Erica carnea, the winter flowering species, is slightly more tolerant of non acidic soils.
It is against a rock on the south side of the house
Also, I have no problem protecting it with frost cloth if the temp gets below -5 to -10
Guessing a clickable link to his company will be inserted soon.
Jumping into the conversation about hiring pest control for your new backyard—definitely a hot topic! From my experience, it's like nipping a problem in the bud. I've seen beautiful backyards turn into bug paradises in the blink of an eye. If you've already got your dream yard in the works, a little extra protection can go a long way.
"JacquelynSellers" has been known to spam.
An evergreen Magnolia might be an idea for one of the lawn trees, You'd need to research cultivars to get the right potetnial size.
The roses will add some pretty color. I also like the Star Jasmine. Not sure if it would grow in your zone.
It does and is doing beautifully on other those other trellises
I would surmise cock-up rather than conspiracy.
..I like the alliteration.
I had to look up that term but good to know.. visiting london for the first time next month lol
If you will provide pictures and geographical location we'll have something to go on.
I'll bite. Please post some pics of the tree so it can be identified. Pic of whole tree, also close up of leaves, trunk, flowers, seeds. And of the holes too!
Perhaps the holes are caused by borers. We don't have woodpeckers in Australia.
Crystal, if you see these posts, perhaps you could post some pictures of the tree and the holes, both close up and far away.
Not a new practice at all although it was originally used primarily by wholesalers to grow on large quantities of plants rapidly without any additional propagation delays (seeding, cuttings, etc.) For the retail market, they offer an inexpensive way to acquire and plant a quantity of the same plant far faster than if by growing from seed and without the 3-4 times expense of purchasing retail ready specimens. Landscapers use them extensively.
As with all mail order situations, there are good suppliers and less desirable ones as well as plants that are better offered in this format ad those that are not. Ornamental grasses, groundcovers and natives tend to be the plant types most offered this way.
Yes, that's Chaenomeles.
nb I did say 'dramatic' changes. Obviously you'd want to deal with weeds and invasives. But get them identified first. Many a good plant has been removed before ascertaining its garden value.
Thanks! Google images has been a real help, but it didn't catch that one.
Here's another: a ratty vine is tethered to a fence by the tool shed. It's blooming this week... Carolina jessamine?
Seems to me a pest that crawls 3 stories high should be called scale. ;-)

Winter bouquet. (January) Hellebore, snowdrop, Lonicera fragrantissima, Geranium maderense leaves.
Early March. Hyacinths and hellebores.
I only really cut flowers in winter. My garden is so microscopic I can see everything in person or from the window the rest of the year.
@karin_mt, thank you, that is very sweet of you to offer, but I truly have plenty to plant this year already. Especially with the 3 new seed packets I just bought. I keep wanting to cut back on plantings, but looking at seed packets is always dangerous. :)
Haha, yeah I hear you on that! Seed packets are just bursting with potential aren't they?
I get into trouble looking at pots. If I buy a new pot then I need some seeds or plants, and then if there are leftover seeds/plants I might want yet another pot... and the virtuous cycle continues. I love it.
If you ever change your mind on sweet peas, just let me know! I have lots and I imagine I always will in future years.
I'm gonna check out this show! Sounds intriguing!
We watched a few episodes and then Amazon crashed. The visual effects are impressive but essentially it's a computer quest game made into a movie There's a lot of stylized comic book violence and some very obvious tropes from other genres like westerns, Lord of the Ringsy stuff, sci fi, etc. Not really much depth of plot. Amazon is back up now but we'll probably not be interested enough to go back to it.
