All of the dogs I’ve had in my life had been fine with cats, mostly Rotties. The dogs in my extended family all seem to treat cats just like another family member. They visit each others homes with no issues. I had to evacuate for a storm once with my dog and I wound up at my SIL house who has two cats. One is a Siamese rescue who turned out to be mostly blind. My dog was on the couch when that cat got brave enough to come out and visit with us. My SIL kept saying, he has no idea there is a dog here, I didn’t believe her 😂 That cat must have jumped 5 feet when it walked up in the dog. It was actually funny. Poor Lennon 😂 This little pointer mix I have now caught a bunny once but she thinks cats are family, not prey. Dogs usually rise to your level of expectation anyway. I love dogs and cats. Been thinking about getting a cat lately.
I had to fly a friend down once to house sit my two Rotties. She had to bring her two cats. They were in the same room on day two, zero issues.
When I placed animals we had a rule that you couldn't adopt a cat that was not going to be kept indoors. Some of the cats that were turned in or picked up didn't use a litter box. No one was going to adopt these cats and keep them in their home if they didn't use a litter box. We had people who wanted to adopt a barn cat. I would tell the potential adopters the rules before they filled out the paperwork so they knew to say it would be kept as an indoor cat. (Kept in the barn). Saved the cat from living for years in a 2" x 2" kennel or getting euthanized. Keeping animals in shelters indefinitely is not a good life either. Many animals cannot cope with the stress of being in a shelter environment and become kennel crazed. They may shut down or become aggressive or self destructive.
Knowing the common rule for cats, you coached the prospective adopters to stretch thr truth (i.e. lie) in order to get around that rule. In all your experience with dogs, surely you knew shelter commonly require a fenced in yard. It dodn’t occur to you to lie?
Frito Pie. The story here is that it originated at the Woolwort’s lunch counter on the Plaza here in Santa Fe. Chile con carne, cheese, chopped onions over an open singles bag of Fritos Corn Chips Still loved by many!
Lynn, they call those walking tacos now.

BTW, neighbor's trees are Kiett mangos - really huge and sweet, smooth textured fruits with very little maintenance.
I was in the passenger seat today so I was able to take few photos of the mangos I was parked under the other day. These photos should impress the new Floridian enough to pick the right variety. There are two trees on the corner. One has a double trunk and a palm next to it, the other is a single trunk. This is Stuart FL.
another angle.
Check out the sign on the tree that asks not to throw things at the mangos. Notice the size of the trunk in relation to that normal sized patio chair. These trees are huge! And basically un-pickable..
There are some broad assumptions being made here that medical insurance equates to medical care. Many care options are flat out denied and/or partially covered. The out of pocket $$$ even with insurance does not work for many ill people. I chose to purchase medications (for my elderly Mom) out of pocket via Canada because it made more sense financially. That is because we have no policies in the United States to compel the pharmaceutical industry to make generic versions for Americans just like they make for the rest of the world. The policies here allow them to sell us a name brand bottle of pills for $900 when I can buy generic via other countries for less than $100. Generic was approved here in 2019. The policies do not make them offer to us, so they don’t.
Currently the corporations write the American Policies. Due to $$$
Does everyone here consider Citizens United to be public policy? I do!
A policy that screwed the American public. BIG time!
Unlimited dark money could be the ruin of the United States if we don’t snap out of it.
That’s the collective We The People. Fingers crossed 💜
We have an amazing farmer’s market. Vendors are restricted to local produce with the exception of two larger stands that can bring in things grown in other parts of the state. Eastern Washington has a very different climate than ours, so they grow things that can’t be grown as well locally. Asparagus, artichokes, melons, sweet cherries (WA produces the most in the USA), many varieties of apples and pears. There are a few craft vendors, but the market is very selective for high quality so there isn’t junk.
Thursdays, the vendors give a senior discount and all vendors take food stamps/EBT. The two large fruit stands give free apples to kids. I am unsure how prices compare because I don’t (luckily) have to pay attention and am willing to try to support our local farmers.

I agree about the need for more vocational training opportunities. I don't think available programs and schools, and there are many, are at capacity as is. One problem is that the interest in and decision to enter vocational training requires more than short-range thinking. And a degree of maturity that many recent high school grads or dropouts lack. It should be a no-brainer - many are not cut out or interested in academic advancement, vocational training leads to satisfying and well-paying jobs with lifelong career opportunities.
Nothing happens until the interested person walks in a door, dials a phone number or connects on a website. Point the finger at parenting failures, not political or public ones.

