What about a dark blue or navy. It looks like there is blue in the slate.
That slate color still exists. You could just but up large scale tiles of it and put a wet look sealer on it.
I want to add a little warning about natural slate. You probably won't be able to get the same quality natural slate as the original floors off the rack at Home Depot. What's available at HD is likely to be a lesser-quality slate from China. DH put a natural slate floor from HD in our laundry room and he said never again. It was fragile and flaky.
News briefing going on now says 2 people rescued, one of those taken to the hospital and searching for 6 people. All 8 are believed to be part of a construction crew working on the bridge. No cars were believed to be on the bridge at near 1:30 this morning. They also confirmed that the ship that struck the bridge issued a mayday call prior to striking the bridge overnight. Looking at the ship == all those rectangles stacked on the deck are containers put on rail cars or 18 wheelers -- can only imagine the size and weight of that thing!
Adding -- they have video of the collapse. Incredible, but also reassuring that they can view that and see whether cars were on the bridge. I haven't heard whether thay had time to stop traffic between the mayday call and the collapse, but one speaker said the mayday said they saved lives. Sounds like they did stop traffic -- wonder if they did not have time to get the construction crew off the bridge or if that was in process.
There is a slow-mo video in this link showing the freighter going dark just before hitting the bridge. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2024/03/26/photos-video-baltimore-bridge-francis-scott-key/73102504007/
I hope everyone is found safe. What a trajedy for all.
What a catastrophe. I sure hope everyone is found safe.
This link has a lot of photos plus a slow motion of the freighter hitting the bridge. The freighter looks like it went dark just before hitting the bridge.
I heard that the Maersk Dali struck the pylon with “2 Million pounds of force — 100,000 tons” and its speed was 9 mph.
palisades, I think those concrete and steel reinforcemet ”islands” would not have helped protect the Key Bridge. The cargo ship was massive and with an enormous amount of momentum.
colleen, I saw a video of the Tasman Bridge disaster.

Will we find out that this tragedy could have been prevented? Probably.
Much of US infrastructure is obsolete. How big a tax increase will we tolerate to make the necessary repairs and provide ongoing upkeep?
She is a beautiful girl and I hope she'll become comfortable
She’s a beauty, Faron I’m sitting on the floor nextvto my beautiful 12-year-old dog Addie who was diagnosed last week with congestive heart failure. She had her belly drained yesterday and a cardio consult today. They also found a small tumor on her heart which after more ultrasounds, no one is overly worried about . You’d never know something was going on except for the fluid in her tummy— same old goofy girl She started heart meds today and everyone is cautiously optimistic for more decent days ahead.
What a beautiful story and I love the ruffles along the hemline of the dress to mimic the ones on the top.
Stephanotis - My mom who married my dad in 1951 had them in her bouquet as well. When I got married in 1983 I brought a picture of my moms bridal bouquet to the florist and asked her to duplicate it for me. She commented on the fact that stephanotis were seldom used anymore and did I want to update the look. But no, I didn't. When my mom saw me on my wedding day and noticed the bouquet she started to cry. It was a surprise for her and she was thrilled.
I'm loving your photos and what a sweet one this is. How wonderful to be able to wear something from generations back. Thank you for sharing your stories and photos.
My son and his wife are flying from the west coast to the east coast to see it. They're going to Portugal a couple of days later for vacation so thought they would leave a few days earlier to see it.
thanks veggie. That helps!
Roxol, it isn't that I am not interested in the eclipse. I will watch what I can from where I live. It is just at my age (77) and all the animals I take care of, even a day trip is not something I look forward to. It is a hassle and I stay home now as much as possible. But I have plenty to do, and things I enjoy, so I am happy to do it.
This is being reported by a number of news media. I hope all is well for her. But this is one of those times where I hope the media is wrong.
The king and QE opted to pay personal income tax but does not own the Crown Estate, The monarchy does. The monarchy is tax exempt so no taxes are paid on those or other holdings at all. The profits are far less than the yearly taxes would be. the taxes on the Crown estate would by in the billions not millions. William and kate are tax exempt and although william will likely follow in his dad’s foot steps they have never paid any taxes on income nor property btw.
There was an interesting series ran last year in the guardian. It was long but very well researched. It is worth reading. The monarchy lacks transparency in more than its health but also in its wealth and practices. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/series/cost-of-the-crown
Mea culpa from The View hosts.
I saw an ad the other day for a show in which she is starring. I was surprised because I actually thought she was dead. Turns out she is alive and well and still working.
I liked her show but hated the theme song, and so I had to turn it off when that started.
A good friend of mine had his photo taken with her at an AIDS benefit in the 1990s.
My favorite part of her show was As The Stomach Turns, with Harvey Korman as Mother Marcus, Canoga Falls' resident Yenta.
She was on Kelly & Mark this morning. Soon to be 91.
100 responses was GardenWeb's original limit, and people stick to that on the What's for dinner thread, so I say, keep going. Plus, it'll all be in one place.
At least I'm not planning to put the books backwards on the shelves :)
If I send a rectal thermometer, do you think they'll get the message???
The day before the shooting the school counsellor had asked the parents to remove their son from the school. They refused. It appears the school tried.
As far as international folk commenting on this forum, the usa itself is guilty of international interference. Sheesh, just last week didn't’ Schumer call for new elections? How about America’s attempts to overthrow communist regimes etc…America will protect resources it deems necessary and needed for its own needs; regardless where the resources exist in the World! Now talk about interference!
What happens in America impacts the entire world! Personally, I value America, it IS and always has been one of the greatest countries in the world, let’s keep it this way!
The comments above are crossing the line of acceptable discourse on this site, and may well lead to this thread going away.
And there is quite a bit documented about the circumstances surroundings that miserable kid's life.
Fifty-seven years! Wow. You and your DH are so blessed. He sounds like a really fine and decent person. ((((hugs))))
I have 2 books of poems by Merrit Malloy and I have always loved that one.
I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you can find comfort and peace in the memories of your husband.
I have not taken these types of drugs, but I know 3 people who have/are. The first one, who works in healthcare, had similar side effects as Spanish. She's also suspicious of this trend, and so stopped altogether. She did lose weight and has since gained it back, but I would not categorize her as obese.
The second was obese, had a host of health issues, horrible eating patterns, a stressful job, and overall was miserable. With the drug, she lost enough weight to be able to exercise again, improved her eating habits, and sought therapy for her life stressors. She gradually went off the medication and has been maintaining the weight loss.
The third was overweight, not terribly, but she's very short and has some knee and ankle issues, so her extra weight inhibited her movement. She's still on the medication, consulting with a dietician, and has taken up exercises that she wasn't able to in the past.
I don't know anything about the drugs, but with the 2 mentioned above, the drugs were part of a toolbox toward overall health improvement. In both cases, it allowed them to feel good enough to exercise again and develop more positive lifestyle changes. If this is what these drugs can accomplish, they're hopeful. From a quality of life issue, I love seeing women enjoying better health. From a purely financial perspective, it seems the upfront costs might deter long-term costs associated with chronic disease. As a healthcare consumer, I'm all for that.
I'd like to give Gscience a shout-out. She regularly contributes to our Healthy Lifestyle threads here. Until *this* thread, I had forgotten she was on Z, because her posts focus on the changes and efforts she makes in terms of her exercise, eating habits, and overall positive attitude. She's an inspiration.
