My vest arrived and I think iit will be the perfect layer over a turtleneck or sweater by itself or with a raincoat. I have a black raincoat lined in khaki and the vest is a sort of putty color. i haven’t yet tried the two together but put it on over my knit turtleneck sweater (today was briskly windy). It comes just past the waist and is boxy, which I like, and buttons, which makes it look more like a regular vest.

It is not puffy at all. I bought an 8 and could easily have sized down to a 6 as the cut is

generous, but wanted to be able to wear a shirt and sweater underneath it. i will be taking this to Scotland in my black / cream/ gray/ camel 10 day wardrobe. By a happy coincidence it looks great with my bone leather oxfords (which I am not taking: rain, mud).

I would try the Nic & Zoe style but the sizes they have left are too big :(

Also, The EF pants are now problematic for me. I have donated probably 10 pair over the last year. I wear a size small in everything but length, they are often just a hair too short. I’ll try Nordy and J Jill…I used to love J Jill’s cropped linen slacks and linen shirts but the design, fit and quality have taken a long tumble over the past ten years. I try to buy new condition J Jill vintage when I can find it, which is rare now as I suppose everyone has the same idea!

So Funky, I have just come out of an Old Navy store where I returned my online purchases. I looked around and saw the same pants and learned a few things. #1 The pants in different colors are made in different fabrics. All linen (I guess) but different weights. #2 The black pants and the gray and white striped ones were the flimsiest. #3 The oatmeal colored ones in the store seemed better than the ones I returned so I tried them on in a smaller size after checking the hems on a dozen pairs. The ones I tried on fit, the hems hang as they are supposed to and the length off the small size is just a tad cropped on me, whoch is fine. All of the other colors were made of a much lighter fabric and Idid not even try them. I ALSO found a cute white skirt with a long smocked waist for our beach trip, it’s almost ankle length and, miraculously, not see through. I also found two pair of exercise pants for the gym on sale, so the trip was a success. The pants and skirt were all size XS, which tells me their vanity sizing is out of control. I did try on a pair of the WoW jeans while I was there; their 6 was a good fit except that it was almost two inches too long. 🤔 I am now wondering exactly what kind of stilletto heels people are wearing with those light wash jeans!

I wore my MJ’s to a fundraising meeting this morning and am wearing them to shop this afternoon. They are padded and comfy! A nude or light tan belt helps tie it all together:

(Bbstx that is an unstructured white linen blazer I found last week. I don’t think you can tell in the photo but it has panels of white ribbed cotton inset on both sides that gives it vertical princess type seams and therefore a great fit.)

I also wore these shoes to a piano concert with dressy black shorts and a nude light sweater over the same black top.

I could probably find a way to wear these shoes three times a week, and they aren't nearly as versatile as the ones Bbstx wants.

That seems sensible^

I bought a pair of shoes from poshmark that were designated as used but were pristine, the bottoms of the shoes had obviously never touched pavement. They looked like someone tried them on and never actually wore them, and I thought well in a shoe store you’re trying on stuff other people have tried on. 🤷‍♀️

LOL! Same, Mtn! I am 60 as of this morning-- and I don't do anything special for my aging skin. I moisturize (cerave or oil of olay) and use sunscreen but that is pretty much it. I have tried hydroboost and a number of other more expensive products but I didnt notice any changes and didnt care for how a number of them felt or smelled.

Like others shared, people are often surprised by my age -- *I* see the effects of aging on my skin but when I am well rested and hydrated, others don't seem to. I guess it is a combination of genetics and the extra pounds i carry. But I too wonder if I will wake up one day and suddenly have wrinkles and age spots. Perhaps I SHOULD be using more products than I am.

And a question for you, bb: are you doing laser for sunspots/melasma? I have been using retin A and hydroquinone and still my spots are here. Grrr.

I agree with you about all urban cities are changing.

Two different types of vacations going or being.

  • Going to Japan - lots of things on my list
  • Being in Paris - light list of more obscure places

Both trips have value while the experiences are vastly different.

Impressive, kswl! But, yeah, I don't do great with tracking either-- I am very competitive even if only with myself. You'd think that would be helpful in managing what I am eating but I get super obsessive and critical and often end up eating less than I should which doesn't help me in the long run. What works best for me is to track for a limited time (1-2 weeks) which helps me get into a groove and then I back off.

