Hi Judi, you and I emailed them on the same day I believe and I just heard back from them yesterday. They said they were going to ship out my roses by the end of the day when they go to the post office and she would then call me for payment. I still haven’t heard back for payment yet, so we’ll see if the roses got shipped out or not before payment…
Is it possible that maybe they have extra roses sitting around because of the mass cancellations?
Elestrial,
Often businesses do not know they ”can’t go back on their policies… their guarantees…. ” That is often how it starts. What a shame to not honor his policy, a breach in PA law. Refer to his policy on his website…. I posted his policy to give refunds…..attached above….. He is required by law now to give refunds if customers request them.
Customer may choose to work with him by purchasing other products or waiting for delayed orders. as an alternative, too.
I see he had some wonderful ideas starting his farm.
Heart breaking to see a business not make it. I wish there was a way honestly to bless everyone and his business.
Submit email to your bank or CCcard Co. & they will pursue taking care if it now.
I was able to get a full refund but it does seem like I am in the minority group with that. A sad and strange situation all around. I hope those who have tried but not gotten a refund yet are able to succeed with a chargeback
Mystic beauty . This gal is about 4 or 5 as well and own root from roses unlimited. For some reason she is a slow growing one for me personally, so I don’t prune her back at all . I love her beautiful blooms especially against the lavender next to it .
thats all for today :)
Yeah, I told Paul that a lot of us are going to miss his posts. I hope he reconsiders and comes back on. There will always be the few who make it difficult occasionally, but I’m glad for each one who stays and contributes to the wealth of knowledge of this community. I think Paul has so much to offer.
My roses will he sent this Sat snd should he here early next week. I used to he able to go pick them up but since covid I dont think they do that anymore
That's exciting!! :) :)
Gorgeous photos! I can't wait for the roses to start blooming here!
Breath taking!
Flora, I feel pretty ashamed of myself for my emotional reaction. I take it back, and am very sorry, and very, very grateful to you for helping me in my struggle to be the person that I'd like to be.
Thank you, Lilyfinch for your post with pictures. I’ve never ordered from them but I’ve been on their website several times recently because they carry St Ethelburga, a rose that’s been on my list. I see you got that one!! Now I won’t be scared to try them. And Diane, they have Royal Bonica still/again.
Judi, thanks about Royal Bonica, but one is all I've got room for. It's enormous. Diane
Royal Bonica from Hortico 2013
Erasmus - good job on getting some well grown roses!! Maybe I'll try them again next year.
Diane - absolutely incredible!!!! What a winner!
I’m so happy that they are getting things together and sending out roses!
Wow that color is gorgeous!
I'm so glad to hear that things are improving, however, the massive drama and the number of people who say they still haven't received plants they paid for make this vendor a solid "no" for me.
