Timelessness, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.
For example, natural or whitewashed maple flooring can be timeless. Natural finished white oak can be timeless. And medium brown or dark brown red oak can be timeless. And on it goes...:-)
I know hardwood floors are more "rich" looking, but my dogs did a number on mine showing some significant wear after 3 years. When we sold that house and I was remodeling our current house, I followed the advice of a good friend and put high end engineered wood throughout the house. I love it! The dogs have had no impact on it; they clean super easy; and I love them. I went with a medium brown tone and while it might look timeless, I sometimes wish I had gone for the newer lighter color and kept the white cabinets that were in the house. Maybe next time.
