Did you use weed killer nearby? my phlox have been VERY sensitive to what i can only assume is the weedbgon i have used near them (painted on, not sprayed) to attempt to keep thistle and bindweed under control. they get these leaves that are sort if rolled. your photo looks similar. mine recovered after a season or so. obviously not certain, but just a thought.

I shoveled it and a large Husker penstemon in the same area. I hope that’s the end of aster yellows in my garden. I got as much soil as I could and put all in a black trash bag. Then sterilized my shovel in bleach and water.

If it’s not aster yellows, then I got some peace of mind anyway. Thanks for all the responses.

Maryl (Okla. Zone 7a)

Mantis: Those "New" maps are a royal pain. Say what they will about our zone being warmer in winter now and moving us up to 7b, in reality the last 4 years have seen colder winters here with warm spring weather showing up later (our summers remain just as hot though). When plant vendors use this new government map to ship plants in the spring it puts those plants at risk. I've lost more then a few to this new map problem. I've heard others in these transitional zones complain about the same problem as well. The reality is that this is Oklahoma, so the climate will shift this way and that regardless of what some government agency says it will do, but it was closer to the mark before they changed it...........Sorry to vent but I'm right in the middle of ordering plants, so this sore spot is foremost in my mind as more and more vendors go "humanless" and rely strictly on computer input and data.........Maryl

I love popcorn. it blooms almost non stop and stays really small. mine isnt thornless, but doesnt have very many. it also has fairly good hardiness here and has quite a bit of surviving cane for me. Heres mine now. Tried to get pic where you can see the thorns.

Diane, Morden Sunrise is very popular here. We have one across the street from us. Unfortunately it is really popular with the Japanese Beetles so I dare not add it to my bed.

Oh, that's too bad. Luckily the JBs have not made it out here to the desert hills outside of Boise. Diane
