@Marlorena

Just like to know if you are familiar with 'Buff Beauty' and it's growing habits.

I do actually have it growing in a pot already and very impressed I have been with it so far (3rd season coming up), but I'd like to buy another one and grow it as a climber to replace my 'Graham Thomas'. Have you any knowledge as to whether it would actually work as a climber, with it's canes tied onto a trellis.

This is it last year but growing as a shrub in a rather relaxed arching manner.

Love the purple coneflower and rudbeckia. I wish the coneflower did better for me here and reseeded well in my garden. it’s so lovely. Also love the Rozanne geranium. I saw it online and wanted to order it, but I have had a couple mail order perennials not do well (Jeannie Phlox I bought two for my pollinator garden, one full sun one part sun, and it fried in the heat in both sites. also tried baby joe pye weed.. what else? I’ve sent many plants to plant heaven. One year I bought every single plant with a butterfly logo on it for my butterfly garden. haha no space in between for them to grow. Most of it did not do well. It looked very pretty for a little while.

I think Winter storm Uri killed almost all of this. This was many years ago.

this is the mood board / vision board for my backyard garden. it really doesnt look much like this at all (yet). slowly tearing out more lawn. I like the Roses to be the focal point of the palette.

I am slowly learning you have to see a little bit of mulch between plants 😜

@Nollie in Spain Zone9, It is wield, isn’t it? In US we cannot find rose Claude Monet which was bred in US. I hope someday Bolero will be available again in Europe for you. And your Munstead Wood is breath taking

@rosecanadian, thanks! Bolero is really a darling. It is still a baby plant (coming from HCR last month) so I hope it focusing on growing this season. It is barely a foot tall and the bloom is 4.5”!

Nollie, one of my neighbors has what I’m pretty sure is The Prince growing up through a small dying ash tree. He’s quite awkwardly charming with those lanky limbs and beautiful dark blooms.

After being neck to neck for weeks it seems Louis Odier and Summer Romance have tied for next place in my garden after Felicia.

Louise Odier, her pot is way too small and she’s almost defoliated at the moment from BS but packed with buds despite it and smells heavenly. She is getting repotted this weekend and should be much happier after that.

Summer Romance, already showing signs of too much sun stunting the blooms, last year I had it in afternoon shade and that helped. I‘ve since moved it back to that location and I think it will be happier once I can get it in the ground. Its not a great candidate for a pot pet, that’s for sure!

Artist, ’Rose envy across the pond’ sounds like a great topic for a new thread! It’s especially frustrating when a rose bred in your own country/continent is only available the other side of the world.

Awkwardly charming is the perfect description of The Prince, Heather. Two gorgeous blooms you have there!

@Diane Brakefield Diane, you need to propagate your gnomes. Marry them off and encourage large families? lol. We could all use some on the forums.

Artist, I wonder if your link to your photos on Google exceeds the size limit for this site? They have an option to post pics at the bottom of each new thread, and they definitely get downsized to fit (size obviously, but also quality). Normal links to various websites seem to work fine, but those are just URLs.

I had a bout of my new threads not posting (for a couple of days) about 6 months ago. It was like Diane described; I could see them but no one else. Plus, it wouldn't accept any of my comments on existing threads either. The only thing I could figure was that I had posted too much the day before, and/or that I had mentioned the v word (the thing you get to prevent disease) when Diane was battling shingles and we were discussing it. I didn't post anything for a couple of days, and it went away. Weird.

Galadriel,

I think Golden Opportunity is awesome, with quality repeat like no other, I’m glad you are going to get one.

Dianela,

Thanks for the compliement,

, but your own garden is incredible, especially those magnificent climbers on pillars and those robust groupings of Austins. I feel like we are looking a an arboretum with those beautiful statues too.

Feiy,

I love your beautiful garden as well, I think we have the same garden style, squeeze in a riot of color wherever we can!

Magpie,

Thanks for the eloquent and kind words, we should do the most and be happy with what we’re given

Sultry,

LOL, those dogs have a mind of their own and they are so determined to get their own crazy agenda done!

Soozie,

Little dogs make the best garden buddies.

Moses,

Thank you, always appreciate your wisdom and humor.

Pink rose,

Thanks much, I’m happy for others to see my garden, it is a blessing to be able to do so.

Carol,

Thank you , I think you’d like Neptune, it was my Texas neighbors favorite, she just called it that wonderufl purple rose that smells like lemons.

Wow so much beauty in one spot !!!!

Personally I have a soft spot for the modern high centered form roses so your front rose garden is my favorite . But I can appreciate the complexity and variety of the back rose garden , so many colors & forms & growth habits from all over the world .

Especially love your : Golden Opportunity , Abe Darby , Constance ,The Impressionist , Juliet .

My first bud is just now starting to form on CT. I can hardly wait! It bloomed last year, and the color was unbelievable. But I'm hoping for blooms that are more full this year, that look more like yours, Jeri.

EDIT: That reminds me, I need to make a new tag for Clara, as she's no longer "angry", lol.

We've had such a cold spring, she's taking forever to open, but I' think I'm gonna like her a lot.

Thank you for comments so far. I'm in central ohio which they say is now zone 6 but i still consider it a 5. I guess my main concerns were the brown cane and the brownish streak on the larger cane. I do see a few bud eyes on the rose so maybe there is hope yet.

I might prune the brown cane off. I think it should make it.

I have one flourishing in essentially full shade with a ton of buds. It is under open sky but the sun beams never really directly hit it due to the position of the building next-door. I didn't have space for it in the fall so just stuck it in a pot in a holding pattern until spring, and am really sort of amazed it seems so happy in that spot (so it's staying there). Very few roses would seem to bloom like that with so little direct sun? I feel that both my own root and grafted ones are taking off with little effort on my part. (In Europe, there is different rootstock than in the US). For the moment, they are short and bushy, so good for the front of a border (or a pot).

Just a heads up that they've added some own-root, one-gallon non-exclusives to their website for $45. You have to click on each variety to see if it's available as an own-root.

The first bloom on my J'Adore rose opened, and I'm a bit concerned it's not the correct variety, especially given all the talk about their Arizona grower not labeling all the plants. It's pink on the outside with a creamy yellow center, and it looks more to me like the Paradise Beach rose they offered. I'm hesitant to contact GRF since it's the first bloom on a young plant. Can anyone else who is growing J'Adore speak to whether this bloom looks right? The pictures of J'Adore all show pink-centered blooms with white around the edges.

Whoa - strange weather indeed, Melissa. I hope the cold won't spoil your spring blooming season.

RBEHS - thank you for sharing your gorgeous roses. They look pretty magnificent to me, despite the weather. Even scruffy Dr Rouges has his appeal. I don't see any grey on your Irene Bonnet. Pink roses can get a little bit ho-hum IMO, but not IB. I love her two-tone thing. And what a great colour is Erinnerung too, so sultry. Bon Silene looks as if he would like to climb up into that tree and touch the sky.

I have not had issues with balling, I think my climate (hot summer mediterranean) is not so different from yours, but of course weather on specific days can be quite variable. In general I would not say this is a rose that tends to ball, petals are stiff and center is not super tight. I hope your future blooms clear up once your weather warms up (but then you will wish for rain!)