I have been focused on fiber for many years-- it really does make a difference in appetite management and in keeping my digestive system moving. As I have mentioned before, I don't restrict carbs but I do focus on the nutrient rich, high fiber complex carbs. And good thing for me, I generally prefer them to the simple carbs!

As for getting rest and a bit of a break, I appreciate the thoughts and wishes ... the good news is that things will ease up sooner than expected. The bad news is that they will ease up sooner because my deadline was moved from Friday to EOD Wed (due to a newly added request to have the CIO review my submission). Today and tomorrow are going to be long research/writing days -- and the person I need to work with is unexpectedly OOO today. I am determined to finish strong ... but really, I can only laugh at this point. I will be working well into the night on my birthday! I just cancelled my birthday dinner and I had already postponed my birthday trip later this week. What a way to ring in 60. I am considering this a serious wake-up call to find more work-life balance in my coming year.

Yuck on those changes Funky. That's kind of a bummer. I know a lot of people really don't care about their actual birthday, but I always like to have some plan, so I'm sorry your work is hindering your celebrations!

kswl- that is some seriously impressive tracking! Good for you.

I don't track calories, although I think a couple weeks of tracking would be good for me to see what my maintenance calories are, so maybe I can lose some more weight one day. But I do eyeball the protein and fiber throughout the day, mostly just trying to incorporate my meals around them in some way. @feathers - with all those veggies, I bet you do get to your goal!

I'm halfway through A Visit From the Goon Squad, Jennifer Egan, and enjoying it very much. This and The Corrections are literature catch-ups for me, taken from a list of Great American Novels in The Atlantic. I can't argue about these being truthful portrayals of their times, but the overall feeling of a 'national shallowness' is discouraging. 4 Stars.

Steve Cavanaugh's Kill For Me, Kill For You is a mystery within mysteries. There are twists within twists. Neither DH nor I saw the ending coming. It's icky-good. We only caught one slip from this Dublin author who sets all his plots in NYC. (An elevator was a 'lift'.) 4 Stars if you're game.

I also like my pasta bowls for my entree salads that include meat ... but my favorite for entree salads are these 8" Blanda bowls from Ikea. They are large but I like that!

I have smaller bowls for side salads ... or I add to my dinner plate.

ETA for parties or more than 2, I have a very large salad bowl and a deep platter from my Sophie Conran Portmeirion set that I like to use. They are white and go with about everything.

Kitch4me, yes, similar taste!😁 The cabbage bowl is 12” wide and larger than it might look. I don’t have any small ones. This pic shows the large pasta serving bowl with the smaller bowls. The serving bowl is 13” and the 4 bowls are 10”. Definitely good sizes for pasta or salad.

After I broke one of my newer little Mikasa bowls, I realzed I also had the little individual bowls that matched the big one I posted. I think I still have one somewhere but not sure where it is. The rest are long gone. I had forgotten about them.

Mine is pretty predictable lol.. but I don't share my account with anyone else. I am sure SO's search history is ... unexpected. LOL

Searched for various Percy Jackson gifts for a newphew's birthday (we are buddy reading the book together). I purchased both

This shows up in my search history but I got there via "buy again" not a search. Annoyed that the color I wanted wasn't available in large.. added other colors to my cart but haven't purchased yet. Love these socks-- recommended here.

Searching for a gift for a coworker. Niece raves about this brand and it must be a tiktok fav because the colors are limited and the prices are jacked up. Did not purchase at more than 2x the normal cost!

Searched for the On Cloud sneakers I thought I wanted ... did not buy. Tried on locally and found chose different options that worked better for me-- but I still like the look of these.

ETA this time I went back (to get a screen shot) and it wasn't there. I think the blocks that display on the home page rotate through each time you hit the page.

hhireno, the antivomiting bowls are just bowls on a raised platform. I ended up just putting their food plate on top of a bowl Kori sometimes regurgitates when he eats too fast in the morning and shovels food into his mouth. In theory, a raised bowl improves digestion. Puzzle feeders are supposedly good too, but I haven’t found anything that looks easy to clean. Plate on bowl seems to be working this week.

Jilly, I had a black and decker mouse sander back when they first came out, but I wanted one with a dust catcher, so I donated it when we moved. I also wanted a cordless one, but the ones that exist are too expensive for my needs or have poor reviews. I ended up with another little black and decker.

