How adorable! Love your one-of-a-kind lamp!
Oh, I hear you about the backed up projects Sue! You should see what my craft room looks like!
I have the same problem with FedEx. They leave every Chewy box in front of my garage door. So aggravating.
I have a Fat Daddio's springform pan. Just used it the other day to make Ina's Blueberry Ricotta Breakfast cake.
dees, we do keep a dolly outside, accessible and in plain sight for them if they want it. Most delivery drivers have their own anyway. Only one has used it. A lady, named Kelly, who drove for fedex. Me and SO were home that day and rushed out to help her. It was a large and heavy order of candle and soap supplies. She told us that one of the tires on her dolly was flat, rendering it useless, and SO used his air compressor to fill up the tire, and told her she was free to use it as needed if she were to make other deliveries to us. The Amazon people had their own when delivering the fridge.
people have a reasonable right to know
why?
Well there are two ways of handling this. One is to be withdrawn and beg for privacy...the other is to become an ambassador for people who suffer from the same disease, be forthcoming about it, and set an example of courage for those who may suffer the same.
I think about Katie Couric who lost her husband to colon cancer and became a voice for testing to save lives. She also was very open about her own breast cancer as well.
Where's the empathy? There's plenty of time for her to become "an ambassador". She was diagnosed 2 months ago and is undergoing treatment. She has a young family. Your need to know isn't a factor as much as you'd like it to be.
i've just never understood the "need to know" when it comes to someone i don't know being diagnosed with cancer or any other terrible disease, never will know them, they aren't family.
for the love of God, give the woman and her family the privacy she needs and deserves to deal with the unthinkable. if she decides to become an ambassador, more power to her but she owes the rest of us NOTHING.
Faftris, they have filed Chapter 11, not 13, and the Joann stores will continue operating as usual. Unless they are unsuccessful in their reorganization, their operations will continue as they always have and you will continue to receive those flyers in the mail.
A major competitor to JoAnns, Michael’s (Arts and Crafts), has recently started an alternative to Etsy. MakerPlace - a place for artists and crafters to sell their creations.
https://www.michaels.com/makerplace
Goodness - I teach arts & crafts and have a degree in Fine Art. I also sew, and the only difference between art and craft I know is crafts are things made for use, while arts are for appreciation and entertainment - that's about it. Sewing is most decidedly a craft.
I think the 'junk' being disdained here is mainly 'kits'. Both Michael's and Joann sell basic supplies too, not just kits.
There is a ton of merchandising of craft stuff, for sure - thinking of scrapbooking, for instance, but I find a lot of the materials sold for scrapbooking to be useful for other crafts - paper punches, stamps, paper - types of adhesives too. I'm glad they have such things.
And how would you define the words 'craftsman', 'craftsmanship'? The word 'craft' encompasses a really broad spectrum of things, so I think it's a mistake to define it so narrowly.
Tina and Bluebell, I’m so happy to hear you still have your nurseries. I miss mine so much!
The last one of ours to close had been for sale for years and I was hoping it would just change hands. Instead, commercial developers bought it … as I drove by a few months ago, they were razing the lovely stone structures, pond, huge Live Oaks, etc. It made me teary, I’d been going there for decades.
Love the idea of decoupaging a bulb, Bluebell. Please share a photo if you do!
"Just go buy a bag or two and you are all set!!! Heck even Chex bags their own now!!!! "
Not so much.........the premade bagged mixes taste very little like the homemade version and are very, very salty. They are really a very mediocre substitute to homemade Chex mix.
Oh bummer! I like those triple ginger snaps, too! I think the ones they sell at World Market in the tin - maybe only at Christmas - are similar in flavor. My sister used the WM ones for a dessert once and the flavor was quite alike.
I miss the chocolate meringues. I am not a huge chocolate lover, but really liked those cocoa meringues with the tiny bits of chocolate in them. The vanilla ones are almost tasteless.
Judi, those are the ones that are discontinued, or so the clerk at my store says. They were over the ice cream end of the freezer aisle, The other ones are in a box at the far end of that freezer aisle, thin crisp cookies in a box with your choice of ginger and meyer lemon flavors.
We buy the butter almond ones all the time. We just bought a box today, in fact. I don't think I knew of the ginger ones in a tub. I buy the cranberry ones with glazed topping in a tub.
To each their own. I make awesome fried chicken. DH puts ketchup on it. Many years ago, I felt it was an insult to my cooking. No longer. If he likes it, so be it.
I like spicy food and found a specific brand of Sichuan dried chiles that I'm simply mad about. I put them on about 80% of hot foods I eat. He teases me about it (he can't handle the heat) and said that I'd probably put it on ice cream. I took the challenge next time he served vanilla ice cream and guess what? I DID like it.
Trust me, even if you think you're "normal", there is at least one thing about you that irritates someone. Life is too short to waste my time caring about how someone garnishes their food.
Thanks, all!
