I did one coat of the bin as well and it turned out great; however, i had one coat of BM primer and one coat of Advance previously on the surface before using the bin. I also rolled the bin but sprayed my Advance. I did use a roller on the cabinet frames though and they turned out nice. I used (based on recommendation) a quality Wooster roller cover with low nap (preferably 1/4").

We recently repainted a whole floor of our house clad in wall to ceiling Victorian beadboard that was stained dark brown. After extensive research and testing we did two coats of BIN through a Graco sprayer followed by two coats of Behr semi gloss Latex. It came out beautifully with zero sanding. 10 months later no bleed through. Yes, the shellac is a little brittle compared to latex or oil: once or twice we’ve bashed something sharp into the trim and the finish chipped. But its an easy repair. You absolutely positively need a top quality NIOSH respirator if you’re going to spray BIN. I thought an N95 and some fans would be enough. Ended up high as a kite and my heart pounding. Don’t do it.

Recently we had a professional painter in to do some more work on shellac Victorian trim on a different floor. Ignored my advice and used STIX on the trim. What a mess: the dark stain bled right through. Now we have STIX followed by BIN followed by BM Advance. We’ll see how it holds up.