At least you’re being proactive! When we went to NOLA for Mardi Gras, we left with a ridiculous assortment of beads and other prizes we caught at parades. Then we drove to Austin, and the day before we were to fly home, we realized we couldn’t fit everything in our suitcase or carryon. We had to go shopping for some kind of tote bag, and of course we ended up buying a goofy cheap bag that was fine but not something I’d travel with again. BTW, DH got pulled aside at TSA screening and had to stand there while the agent rifled through his tote bag full of Mardi Gras stuff … very entertaining for me as I watched from a distance (“I’m not with that guy.”)

This thread has made me realize I should pack an extra tote bag for our Europe trip next month.

ETA just ordered this! Bargain!

We are spending a few days on Florida's Atlantic coast in early May. Anyway, we traveled to upstate NY in Feb and reading this, I remembered my tote was an absolute airport pain. I was juggling a smaller purse and a smaller dog at times and it kept slipping down my arm, tilting when put down and spilling, even with a snap at the top. I looked at Maika, which I hadn't known about and purchased a commuter tote, not this pattern but this shape. It's coming this week and I figure it will always work for library book hauling. Thanks for the recommendation!

I did get a Maika lunch tote for DD for Christmas. I thought it was very cute! As far as I know, she is using it every day and likes it.

Another fun bag resource -- made from recycled billboards. I have bought a few of these as gifts, and have a tote that I used at our beach cottage. So fun to look at the different patterns and colors.

Lousy article. Much of it makes no sense at all, and it starts with something flatly untrue and then ignores basic economics. Typical clickbait.

Thrift stores provide much of the goods people sell on ebay, poshmark and etsy in a secondhand market economy that has existed since buying and selling began. It is now easier for people to buy what they want at lower prices online and does not prevent poorer people from shopping directly from Goodwill, Salvation Army stores and the like. A lot of that list is the natural result of an increased population and expanding economy.

adding… I no longer read articles that have a number in the heading… 10 Reasons… 20 Times Your Mother…. 15 Ways … because usually at least half the list is ridiculous Buzzfeed type fare.

Your emails won't disappear unless you literally close your account-- from what I can understand above, you just changed your password.

You should be able to go into settings on your ipad and change the password there.

The new login is still going to give you access to your account, your settings and all your emails. Think of it as replacing your front door.

More early birthday wishes Funky!! 😘🎉🎂🥳🎈🎊🎁

Sixty was a little tricky for me on several fronts. Subsequent birthdays have been NBD, but I am already thinking about the one coming up in August… 68… yes, how did THAT happen? I don’t regret a thing and would not go back for a redo if offered the chance, but still…..

You, Funky, are a very youthful, current 59 year old and I have no doubt you will continue that into your nineties ❤️

Funky, as you know I am right behind you on the big 60 and while I have some great celebration plans in place, something about ”60” is getting to me. Yikes. There’s no pretending any more, LOL, 60 just is not young. And 59 has been kinda messy for me — all sorts of new aches and pains including undiagnosed pain in one foot (after two MRIs, two cortisone shots, PT, etc., no one can agree on what the issue is) and a new pain on the opposite side of the same foot (I think I pulled? a tendon doing downward dog…kinda pathetic) — seeing my PCP for that one tomorrow. I also had a breast cancer scare a few months ago (it was nothing) and two friends diagnosed with cancer (both my age) and multiple friends’ parents dying. Just feels like there are reminders everywhere that I am getting OLD! Oh, and my skin? Ugh.

There was an incident here with some ice cream the other day. That’s all I’m gonna say about that, but it’s over now and I just had some very yummy berries with plain greek yogurt for lunch. Big salad and chicken for dinner tonight.

Exercise is spotty thanks to the foot issues. Until last week I was just carrying on with my usual outdoor walks and Peloton rides, but after this new ouchy thing, I have tried to take a break to see if rest might help. I did a couple workouts with weights last week, though, and DH has been away for a few days so I had dog-walking duty.

Barn, I heard about that greek cookbook somewhere else, too. I’m going to check it out.

Barn, I love Greek food, actually everything Mediterranean. Good luck on your food adventure. I've been laid up recently (a story for a different post) and am devouring good cooking shows on tv: ATK, Cook's Country, Milk Street, Pati, Sara Moulton, etc. Not the competitions, can't stand them.
