It was a fantastic forum of like minded people. It helped me do a kitchen remodel and new house build. Would love to read what everyone is up to these days.

This is Kompy. I was around 30 when I joined Gardenweb way back when!! I turn 60 in June. Wow how time flies! Since then I got divorced, remarried, sent a kid off to college, had same kid decide to skip on college and start his career...but through it all have stayed a happy go lucky person...and I still love my job as a kitchen designer, going on 40 yrs! Me and new hubby are friends with old hubby. Stopped by his house yesterday with my son after the amazing OHIO Eclipse! I still come on Houzz everyday while I eat my lunch at my desk...which is what I did 30 years ago on GW! I've learned so much from all the pros here as well as the homeowners! I miss GW still...it seemed more close-knit and kind.

I was LENVT. I didn't post too much, but I joined in 2001 just as we bought our first house and needed a washing machine... and then a dishwasher, and finally a range. There was a person here, TJ something or other, who knew appliances like the back of his hand. I mean WOW. I knew from this forum that I wanted a Bosch dishwasher, convinced my neighbor to get one as well. He still has his, 22 years later. I bought a Kenmore Elite dishwasher. Because of TJ, I knew it was a rebadged Bosch! Quiet as the dickens, cleaned like a charm, Just replaced it a few months ago. It most likely could have been repaired, but I am finally renovating our kitchen after 23 years in this house. It is a full on 1980's dream kitchen with all the attendant horror. Hey, after 23 years, it's MY fault!

I knew so much about appliances, and the necessary CFM per BTU's for my range hood that I got offered appliance sales jobs --twice!

I always come here first step in any major decision for the house. I remember lusting after the kitchen reno threads like mad back in the day. Following them through to the reveals... Good times as I was recovering from a significant illness at the time. It is still a good place, but a bit less like a club, I guess.

Good ol' TJ, wherever you are friend, I thank you.

RE Buzzing, my Miele Induction from 2010 had a low hum and buzzed a bit if there were multiple pans on the stove. The new Thermador Freedom has a very soft hum (I have to get my ear right to the cooktop to hear it, not something I usually do) and I have heard no buzzing at all with up to 5 pans on it. Mix of Demeyere, Staub, LeCreuset, and Tramontina cookware. Also, the glass does seem a bit tougher on the Thermador than it was on the Miele. 13 years of hard use on the Miele left it in very good, though not pristine shape. In about 4-ish months of use on the Thermador, it's still pristine and really seems to take hard use with ease. I don't baby my cooktop--but I do take care not to slide pans across salt or anything like that. I'm sure that's what scratched the Miele. I'm not sure it would bother the Thermador, but I'm not willing to find out on purpose. :-)

I have two and agree that they should be placed EITHER on either side of the main sink (my set-up) or do like @Jan Moyer suggests. You will use both of them more often than you think, even if it's just 2 people in the house.

We have 2 DWs flanking the clean-up sink for our family of 4 and we love, love, love it. It really makes life easier. There are so many different scenarios where I think about how happy I am to have that second empty DW, ready to be loaded. We have our trash on the island, next to the prep sink. I planned to put a small trash under the clean-up sink for scraping into, but my husband persuaded me to wait and we have found the island trash is fine. We are the type to empty a DW as soon as it is done, so there is always an empty DW waiting for that item that is too large for the half-full DW and there is no more running a half-full DW so you can empty it in anticipation of a large amount of dirty dishes. I now put our pots and pans in the DW (better for the environment) instead of handwashing them to save room in the DW. We never have dirty dishes in the sink awaiting the end of the DW cycle. If the middle and lower racks fill at different rates, no big deal — overflow goes into the empty one. As soon as a DW cycle is started, I move the black leather tassel that means “load this one” to the other DW. Also, I doubt anyone with two DWs has ever thought of it as a flex or status symbol. I think it often cheaper than 24” of cabinetry.