Lascatx, I think I will keep this one potted. It brightens up the room. :)
Bluebell, for some reason your IG link just takes me to my home feed. It’s probably a glitch on my end; I’ll keep trying, Thank you for sharing it!
Found it! Thank you so much for sharing, love that idea! 😍
Took some screenshots:
Thanks for checking in—I was traveling and am now back on track! Update:
I purchased a colorful, beautifully embroidered Scalamandré fabric (pillows in progress) and also had pillows made with a calm blue, gray, and taupe Lee Jofa fabric. I put the Matouk pique coverlet on top to bottom, so it has a curved scallop up near the headboard. I may monogram the hemstitched part of the pillowcase, and/or get the pillowcases Mtnrd found.
Ordered cordless sconces after getting a crazy quote to install 2 outlet boxes in the hurricane-proof wall. Chiseling a hurricane wall can't be the best idea, and I have high hopes for the cordless which should arrive soon.
Thanks to @Jilly for the latest pic, reminding me about centering the sconces. I did that in the mockup below.
I love the blue grass cloth mirror in the mockup, but don't love that it doesn't reflect anything interesting, and there will be another mirror over the bachelor chest.
Toying with reproducing a watercolor of me and my small (at the time) daughters. But a bit too twee?
Apologies in advance if this posts three times, having trouble with GW... will try to post the links and photos separately.
ETA photos
Sure did! Yikes.
@sueb Hildy LOL
That may be even more awful than a sign in the kitchen that says EAT…
I am so very sorry for your loss. Thinking of you.
I have 2 books of poems by Merrit Malloy and I have always loved that one.
I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you can find comfort and peace in the memories of your husband.
I think it's awful people cannot give her privacy.
I also don't understand the reasons given. Yes, we edit photos but not in the way I understand occurrred. Apparently there is something off about Charlotte's left hand and the edge of her sweater? Who would edit that?
Omg, that poor woman! I literally would lose my mind at this much speculation about my health. Obviously she signed up for this and takes her public role very seriously, but gosh, I couldn’t stand it myself.
What are y’all thinking has happened to her? She died? She left her children and ran off with a lover? I mean…she had a surgery. I would say ”maybe” it could have been plastic and that might be why the long, out of camera recovery…but why would they specifically say abdominal surgery (a lie, obviously, there is no tummy to tuck, lol.) Too young for a full face lift. I have a friend who is a photographer and she tinkers with many aspects of photos when editing, never actual faces, but if changing an angle slightly makes the composition better she will do little things like that. I think its weird how people seem to want scandal and conspiracy. 🤣
Very pretty. It's a perfect cottage kitchen!
Beautiful! Enjoy your new kitchen!
I can't believe the change! It looks fabulous and so much more open and airy! I love the cabinets, gold hardware, backsplash and that beautiful island top! You couldn't have done better!
DLM, I saw that on Insta yesterday. So many hilarious comments!

Trying again.
@Allison0704 I did see that! She's a brave woman. I watched her bloopers too and snorted!
It's not a collection of her books (if you would have looked at the site) but a collection of her favorite books for a new baby (and probably for a few years as a toddler).
" Nothing thus far says her story should have been glorified with a movie..... "
Huh?
Here is a small sample of WONDERFUL books and movies that come to mind immediately that are based on murder or other serious crimes committed by important characters:
The Godfather
In Cold Blood
Chinatown
Killers of the Flower Moon
Silence of the Lambs
Psycho
Let's not forget the work of the English writer of filthy trash whose stories often have murders, like:
Macbeth
Othello
Julius Caesar
Hamlet
King Lear
and many others.
Edit to add:
Whether one agrees or not (I don't particularly), there have been many people over the last 70+ years who sincerely believed that individuals from military, political, and scientific circles who contributed to the development of the atomic bomb that killed several hundred thousand civilians were guilty of murder. So to have a complete list, the movie Oppenheimer should also be on the list of filth. A movie many speculate will win Best Picture.
I'm really sorry. :( I definitely feel like you can wait too long, as you found. I have five cats and have said goodbye to many more than that over the years; a couple of them I waited too long. My gauge is how well they're eating and if they're still enjoying their food, do they still enjoy any of their favorite activities, how much weight have they lost, are they in pain, can they still get to the litter box, are they stressed by medication being administered or anything else, like regular vet visits or if I have to be gone a lot, etc. All of that factors into my decision.
I'm posting this link and hope it doesn't poof. I randomly ran across the article and comments in the late afternoon after a truly bad day missing my horses. I believe, and it sounds so weird, that my mare was comforting me and reminding me that though one dimension of her being is gone, not all has disappeared, and our love abides. Hope someone else enjoys it.
I don't think most people have children thinking they aren't going to be able to provide for them. Not all children are planned. Not all pregnancies are a result of a loving relationship with the father. Not all fathers support their children. Not all women have access to birth control or health care. Blaming poor people for being poor is what is gross.