Dedtired, was that you? And hopefully not recently?
So I know nothing about hearing aids, however, just today I was researching the new Apple Airpod Pro. I was very surprised to see people reviewing them as an affordable hearing aid alternative. They are on sale at Costco for $199. I was just looking for headphones when I tripped over this information. I will link an article that talks about it.
I just went to the hearing aid center UHC assigned me to. They said they pay 80% after deductible. $3K was the quote after a brief hearing test. Tomorrow I will make an appt with Costco. I just read they give you a 6 month trial period!
Chisue, i love your posts. 😊
You know, I could have sworn I found info about the possible suicidal ideation on Ozempics website. It turns out it was drugs.com and the other brand Wegovy. Ozempic is currently in full denial making as much as they can while they can. Discussing this has pointed me to an FDA site medwatch, where you can report stuff like this. I will check into reporting it. Since this was the first suicide intervention I was ever involved in, I feel like I should speak up. So many people are using this as a quickie diet drug now. I hope people are paying attention.
My father used to mock health nuts mercilessly until he developed an autoimmune condition in his 30s that only a "health nut" way of life holds at bay, keeping it in remission. Now he mercilessly mocks processed food eaters 😂
“It turns out it was drugs.com and the other brand Wegovy.”
@JoanM - Just saw a Wegovy commercial and they listed it as a possible side effext.
toronto vet: haha, i know it is but i am a 'what if' person. so that starts to add up!!
but i am being very selective in my clothing and accessories!! we are going to do laundry, so that really helps!!!
one pair of good walking shoes
one pair of sandals, if the weather warms up
another sneaker if sandals don't seem possible!!
for me, its not really the clothes that kill me, its the accessories/toiletries!!
If toiletries are a problem, check out this pack flat bag. It holds a lot and is easy to use. I have gifted this to many people over the years.
In case I wasn’t the only one looking for the Nigella cookie recipe.
Reporting back! Everything went off without a hitch. Except for the cookies lol. The night-before-prepped salmon is an amazing recipe. Recipe universally requested. The salad is delicious, and so pretty plated with the salmon—pistachios across both.
The Cookies. Piled high on a pedestal. Gorgeous. Martini glass filled with berries and piped almond whipped cream set on a pretty dessert plate, cookie on side of plate. Delicious.
But they baked up a bit crispier than the test batch (weather?) and crumbled when bitten into. Also, in my exuberance I sprinkled more chocolate on the top than on the test batch, and it was coming off on our hands. Luckily I had employed my trick of tucking a real-feel paper napkin inside my cloth napkins, rolling them together into the napkin ring. All around me I saw linen trousers and white dresses, chocolatey hands, and thankfully chocolate laden paper napkins carefully resting on top of the barrier cloth napkins, keeping the chocolate off the pretty outfits.
Still, everyone ate their entire cookie, right down to the crumbs. We all eyed the pedestal. We all thought about it. I ate a few more after everyone left. Not sure I'd serve them again like this. They were amazing in the test Modified Eton Mess. I would go that route next time.
@mtnrdredux_gw, they taste more pistachio than cardamom. It's a simple recipe so I think it's worth trying. They'll be a staple for me, but I'll only sprinkle pistachios on top, no chocolate.
As a recipe note, I used half the amount of chocolate called for, and instead of chips I grated a 60% dark chocolate bar. I used a heavy hand when measuring the pistachio.
I whipped the cream early in the morning, filled a disposable piping bag and stood it in a glass in the fridge. Right before serving I snipped the bag, put the tip on, and no muss, easy peasy filled the martini glasses.
Thanks for playing along everyone! Wish I could send you all a care package of Forgotten Cookies!
@sheilajoyce_gw, is this the recipe? https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/3875953/giant-chocolate-chip-cookie#n=8
I have not joined the digital wallet crowd yet. I don’t have any issue managing my credit card or my passwords for the sites where I shop. Their pitch seems to be that you just use your email address to shop and they will be storing your card numbers and passwords for you as their service. They manage your digital wallet to make it easier for you to shop. They then keep that data for 7 years. Paze is a new company so I would NOT be among the first to use it. I would opt out before I was forced into it.
Some people love digital wallets.
I wouldn't want to use Paze or Zelle, Vemo or PayPal My bank offers Zelle but I don't want to use it. I really don't like using my checking/debit card for many things. I use one cc for auto billing and monthly bills and pay off every month. I feel cc offer more protection on unauthorized charges and I can turn them off easily if needed. I use a different cc for gas, groceries, shopping and online shopping and pay off every month. Then I don't have to worry about someone getting my checking account compromised. I may get a third cc for any larger items that I have to wait to access money to pay in full. Like new a/c or furnace, something major... but maybe not.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I do use Paypal sometimes, but I don't see any advantage in joining Paze. I got a note from Chase this morning, they received my request not to opt in and said they would not opt me in.
I suspect that cloaking credit card numbers this way will ultimately help the consortium of large banks using Paze to help manage credit card fraud and I'm all for that, but I don't want to be an involuntary guinea pig for a program that doesn't seem like it is going to be of service for me.
