Lars I agree that ash would also have been a beautiful choice - the house my parent built in 1960 had ash doors, baseboards, window/door trim and one room paneled in V-groove ash planks of varying width. I do love the teak in this instance and think it adds to the design as a whole, a warm counterpoint to other elements that are cool - I like the mix.

Anu Garg's Word of the Day email always ends with A Thought For Today - this one speaks directly to this house.

What a gorgeous house and setting. Love everything about it — the materials, the organic feel, the design, all of it. It’s so serene.

I could move in today and wouldn’t change a thing.

If y’all need me, I’ll be reading on my chaise, overlooking the pool.

Or in my tub, overlooking the gardens.

Thank you for sharing, Fun!

Love the pool, the big windows, the pool and of course the view.

But I really don't like anything else. Not an MCM fan. It always feels too cold/sterile to me.

Can we talk about the sliding doors opening a room to the outside? I love the concept and I love the look, but I don't know how it works in real life. Here my house would be filled with bugs, squirrels and probably birds.

Fascinating upholstery with the tufting leading into the loose falling skirt.

Patterns like that, however pretty they may be, make me dizzy. I discovered this after I wallpapered a feature wall in my bedroom in San Francisco with antique wallpaper in 1977. By this time I was getting weary of Victorian architecture as well.

This room reminds me of Laura Ashley from the 1990s, which I guess is considered retro by now. I liked that sort of style when I was a small child.

I like the sofa very much, and it reminds me of a sofa design that my boss did in 2014 that we unfortunately never produced. Her design did not have tufting, but it did have loose upholstery to the floor, and she called it the "Draped Slip Cover" Sofa. We did manufacture an almost identical coffee table, however, with a lacquered linen wrap finish.

I have a few pieces of floral fabric, very similar to what is on the chair and pillow, in my collection that I have not used yet.

The table, the mashup chandelier, and the Scalamandre Le Tigre all keep it from being too retro.

I am planning on using chintz in my new sunroom, so I guess that is a nod to the Grandma Chic look too.

I would not get induction for that purpose - a generator is to keep the necessities going in an emergency and an induction range draws too much power to be a good trade-off IMO. Keep your refrigerator going, a light or two at night so you are not in the dark, AC/heat cycling to maintain minimum comfort and safety. Generators are great for those purposes but are not meant to keep all electricity in your life operating at the norm.

Even though ignitions are electric, on my gas ranges you can still also light them with a match.

I have to admit that this is the main reason why we are keeping our gas range. The oven doesn't work if there's no electricity, but the burners are fine. We don't normally have too many power outages but during a 3-day outage, we were able to stay here. We have rechargeable Coleman lanterns for some light. Small chargers for our phones, and we make sure to keep these charged up during hurricane season. We have gas logs and a gas hot water heater. With those, and the burners so that we could cook, we were fine. We did empty the freezer--our neighbor kids were happy to have ice cream for breakfast. We shared or cooked all the frozen vegetables, and we keep a lot of ice packs in our freezer so that we can use the refrigerator as a big cooler when there's no power. We don't keep a lot in the freezer anyway, for this same reason. I know all the arguments and reasons why induction is better, but I just don't want to have to rely on that electric line for everything in the house.

When did the Like and Save turn dark and no longer go green when you personally Like?

DLM, it's weird. On my iOS devices it's the usual green, terrible typing, autocorrect, but that's a different story. Now I'm on my laptop, latest MacOS 14.4.1 and that line remains bold black, i.e., you can't tell if you've already Liked a post.

ETA: It's the latest Chrome browser update. If I switch to Safari, Like/Save, green when you Like behave as before. Stop it, Chrome!

Mark,

If you're open to an addition to a pretty comprehensive list, I suggest "marriage counseling."

@SEA SEA That bathroom is a*bit* moody but not OTT. The only thing I might not like is the baseboard tile which in the pic just looks dirty to me - in person it might be fine.

@HU-163897337 I've seen pics of that type of curtain as well - if I find one I'll post it.

I only have curtains in one room. That's the second bath with white cafe curtains. Bought them from Country Curtains which merged with Vermont Country Store a few years ago.
