My long post of late last night was plainly visible to me and still remains on the seasonal thread, but no one else can see it, and it wasn't noted on the main listing. This immediately happened, as I said, very late, and no one flagged it because they couldn't even see my post. This happens on a semi-regular basis to me. My post just sits there forever on the thread, and only I can see it. Total pain. My savvy son in law says Houzz has server problems. Diane

I have posted few long posts lately. Then when I come back later, they are gone. Another problem Ive had just recently (like the last 2 weeks) is, I post a comment and it says error! Like *Every *Single* Time* and it wont post. I, of course, then lose everything I just typed which pi$$3$ me off so I just dont post at all for a few days lol.

Here’s some current overall bush action on two of mine, Melissa and Artist. Small blooms but lots of them and both nice shapely shrubs..

Marie Pavie, my best wafter. I have two pots of her either side of my front door:

Cramoisi Superieur, no fragrance to speak of but a good pop of colour in the border:

DD is shrubby and has blooms at multiple levels, primarily on the top half.

I don't see anything suspicious here. As far as I know, there's nothing wrong with 3 buds on one stem, especially on a floribunda; but I am not exactly the most "experty" expert out there, per my name. Hopefully others will chime in.

It is fine. Many rose species bloom in clusters. Look up the specific species of rose you have and see if it is normal for that species to bloom in clusters.

Oh, good Lord, I am so sorry.

I am dealing with the same situation now on a Sweet Drift which I took out. The verdict was not quite as definite as yours, and if yes, it was an earlier stage - but it is maddening how this thing is spreading everywhere.

I used to think it was rare ("it would never happen to me" -type thinking) and it is frustrating that I can't do a single thing to prevent in addition to what I have already been doing.

I also cannot uproot all of my other roses just bc I suspect something on one.

Terrible thing - somebody please find the cure for THIS rose cancer.

Prairiemom, both … it’s still just too risky now in my area. I don’t currently have any roses.

If you want to have a few roses (5 or 6?) you could buy a screened in cage that zips/unzips and put some in there. The mites couldn't get through the mesh...I don't think anyway.

Artist, for the roses in the ground i use nutricote 18 6 8 (though i think i under fertilize them this year), along with weekly fish spray, did have a little chicken manure around each bush too, our soil here is mostly clay so i amend them with cow manure compost

Artist, that is correct, foliar spray, not only it feeds the roses, it discourages the deer from munching on them. the guy who sprays the disease also sprays the fish, it's a good thing he lives in the same house lol

Beautiful garden, Hoang. You do a great job with the videos you post, too. Over The Edge caught my eye - I haven’t heard much on it either. How do you like it?

Artist,

Patriot Dream is not a ground cover. It is classed as a shrub, but the blooms are the same size as most Week's Roses floribundas. It is quite round, and blooms on all sides. The plant size is roughly the same as Sunsprite, but a bit more round.

If I want a rose to be a particular tone I dial it up too, Artist, because as you say, they do white out in the sun. Anything pale pink or lemon turns white in my summer heat, even in shade. HC does perform well for me though and although it’s never as vibrant as in cooler climes, holds onto its colour pretty well compared to some. It is a thorny little beast tho, so maybe not ideal so close to the sidewalk anyway.

Hard to say which cliff to jump off, bubblegum pink or sunset tones - but there is merit in sticking with your original easy does it instincts since it clearly does really well for you..

Artist - I saw your thread then went back out to double check my rose, there is no powdery mildew on this rose, now on blossomtime thats another story.

Moses - It does look like a new basal cane, the buds kinda looked like a witches broom so thats what alerted me to the dreaded possible RRD. I'll keep an eye on it.

Thank you both.

Congratulations!

I would liquid feed with Miracle Gro at 1 tsp. per gallon of water. That's about 1/3 strength. Do this again in two weeks. Then 1/2 Tbl. per gallon of water two weeks after the last 1 tsp. ...feeding. Repeat in two weeks. Finally, 1 Tbl. per gallon of water two weeks after the lastlas 1/2 Tbl. per gallon of water, and 1 Tbl./gal. water thereafter, fed every two weeks.

That's 3 months of gradually increasing feedings...feedings always two weeks apart. Don't go too fast increasing feeding. You don't want rampant growth, just nice steady growth.

I might prune Savannah down to the green and wait. If it all turns black, you really tried. Something can be happening below ground.

Artist, maybe wait until LOS blooms, and then do a quarter-strength soluble fertilizer? One of the reasons we don't want to fertilize newly rooted cuttings or newly planted bare roots (of course in addition to not burning their new delicate roots) is that new young roots will continue to grow in search of food. I think it's better to keep them growing in search of food for awhile :-D

For me, the resistance to BS is very important and all of these below were vetted for that first. However, even with disease resistant varieties, I still spray once or twice in the spring and it helps quite a bit for the rest of the season. Otherwise, they defoliate too much. Later I stop spraying.

Easy Does It (workhorse)

Olivia Rose Austin (delicate and elegant)

Plum Perfect (sturdy and great color but not crazt about the overgrown bush with blooms only at the top)

Beverly (almost 30 buds now on a still small bush)

Savannah (elegant)

Lady of Shallot (beautiful, warm color)

Ring of Fire (amazing, classic-looking bloom)

Climbing Pinkie (the spring show is so romantic)

In my garden, bloom crispness and full bush are the big thing. Now I spray a fungicide every two weeks to keep the foliage on my bush's looking clean and healthy. Here are my top roses.

Munstead Wood---beautiful blooms, repeats quickly, smells great.

Molineux---Beautiful yellow blooms, tons of blooms, foliage from top to bottom.

Scepter d' Isle---Soft pink blooms in clusters, big healthy bush.

Hannah Gordan---Plenty of blooms in clusters and singles, foliage from the top to the bottom.

Lady of the Dawn---Huge bush, soft pink blooms, bee friendly.

Marchesa Boccella---beautiful pink blooms filled with petals, smells great, thick shrub like bush.

Louise Estes---Great pink blend blooms with a good scent, nice upright bush with beautiful foliage.

Ring of Fire---Lots of beautiful orange blooms with great foliage.

Hot princess---Fantastic deep pink blooms on an upright bush with shiny deep green foliage from top to bottom.

All great suggestions! I’ve been eyeing Olivia and scepter de isle. I did pick up Savannah as an own root at Lowes recently. I’m most worried about bloom fry as I do spray. I mostly stick to soft colors for an English style garden palette. Munstead wood looks divine. I love the form.

Judi, too early to tell but so far it has been continuous. I'm sure it will slow down once the heat comes.

Artist

My Olivia was planted in the ground more than a year ago , it has grown nicely into a 3x3 shrub but unfortnately does not bloom at all .David Austin's Boscobel is near it and was planted at the same time , and blooms constantly . Some European roses require cooler temps to bloom . My climate in central FL is almost tropical with high heat & humidty .

That's either RRD or herbicide damage. Most likely RRD.

IMO, this is like RRD and not herbicide damage and would carefully remove and bag the affected roses. I’m sorry, Artist - I dealt with this from time to time in my last garden and is frustrating.

Me too. Munstead Wood 2 quarts...even though I already have one which is a very slow starter apparently. But I realized Austins are best in 2, for mass appeal. :)

I am so tempted by PAK too...I just hope it's not too disease prone for humid areas.

Report on both! :)
