Olychick I too am conflcted about such a final step but also recognize it as individual’s own choice to end their life.
Selfishly, I’d like any person who would make a goose raincoat to remain on the planet as long as possible just to elevate the tone of the rest of the population.
OMG, that is a hoot. I might use something like that for say, wrapping paper for a certain person ...but not for an "installation."
I don't want to sound scoldy but it's not a good idea. For example, very dear friends of ours have a child who went into rehab for alcoholism earlier this year, and I would hate for them to open our bar and see this. Maybe if they were toasting instead of chugging from a bottle of hard liquor, IDK. YMMV
A few months ago DH and I were watching something old, don't recall what it was. I said to him it made me realize how much being drunk used to be played for laughs. There was that one comedian who basically made a living out of slurring words and hiccuping, forget his name. I don't know if it was ever very funny, but it seems dumb now.
I believe animals know when someone has saved them and can become very devoted because of that.
I am the one who adopted our two cats from a home where the owner had died and the caregiver and the daughters couldn’t take them. I picked them up the day before they would have gone to the shelter, the daughters were so relieved for the cats. Do they appreciate me? No. One became my son’s devoted companion (and life ring when life was hard), the other is DH’s devoted ”dog”. They ignore me, rarely let me pet them, even though I am the one who washes their dishes, buys their food and treats, cleans the litter box…oh, wait, just like kids.
Happy birthday, my friend!
Thank you all! I had a nice day! ❤️😎
I won't be celebrating until Friday but then I am a Birthday WEEK kind of gal!
I hope your day was filled with love and joy!
My marriage is a second one for both of us. We're celebrating seven years in October.
We each do our own laundry (he is better at it than I am, btw)
He empties the dw because he knows I abhor that job.
I do the vacuuming and clean the bathrooms because he wouldn't notice they needed cleaning
I take out the trash, he brings the empty cans back
We both cook
We both grocery shop.
Yard work is from a landscaping company, but I putter around the gardens
We're each responsible for our own car upkeep
He pays most of the bills and does the taxes
I do all the house maintenance scheduling
Neither of us makes the bed
If he leaves a dirty pan on the stove, I'll wash it. I do it because I know he doesnt' expect me to.
Our life together works because we want to do nice things for each other.
Oh, and I will use the term "Ladies" at Longwood when addressing more than one woman. If it is a mixed gender group I might say "folks". No one seems to mind.
I quoted jojoco from 2 days ago. She nailed it!
@jojoco Same! I was telling DH about this thread and quoted Jojo too!
I hate everything about it.
I strongly suspect no one plays the piano in that house. I grew up in a serious piano-playing home and the lid was almost never up (probably due to all the music books on the lid.) The piano feels like an expensive prop here.
But yes, I did find something I love here. The Lacanche stove. I would sell my soul for a stove like that.
Lars, you are correct that the flood risk is high. I noticed that along with the incredibly low property taxes (compared to ours).
Owner's quote: "“We didn’t want something that was going to fall out of favor..."
No fear of that! It's already out of favor! I agree with most of what's been said, that it is way too ornate, too much like a palace or museum or public space than a home that feels cozy. The marble bath tub got me as it'd never get warm enough to be usable. But I suspect this house had nothing to do with being practical or useful. Not surprised that they want to sell it. What makes me think they're moving into a 2500 sq ft colonial???
Since it looked like I was giving an update, I decide to do just that. As far as my hair goes, I’ve kind of let it go feral. And I’m fine with that. It’s got browns and whites and grays and probably looks odd to some, but I like it. Every so often I get tempted togo back to Brown with blonde highlights but then I remember how much I hate the upkeep so I don’t.
Life has been busy with family and work and travel. I’ll start an update thread one of these days.
This was taken a couple months ago
Jojo - I'm so glad you posted an update! Your hair looks great and so natural. I think the fact that it has different tones adds interest. I still color mine every 3-4 weeks and it would be a shock to my system if I stopped - at this point my hair is all white. it reminds me of Barbara Bush, the elder.
And congrats on the newest addition to your family. That's a really nice photo - relaxed and happy.
Looking good, Jo. Ill go natural one of these days.
Hope you enjoyed your visit with Compumom and her DH. I hada fun lunch with them the day before.
So pretty!
Nice arrangement and I really like the choice of frames.
