Algae grows on the north side of a house due to less sunlight. It has nothing to do with drainage, An annual power wash is commonly required. Don’t tile over broken concrete. Save up and replace the concrete.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

The small cement area is tucked between a breezeway wall with a door, the house wall and garage wall. It looks out over the garden and was origionally home for a hot tub that rotted and we had taken away (long story).

Anyway, there is no drainage issue. I live very close to the Atlantic and algie can and will grow where there is opprotunity and it loves this little secluded area.

Replacing the area would probaly not fix the algie issue. Power washing about every 4-5 bmonths keeps it under control.

I'm working on a plan to make it a litting sitting area with candles and plants.

Thanks again!
