We get to experience all four seasons where I live. I absolutely love extra tall ceilings, especially when I peak my head out of my blanket to gaze up longingly at my heat.
I've worked with a lot of appraisals, and have never seen a homes value reduced or increased based on ceiling height. Neighborhood, square footage, number of rooms, age and condition are standards.
I have only ever had 8' ceilings and the only time it seems too low is when my one friend comes to visit who happens to be 7'4" tall. He's pretty adept at ducking through doorways and avoiding light fixtures, but I understand why he wanted taller ceilings in his own home.
@Jennifer Hogan…. agree, higher ceilings don’t necessarily mean better resale value,. It’s LOCATION that makes for better ( or higher ) resale value. My home with 8’ ceilings is located in a very sought after desirable location & would sell for much more $ ( almost a million $ more) than my much larger, newer home with 12’ celings …
I am loving my new end table aka desk in our sitting room. (On the left under the windows.) Solid vintage oak. $75.
(The little stool under the front window was also a deal at $25 a couple of years ago.)
From the FB listing:
Nope. That looks to me to be a fiberglass door & wood sidelite. Actually looking at the inside picture, these are two different systems already. The sidelite and frame is completely separate from the door. I do not think that door ever truly has a matching sidelite. I would get a full length clear glass sidelite. But I would also think long and hard about replacing the entire you as it is obviously quite old and not installed properly
Where I live, wood-look vinyl is put in all levels of homes. You nearly have to beg the flooring guys to show you something different. If you're concerned about resale, look at the flooring in homes for sale in your price range in your area. I suspect many have LVP.
I think your home is quite lovely. I would change the door color and get professional landscaping/hardscaping. It will be stunning!
I like Beverly’s limewash suggestion in your case.
not black, something light, like linen or a cotton slub.
I would do cream, not black. You need to have some fullness though, or else they won't look right. So if something full covers up too much of the window area for your taste, skip it. The console in front of the windows looks out of place.
What is it that is being strikeded to require a strike plate?
I wash all jeans after every wearing…in warm water with just detergent. Many of them are 10-12 years old, and they are still in great shape. I cannot imagine not washing them!
Carole, please explain...I don't get it. I looked up "Ode to Haggis" but didn't think it applied here, lol.
You can stain all the wood any color stain you like. To me, the dark brown walnut family would work well with your (very adorable) house. Then get fabulous pillows with a fun fabric for any surface that one can sit on. (I’m looking at the big box on the right and seeing a tufted seat cushion there already). Outdoor fabrics can be bright and lively and fun.
Gray sounds depressing for outside furniture IMO. I have black framed furniture with blue stretched nylon. One lounge chair needed a cushion so I went to At Home and got a fun green-white-blue lounge cushion. It’s my favorite.
