Thank you, all, this helps. I know it will be ok; it's just hard. One of MY favorite memories of all time is when I saw an ad on Craigslist quite a few years ago by a woman looking for help to make a raincoat for a rescued goose whose feathers had all fallen out on her back. My friend's mom is an extraordinary sewist, quilter, embroiderer, etc. Museum level stuff. She had just moved here from Boston to live close to her daughter, and wasn't yet too busy, so I mentioned the ad to her. She was ALL in! I drove her to the rescue and she took measurements and sewed the most amazing raincoat for the goose She thought it was a hoot and we couldn't stop laughing about it. I think the local paper ran a story about it, but I can't find it in the archives. I can't believe I don't have a picture of the final coat, but this was the pattern she made that she was trying on at one of the goose fittings. :)

So, I imagine we'll have a good laugh at this memory!

Oh, golly, @Olychick, what a great story. I’ve lost two dear friends who were in their 90’s recently and another is in hospice care. It can be a little awkward to start the conversation, but you can tell her that you were thinking of her and wanted to take the opportunity to thank her for bringing joy to your life, both as an individual and as the one who raised your best friend. I’m sure she will direct the conversation from there.

It seems that you have a good number of photos covering the most important aspects of the house. If you do not include a walk-through and buyers are interested they can have their realtor do a Facetime walk-through with them. This is how we bought our vacation house, homes were selling immediately and we could not get there as quickly as needed, we made an offer after our Facebook tour.

@nicole___ this place is in a more rural area, in the deep woods on a lake - it's not really lit up so night photos aren't very popular here. Met with the realtor today and she had no problem with my choice of photos, or any of my other feedback, and astutely suggested that maybe I wanted to be involved in writing the verbiage for the listing. So I gave her my input, she will write it and I will review/edit. Coming soon is popular around here so it will be coming soon in a week and listing will go live a few days after that. I've gotten several professional opinions on the listing price, which seems high to me, but we will go with that to start as DH is in agreement with it. However we won't dawdle to reduce the price if needed depending on feedback. We have four months to get this done before we head south again. Step one - get it sold. Step two - get rid of everything that's still left here. Should be interesting.....

MIL took in a cute little calico that was hanging around her friend’s complex. She was already spayed so had been a TNR. It took her a long time to come out of the bathroom, but now she curls up in MIL’s lap. Meet Daisy! She’s maybe about a year and a half old by now.

Got to admit, it is a strange one. At least I don't fall asleep like I do for a lot of TV shows.

Sorry you didn't get the puppy. When I was looking for a new dog I found out there are a lot of flakes out there. So decided to go through the local SPCA or shelters so I wouldn't have to deal with the flakes. Goo d luck on your search.

Agree with the comments about kitchen and mismatched interior, but would be willing to move-in and work to fix the issues. Just love the tree house feel and view of the bay.

I also very much dislike the kitchen - I need lots of upper cabinets, and the only ones I see are part of the black hutch, which also is not attractive.

I love love the idea of an old hutch standing in for a run of cabs.

The exterior is very beautiful, but I don't especially like the interior - it seems very bland and lifeless,

Here we agree. The exterior is mission or craftsman, isn't it? They lose the thread inside. Need warmer colors. I knew we were in trouble when I saw the entry chandy.

Exterior and setting are magic.

The exterior and the views are gorgeous. I didn’t care for the overall floor plan. It looked too disjointed. And i agree the kitchen didn’t look functional with big hulk of black looming over the white island. I normally love a piece of cabinetry or an old hutch too, but this looks out of place with the rest of the kitchen.

For a personal meal, I use these pasta bowls that are part of my everyday use dishes.

They are about 9” in diameter.

This time I don’t have a bargain, but I do have a ”kill”. Here’s the story in pictures.

Have been on the hunt for at least four years for a Yves Saint Laurent top that matches a skirt that was given to me. It’s by Tom Ford and from the Fall 2001 Gypsy Collection. I’ve found a few that were all too small, until last week when one popped up on eBay.

This is my inspiration board with the blouse. I’ve looked with various degrees of focus and a few weeks ago, a little voice said “up the intensity”.

The blouse on eBay. If you don’t know, it’s underwhelmimg.

My skirt

The outfit

The outfit on the cover of Vogue (which I also own).

And there is not enough room to show my smile! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

For me, the internet is what has affected finding good deals for antiques and vintage things, not ”rich” people.

A favorite place of ours to shop for furniture and decor is a local antique mall. I used to find so many great deals there, but now sellers see bloated prices for similar items on Chairish, 1stDibs, etc, and use them as their guide. I would, too, I’m not angry at them … I just miss my good deals. :)

My DD and SIL bought their first house last year. They looked and looked for an older fixer-upper, but all were out of their price range. They ended up buying a mid-century house from a flipper and are actually planning to add some of the old character back.

Carharrt (and Dickies) are a big thing in my area; I don’t find the prices have gone up from normal.

I love our farmers market and same as above — the prices are still reasonable.

I’ve been married twice, and in both cases chores have been done equally. No paid help.

Both husbands and I enjoyed/enjoy all things house and yard related, including shopping.

Addressing me as ladies, gals, guys, you guys, y’all, etc doesn’t bother me in the least. I use those terms myself when appropriate.

One thing I will say, is that every marriage is different and as long as both people feel loved and valued, any old way of divvying up life's chores and duties is fine.

We had 100% totality in NNY with thin, high clouds. The second pic is during totality, it looked like a sunset in the sky, but facing due north.

what an interesting experience. As partial totality approached, the temperature dropped and the birds were silent. The clouds parted enough to see it . It was clear for the beginning and end. Here’s a photo i took through my glasses near the beginning

We had a long-planned trip to Kentucky and then to Ohio to see some of DH’s childhood friends before we realized it was the week of the eclipse. We really got lucky and saw the total eclipse in a small town that was celebrating big. As science geeks it was really neat to see and observe what happened around us. The town set off a few fireworks in the distance when it got completely dark.

This was my best photo with a filter i ordered especially for my phone. I didn’t take many, we just observed and yes, we saw the diamond ring effect. DH had a welder’s mask which was cool to use too.

Also from So Cal. Keep hearing good things about Aldi but it has not done much for me, despite visiting a number of times, trying to figure out what I am missing. A few house brand items that I tried were okay, others were ”meh” and the three things I actually thought were good they discontinued. I have not done a direct comparison between Aldi and Trader Joe’s, as Trader’s is not my main store. Also, Aldo is triple the distance of Trader’s or the other stores that I use most often, so that likely plays into my lack of interest in shopping at Aldi.

I recall reading an article about their hiring practices that explained the qualities they look for in potential employees - big ones being extroversion and positivity.

My opinion of Aldi gets worse every day. There have been a number of threads on their Aisle of Shame Facebook page dealing with the rubber mulch they sell. By far, the majority are negative. And for good reason; that's some nasty stuff! Threads are often closed by moderation and some of the more truthful posts are deleted.
